I would like to rate 5 stars as all the comedians in the movie has done great justice to the role. It's overall a funny movie and it's so humorous to see some serious scenes turned into hilarious situation... We totally enjoyed and will watch it time and again to have a great laughter��

Ghosty Movie Review: An irreverent, tasteless horror comedy

Early in the film, we are shown the happenings of an old-fashioned asylum. We see patients being less of people and more of caricatures locked in a prison-like setup. If the setting is archaic, the jokes are even older. Veteran comedians and actors fleet in and out of the setup saying the most insensitive dialogues in the name of humour. And knowing the entire film revolved around this asylum only made things worse. 

Director: Kalyaan Cast: Kajal Aggarwal, Urvashi, KS Ravikumar, Sathyan, Yogi Babu, Jegan, Redin Kingsley Star 1.5 Let me try to make sense of this convoluted mess of a screenplay. Let me try... Police officer Arthi (Kajal Aggarwal) is facing suspension because she behaves weirdly. She is disturbed by aspiring filmmakers Yogi Babu, Jegan and Redin Kingsley. Let's leave this angle for now. Then, we have a random flashback where Arthi and her fellow officers — played by Sathyan and Urvashi — are out to arrest Das (KS Ravikumar), who has escaped from prison. We learn that Arthi's father was the one who put Das behind bars. There are two oaths taken that day. One, Arthi asserts that she will arrest him again, and two, Das will kill her dad's colleagues. Once again, let's leave this angle for now. Arthi is also disturbed by an eerie doll, which randomly finds its way into her house. Now, let's leave this angle too, and yeah, there's Jai in a cameo, playing the nalla aathma , who invariably becomes the saviour. Of course, a police officer needs a male saviour, even if it is from the other world. 

The film is billed as a horror comedy, and it uses age-old tropes like randomly flickering lights, randomly found dead bodies, randomly grotesque dolls, randomly loud background score (Sam CS) and of course... randomly shutting doors to establish the horror part. For the comedy part, watching sluggish set pieces with unflattering payoffs, and Kajal, painted with a clown face, trying to make us laugh out loud, only elicits a faint sigh that is a reflection of our exasperation. But, points to the makers for constantly exhausting the audience with both its horror and comedy. 

The ensemble cast, which boasts of talents like the late Mayilsamy, KS Ravikumar, Urvashi, Madhan Bob, and Devadharshini among others is criminally underutilised. The attempts to make us laugh fail miserably. For instance, in a scene when a nighty-clad Aadhi (Urvashi) huffs and puffs in to arrest an escaping Das, he asks her, "Ena Ungala Rape Pana porangala?" And in an exorcism scene when Aadhi's plan does not work well, Arthi says, "Order 2 litres of acid to pour on your face." It is 2023. It was not funny in 1993, 2003, and 2013 either. I repeat, these tasteless and callous gags are unfunny. They always were. 

Films like Ghosty remind us that it is high time we stop stigmatising mental hospitals and their patients. The irreverent stereotyping of people with mental health problems needs to be called out, especially with society trying to normalise such conversations. More importantly, it is just lazy writing to pluck these low-hanging fruits and still just make shoddy jokes around such sensitive topics. Responsible filmmaking, adequate research and situational awareness is the need of the hour. The film is just a glossy 2-hour product of incoherent and lethargic writing.  Apart from Kajal's charming screen presence, there is very little that goes her way in Ghosty . In a passing moment, Yogi Babu's character comments about their potential heroine not having a proper lipsync. And watching Ghosty , this joke just hits too close to home. Walking out of Ghosty , which decided to portray most of its characters as fools, I wondered if the makers assumed its audience to be one too.

Storytellers of Tamil cinema need to evaluate their clinginess to the horror comedy genre which is getting insufferable with every flick relentlessly being made on the genre. The movie is about a cop who takes it upon herself to hunt down a fugitive gangster who was incarcerated by her father a couple of decades ago. Actress Kajal Aggarwal who was last seen in the romantic comedy drama Hey! Sinamika is back on screens with her horror comedy film Ghosty. Actor Yogi Babu has played a vital part in the flick. Director Kalyaan has penned and helmed the drama. So, how has the horror comedy film Ghosty come out? Will it help actress Kajal Aggarwal to establish a bankable lead heroine image, and revitalize her career in Tamil cinema ? To know that let us get into the movie review.

The film follows the life of Aarthi (Kajal Aggarwal), a cop who is on the verge of suspension for her conduct. Then we have a flashback, in which we witness Aarthi along with her colleagues Aadhi (Urvashi) and Mayil (Sathyan) sets up on a journey to incarcerate Das (K S Ravikumar), a gangster who was imprisoned by her father but managed to escape from prison. Das on his part wants to exact revenge on the whole unit that was responsible for putting him in prison. Aarthi meets Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, and Jagan who claim themselves to be movie buff and wannabe filmmakers. They try to lure her into playing the lead of their upcoming film. 

In an unfortunate turn of events, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, and Jagan are exposed to a chemical from a research laboratory which upends their lives. Meanwhile, on her mission to catch Das, Aarthi accidently shoots an innocent person to death. She and her colleagues get terrified when they start to experience paranormal activities. They seek the aid of a shaman to put an end to eerie activities. Who did Aarthi kill, has the murdered person turned into a ghost, and if so, will they be able to escape its wrath, is what makes the rest of the flick.  

Ghosty is that kind of product when an amateur who has zero cooking skills toss in a range of ingredients, he could get his hands on, and tries to cook like a chef for fun. What to expect of a dish that comes out of such a cooking? There is a tad probability that you might get away safely eating the dish. But in the case of Ghosty there is not an iota of chance to get away safe. It is not the cliches or poor taste of comedy or the bad quality of the script in general that is worrisome about Ghosty, but the lack of effort that is exasperating to stomach. 

Literally, in every piece of the film there is convenient convenience. For instance, most of the one-liner gags used in the film seem to be shot with the flow without any thought as to whether it will work or not. Where not there any people or even assistant directors on the spot when they shot the film? Did they find the so-called quips in the movie to be funny? The screenplay not just wanders but cuts in and out from various points as director Kalyaan sees fit. At least his previous films Gulaebaghavali and Jackpot had few jokes here and there, and something as a script to ride on to get the audience on board. But Ghosty has neither, and is a complete work of lethargy. 

Actress Kajal Aggarwal has more than fifty titles to her name but still struggles to shoulder even a next to nothing role. Despite being a lead part, her role feels like a filler role and does not hold much room for her to perform. Veteran director K S Ravikumar has done a fine job discounting a few moments here and there. Actor Yogi Babu in a comedy role for the umpteenth time. But it is excruciating to watch him do stuff in the pretext of comedy. Actor Aadukalam Naren’s role has very little bearing on the proceedings, yet the actor does complete justice to it. Veteran actress Urvashi serves her purpose for being on board. Actor Redin Kingsley is adequate. Actors Suresh Chandra Menon, and Subbu Panchu are operational. Comedians Jagan, Tiger Thangadurai, Sathyan, Manobala, Motta Rajendran, Mayilsamy, Swaminathan, Devadarshini, and Livingston find it incredibly difficult to make jokes. Actors Jai, and Radhika Sarathkumar make their presence felt even in a cameo appearance. The rest of the cast has delivered an average performance. 

On the technical front, music director Sam C S’s tracks do not create an enjoyable experience. Even his background score does not add much value to the film. There is nothing special in cinematographer Jacob Rathinaraj’s frames. He has done a middling job in covering the drama. Editor Vijay Velukutty’s editing dexterity is not sufficient to clip off the shortcomings in the work of his colleague.

On the whole, actress Kajal Aggarwal’s Ghosty has nothing going its way which is only made worse by appalling performances from the cast.

ఎలా ఉందంటే: స్టైలిష్ యాక్ష‌న్ థ్రిల్ల‌ర్ చిత్ర‌మిది. క‌థ కంటే కూడా యాక్ష‌న్ ఘ‌ట్టాలు డిజైన్ చేసుకోవ‌డంపైనే ఎక్కువ‌గా దృష్టి పెట్టిన‌ట్టుంది  చిత్ర‌బృందం.  దాంతో  అక్క‌డ‌క్క‌డా కొన్ని స‌న్నివేశాలు మెప్పిస్తాయి త‌ప్ప‌, క‌థతో మాత్రం ఎక్క‌డా లీనం కాలేం. ఎంచుకున్న  నేప‌థ్యం ఎలాంటిదైనా కావొచ్చు, సినిమా ఎంత స్టైలిష్‌గానైనా సాగొచ్చు కానీ, క‌థతో ప్రేక్ష‌కుల్ని క‌నెక్ట్ చేయ‌డం అన్నింటి కంటే ముఖ్యం. ఇందులో ఆ అవ‌కాశం ఉన్నా దాన్ని వృథా చేశాడు ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు.  క‌థానాయ‌కుడి  బాల్యంలో జ‌రిగిన సంఘ‌ట‌న‌లు, త‌ను పెరిగిన విధానం మొద‌లుకొని.. సోద‌రి బంధాన్ని బ‌లంగా ఆవిష్క‌రించేందుకు వీలుంది.  కానీ, ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు తెర‌పై త‌న మార్క్ ‘పోరాట ప‌టిమ‌’ని ప్ర‌ద‌ర్శించడంపైనే ఎక్కువ‌గా దృష్టిపెట్టారు. దాంతో  ఎక్క‌డా భావోద్వేగాలు పండ‌లేదు.  (The Ghost Review)  స‌హ‌జీవ‌నం చేసి ఆ త‌ర్వాత ఐదేళ్ల‌పాటు దూర‌మైన నాయ‌కానాయిక‌ల జంట చుట్టూ కూడా భావోద్వేగాలకి చోటుంది. కానీ, ఆ విష‌యాన్ని కూడా పైపైనే తేల్చేశారు.  దుబాయ్‌లో  రెండు ఆప‌రేష‌న్ల‌తో క‌థ మొద‌ల‌వుతుంది. పోరాటాలు, ఆ త‌ర్వాత ఓ పాట  ఇలా ఓ టెంప్లేట్ త‌ర‌హాలోనే ఆరంభ స‌న్నివేశాలు సాగుతాయి. క‌థ ఊటీకి చేరాకే సినిమా కాస్త ఆస‌క్తి మొదలవుతుంది. క‌థానాయ‌కుడి బాల్యంతోపాటు, అనుతో ఉన్న‌సంబంధం, ఫ్లాష్‌బ్యాక్ ఎపిసోడ్‌తో కాస్త ట్రాక్‌లో ప‌డిన‌ట్టే అనిపిస్తుంది. చెడు సావాసాల‌తో స‌త‌మ‌త‌మ‌వుతున్న అదితిని దారిలోకి తీసుకొచ్చే స‌న్నివేశాలు కూడా ప‌ర్వాలేద‌నిపిస్తాయి. (The Ghost Review)  కానీ, ఆ త‌ర్వాతే మ‌ళ్లీ సినిమా గాడి త‌ప్పుతుంది. అక్క‌డ‌క్క‌డా మ‌లుపులున్నా సుదీర్ఘంగా, స‌హ‌జ‌త్వం లేకుండా  సాగే పోరాట ఘ‌ట్టాలు  ఏ ర‌కంగానూ మెప్పించ‌వు.  మాఫియా సామ్రాజ్యాన్ని, కార్పొరేట్ కుటుంబాల్లోని సంఘ‌ట‌న‌ల్ని  స్టైలిష్‌గా, స‌హ‌జంగా చూపించే ప్ర‌య‌త్నం చేశారు ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు. ప‌తాక స‌న్నివేశాలు ప‌ర్వాలేద‌నిపిస్తాయి. పెద్ద గ‌న్‌తో హంగామా  ఈమ‌ధ్య కొన్ని సినిమాల్ని గుర్తు చేస్తుంది.

ఎవ‌రెలా చేశారంటే: నాగార్జున విక్ర‌మ్‌గా మెరిశాడు. ఆయ‌న స్టైలిష్‌గా క‌నిపించిన తీరు, పోరాట ఘ‌ట్టాలు  అభిమానుల్ని అల‌రిస్తాయి.   సోనాల్ చౌహాన్  అంద‌మైన ఇంట‌ర్‌పోల్ ఆఫీస‌ర్‌గా క‌నిపించింది. కథానాయ‌కుడితోపాటే క‌నిపిస్తూ  పోరాట ఘ‌ట్టాలతోనూ మెప్పించింది.  మ‌నీశ్ చౌద‌రి ప్ర‌తినాయ‌కుడిగా క‌నిపిస్తారు.  గుల్‌ప‌నాగ్‌, అనైఖా సురేంద్ర‌న్ త‌ల్లీకూతుళ్లుగా పాత్ర‌ల ప‌రిధి మేర‌కు న‌టించారు. పెద్దింట్లో పెరిగి, క్ర‌మ‌శిక్ష‌ణ కొర‌వ‌డిన అమ్మాయిగా  అనైఖా చేసిన స‌న్నివేశాలు సినిమాకి కీల‌కం.(The Ghost Review)   జ‌య‌ప్ర‌కాశ్‌, ర‌విప్ర‌కాశ్‌, శ్రీకాంత్ అయ్యంగార్ మిన‌హా మిగిలిన‌వాళ్లు దాదాపుగా తెలుగు తెర‌కు కొత్తే. సాంకేతికంగా సినిమా ఉన్న‌తంగా ఉంది. ముఖేష్ కెమెరా ప‌నిత‌నం, మార్క్ కె.రాబిన్ నేప‌థ్య సంగీతం సినిమాకి ప్ర‌ధాన‌బ‌లం. రొమాంటిక్ పాట, పార్టీ పాట చిత్ర‌ణ బాగుంది. నిర్మాణం ఉన్న‌తంగా ఉంది.  ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు ప్ర‌వీణ్ స‌త్తారు  ఎంచుకున్న నేప‌థ్యం బాగున్నా క‌థ‌, క‌థ‌నాల్ని మ‌లిచిన తీరు మెప్పించ‌దు.

Upcoming Indian Movie Releases in April 2024: Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Family Star & Others

Cinephiles nationwide eagerly anticipate the release of an exciting lineup of Indian movie releases that are set to hit the theatres in April this year. March 2024 brought some fantastic films to the silver screen, like Crew, Shaitaan, and Tillu Square . The month of April is also packed with diverse films ranging from adrenaline-pumping action to heartwarming romance and spine-chilling thrills.

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan

April brings with it the highly anticipated release of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan , directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. The adrenaline-fueled action film stars Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, delivering death-defying stunts and jaw-dropping action sequences.

The film also features Prithviraj Sukumaran as the antagonist, along with Alaya F and Manushi Chillar in pivotal roles. The story follows two elite soldiers on a mission to retrieve a stolen AI weapon. Bade Miyan Chote Miyan will hit the theatres on April 10.

Family Star

In the genres of romance and comedy, Family Star emerges as a delightful option for moviegoers. Starring Vijay Deverakonda and Mrunal Thakur, this Parasuram directorial will be an entertaining watch for Indian audiences.

Produced by Dil Raju, Family Star is set for a multilingual release on April 5, 2024. The film, with its captivating story and talented cast, promises to bring joy and laughter to audiences of all ages.

For fans of sports dramas, Maidaan will be an exciting watch as it explores Indian football’s rise to prominence. Directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma, the movie features Ajay Devgn, who portrays the role of a football coach, Syed Abdul Rahim.

It will show Rahim’s journey to put Indian football on the global map. Maidaan promises to inspire and uplift audiences when it hits theatres on April 10.

Amar Singh Chamkila

Diving into the realm of biographical drama, Amar Singh Chamkila sheds light on the life of the famed Punjabi singer. Helmed by Imtiaz Ali, the film stars Parineeti Chopra as Amarjot Kaur opposite Diljit Dosanjh in the titular role.

The Indian movie will explore the tumultuous journey of Chamkila, a popular singer of the ’80s. With its compelling narrative and stellar performances, Amar Singh Chamkila promises to be a poignant cinematic experience. The movie is set to stream on Netflix starting April 12.

Mr. and Mrs. Mahi

Marking a fusion of romance stories and sports drama, Mr. and Mrs. Mahi stars Janhvi Kapoor and RajKummar Rao in lead roles. Directed by Sharan Sharma, this film follows the journey of two hearts chasing one dream. For now, the teaser trailer for the film is available.

Scheduled for release on April 19, Mr. and Mrs. Mahi is set against the backdrop of the Indian sports industry.

Aranmanai 4

Horror-comedy fans are in for a treat with Aranmanai 4, the latest installment in the popular franchise starring Tamannaah Bhatia. Written and directed by Sundar C and produced by Khushbu Sundar, this film hopes to deliver thrills and laughter in equal measure.

Boasting a vast cast and chilling storyline, Aranmanai 4 intends to grip audiences upon its April release, keeping them on edge throughout.

Do Aur Do Pyaar

Offering a fresh take on modern-day relationships, Do Aur Do Pyaar presents a blend of romance and humor in a relatable storyline. Starring Vidya Balan, Ileana D’Cruz, Sendhil Ramamurthy, and Pratik Gandhi, this film explores the dynamics of two couples striving to reignite the passion in their relationships.

Do Aur Do Pyaar aims to strike a chord with audiences with its engaging narrative and endearing characters. It is set for a theatrical release on April 19.

Love Sex Aur Dhoka 2

Delving into the complexities of love in the digital age, Love Sex aur Dhokha 2 offers an intriguing exploration of relationships. Produced by Balaji Motion Pictures and helmed by Dibakar Banerjee, this drama film dives into the nuances of love in both the real and virtual worlds.

Scheduled for release on April 19, Love Sex aur Dhokha 2 is a sequel to the 2010 film. The upcoming film hopes to captivate audiences with its thought-provoking plot.

Actor Dev Patel makes his directorial debut with Monkey Man. Collaborating with renowned filmmaker Jordan Peele, the film explores the themes of vengeance and justice. Inspired by the Indian legend of Lord Hanuman, Monkey Man follows the journey of Kid, portrayed by Patel, as he seeks retribution against corrupt leaders.

The cast features Sobhita Dhulipala, Vipin Sharma, and Sharlto Copley. Monkey Man will hit the theatres on April 5, promising audiences a riveting cinematic experience.

Offering an exciting experience to Indian viewers, Ruslaan is an action-packed thriller that stars Aayush Sharma and Sushrii Mishraa. Directed by Karan L Butani, the film promises to keep audiences on the edge of their seats with its gripping storyline and intense performances.

Scheduled for release on April 26, Ruslaan aims to deliver high-octane action and suspense, making it a must-watch for viewers who enjoy thriller films.

JNU: Jahangir National University

Rounding off the lineup is JNU: Jahangir National University, a compelling drama set to release in theatres on April 5. Directed by Vinay Sharma, the film features an ensemble cast including Siddharth Bodke, Urvashi Rautela, and Ravi Kishan.

Presented by Mahakaal Movies and produced by Pratima Datta, JNU promises to captivate audiences with its engaging storyline and powerful performances.

Every one of the recent English language kaiju epics from Legendary Pictures has walked a different path, and “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” continues the tradition. This one is a direct sequel to 2021’s “ Godzilla vs. Kong ,” a simple movie inspired by the 1962 Toho Studios film “King Kong vs. Godzilla” that pitted the big lizard and the big ape against each other before teaming them against a robot foe. But rather than just repeat the template in "The New Empire," returning director Adam Wingard and his two co-writers offer a more fragmented and sometimes knowingly silly narrative, cross-cutting between lines of action in multiple locations that all lead to a huge showdown with a lot of creatures. 

Artistically it’s the most hit-and-miss entry in the current MonsterVerse, lacking the cohesive and distinctive vibe that powered all of the others, whether it was the 2014 “Godzilla” (basically “Close Encounters of the Godzilla Kind”), “ Kong: Skull Island ” (a bizarro riff on Vietnam movies), “ Godzilla: King of the Monsters ” (the first “team-up” entry, with lots of family melodrama stirred in), or Wingard’s original, gloriously goofy Godzilla-Kong flick, which owed quite a bit to 1960s exploration sci-fi like “ Journey to the Center of the Earth ” and 1980s Hong Kong and American action thriller/buddy films where the two main guys have to have a fistfight before they team up against a dangerous villain. 

Rebecca Hall ’s anthropologist Ilene Andrews is the main character this time, tending to her adoptive daughter Jia (Kaylie Hottle), and trying to figure out the connection between mysterious energy pulses detected on the Monarch Project’s monster-measuring tech and frenzied drawings that Jia has been scrawling on school desks and scratch paper. The answer—uncovered with help from muckraker/conspiracy podcaster Bernie Hayes ( Brian Tyree Henry ), another character from the last movie—is a return to the “Close Encounters with Godzilla” notion, positing that what they’re all experiencing is a combination distress signal and warning about an impending catastrophe. As intimated in trailers and other promotional material, there’s a secret civilization of giant Kong-like primates imprisoned in an unexplored portion of Hollow Earth, plotting their escape and a takeover of the surface world. Their leader is a scarred and sadistic despot who enslaves his own kind in a mining operation in a hellish volcanic cavern, a set that confirms the filmmakers have seen “ Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom ” more than once. 

As somebody who’s been a booster of this franchise from the beginning, it’s my sad duty to report that “Godzilla x Kong” is all over the place, barely working up a proper head of steam before cutting to something else. It makes "King of the Monsters" seem single-mindedly on-message. And it’s even more larded with redundant and wooden “make sure that everybody in the audience understands everything that’s happening at all times” exposition than the previous films. The showdowns are rousing and often brilliantly choreographed, particularly the finale, a multiple-monster main event with lots of other creatures bustling around in the margins. The live-action and motion capture performances are mostly marvelous, despite the bum dialogue and Wingard’s tendency to rush through sequences and whole relationships that might’ve been extraordinary had they been presented with patience and elegance. 

Dan Stevens is a pleasant though functionally absurd addition to the cast. He plays a swashbuckling, poetry-quoting ex-boyfriend of Ilene who's famous for being the first and so far only kaiju veterinarian, and is introduced extracting an abscessed tooth from Kong’s mouth by rappelling down into it from a hovercraft. (I don’t know if it was Shakespeare or Freud who said that a man with a toothache cannot be in love, but this movie offers a corollary: a giant ape with a toothache cannot defend the surface world.) Stevens has real chemistry with Henry, whose dialogue often sounds ad-libbed even if it wasn't. There are times when they seem like they’re at risk of cracking each other up and blowing a take. But the movie fails to take advantage of their connection and build it into something truly memorable. 

Kong’s relationship with a big-eyed little scamp of an ape that he meets while exploring Hollow Earth is a much bigger missed opportunity, although the bits we do see are performed by motion capture performers and the FX teams with imagination and care. The younger ape is essentially an abused child who is treacherous, selfish, and cowardly because he grew up in a cult. He suddenly now has a good parenting model courtesy of Kong, a hairy, burly single dude who lives a solitary existence, is an orphan himself, and had no parent role models (at least not that we know of), yet still treats the younger ape with patience and compassion even when it’s not earned, and makes a decent primate out of him. Adam Sandler has told a version of this tale many times. As presented here, it’s a mirror of what’s happening between Ilene and Jia—the latter reconnecting with her own roots and Ilene growing increasingly sad at the possibility that the girl might outgrow the need for her. Two adoptive parents, two different sets of challenges, but the same basic story: so much could’ve been done, but wasn't.

More for the minus column: The computer generated creature skins look more cartoony than in previous entries. And the screenplay introduces its genuinely terrifying and charismatic villain, Skar King, too late to give him and Kong a chance to build and flesh out their antagonism, as the preceding movie did with Kong and Godzilla's relationship. It’s fascinating to watch the slow revelation of Kong’s value system and realize how starkly it contrasts with the behavior of his evil doppelganger, a swaggering, preening rotter who seems to have been played via time warp by Gary Oldman in the '90s. Kong's triumph here should have felt cathartic: a victory of decency over despotic cruelty rather than narrative box-checking. 

The whole film needed more ape content, really. It's the stuff that really hits. The movie doesn't seem to recognize how powerful it is. A more smartly prioritized film might have focused on the vividly rendered and characterized apes and the humans that follow them around, perhaps to the exclusion of Godzilla, who is treated here mainly as a mayhem-producing force that the movie cuts to regularly because the film has “Godzilla” in the title. (He does have his moments though, like using a pro-wrestling suplex to slam an adversary and sleeping curled up in the Roman Colosseum like it's the world's largest dog bed.)

If you love the “what the hell, let’s try it” sensibility that the Legendary Pictures monster franchise has embraced thus far, you’ll still find plenty here to enjoy. But it shouldn’t have been necessary to go looking for it.

కన్నడ స్టార్ హీరో శివ రాజ్ కుమార్ హీరోగా విజయ దశమి సందర్భంగా అక్టోబర్ 19న కన్నడలో విడుదలైన సినిమా ‘ఘోస్ట్’. ఈ సినిమా తాజాగా తెలుగు ప్రేక్షకుల ముందుకు వచ్చింది. మరి ఈ సినిమా ప్రేక్షకులను ఏ స్థాయిలో ఆకట్టుకుందో చూద్దాం..

బిగ్ డాడీ అలియాస్ ఘోస్ట్ (శివ రాజ్ కుమార్) తన గ్యాంగ్ తో ఓ జైలును టార్గెట్ చేస్తాడు. అప్పటికే మాజీ సీబీఐ అధికారి వామన్ శ్రీనివాస్ (ప్రశాంత్ నారాయణన్) 10 ఏళ్ల పోరాటం చేసి ఆ జైలు ప్రయివేటీకరణ బిల్లుకు ప్రభుత్వం నుంచి అనుమతి సాధిస్తాడు. కరెక్ట్ గా భూమి పూజ చేయడానికి వెళ్లిన వామన్ కు పెద్ద షాక్ తగులుతుంది. అతన్ని కిడ్నాప్ చేసి, ఆ జైలులోని ఓ టవర్ ను తన ఆధీనంలోకి తీసుకుంటాడు బిగ్ డాడీ. దాంతో ఈ కేసును సాల్వ్ చేయడానికి ప్రభుత్వం చరణ్ రాజ్ (జయరామ్)ని రంగంలోకి దించుతుంది. ఇంతకీ ఈ బిగ్ డాడీ ఎవరు ?, అతని గతం ఏమిటి ?, అసలు అతను ఘోస్ట్ గా ఎందుకు మారాడు ?, అలాగే ఆ జైలునే ఎందుకు టార్గెట్ చేశాడు ?, అసలు వామన్ శ్రీనివాస్ కి – బిగ్ డాడీ కి మధ్య కనెక్షన్ ఏమిటి ? అనేది మిగిలిన కథ.

ప్లస్ పాయింట్స్ :

గ్యాంగ్ స్టర్ డ్రామాగా వచ్చిన ఈ ఘోస్ట్ లో లార్జర్ దేన్ లైఫ్ క్యారెక్టర్లో శివ రాజ్ కుమార్ చాలా వైల్డ్ గా కనిపించారు. పవర్ ఫుల్ పాత్ర‌లో తన టెర్రిఫిక్ పెర్ఫార్మెన్స్ తో ఆయన ఆకట్టుకున్నాడు. తన అగ్రెసివ్ బాడీ లాంగ్వేజ్, డామినేట్ చేసే తన క్యారెక్టరైజేషన్ అండ్ మాడ్యులేషన్ తో శివ రాజ్ కుమార్ తన పాత్రకు పర్ఫెక్ట్ గా న్యాయం చేశాడు. పైగా తన గత సినిమాల్లో కంటే ఈ సినిమాలో శివ రాజ్ కుమార్ కొత్త లుక్స్ తో ఆకట్టుకున్నాడు.

ఈ చిత్రానికి మరో ప్రధానాకర్షణ జయరామ్. ఆయన ఎప్పటిలాగే తన టైమింగ్ తో ఆకట్టుకున్నారు. ముఖ్యంగా కొన్ని కీలక సన్నివేశాల్లో జయరామ్ నటన చాలా బాగుంది. తండ్రి పాత్రలో కనిపించిన అనుపమ్ ఖేర్ తన నటనతో మెప్పించారు. అర్చనా జాయిస్, ప్రశాంత్ నారాయణన్, సత్యప్రకాష్, అభిజీత్ అలాగే మిగిలిన నటీనటులు కూడా తమ పాత్రల పరిధి మేరకు బాగానే నటించారు. కొన్ని కీలక సన్నివేశలను దర్శకుడు హై టెక్నికల్ వేల్యూస్‌ తో బాగా తెరకెక్కించాడు.

మైనస్ పాయింట్స్ :

ఈ సినిమాలో మెయిన్ ప్లాట్ వైవిధ్యమైనది కాకపోయినా.. కనీసం ఇంట్రెస్ట్ గా అయిన సాగాలి. ఈ ఘోస్ట్ కథలో అది కూడా మిస్ అయింది. దర్శకుడిగా ఎంజి శ్రీనివాస్ మంచి కథా నేపథ్యం రాసుకున్నప్పటికీ.. ఆసక్తికరమైన కథనంతో సినిమాని ఇంట్రెస్టింగ్ గా మలచలేకపోయారు. అక్కడక్కడ బోర్ గా సాగే సన్నివేశాలు కొంత ఇబ్బందిని కలిగిస్తాయి. పైగా ఈ చిత్రం చూస్తున్నంత సేపు రెగ్యులర్ యాక్షన్ డ్రామాలే గుర్తుకువస్తాయి.

అన్నిటికీ మించి సినిమాలో గుర్తు ఉండిపోయే ఒక్క ఎమోషన్ కూడా బలంగా ఎలివేట్ కాలేదు. నిజానికి క్లైమాక్స్ లో హీరో క్యారెక్టర్ ను ఎమోషనల్ గా డిజైన్ చేసినప్పటికీ.. అది పెద్దగా స్క్రీన్ మీద వర్కౌట్ కాలేదు. సినిమాలో ఎక్కువ భాగం యాక్షన్ అండ్ ఇన్విస్టిగేషన్ పాయింట్ ఆఫ్ వ్యూ లో సాగినా.. ఎక్కడా వాట్ నెక్స్ట్ అనే టెన్షన్ కూడా బలంగా లేకపోవడం ఈ ఘోస్ట్ సినిమాకి మరో బలహీనత.

ఈ ఘోస్ట్ సినిమా మెయిన్ గా మాస్ ప్రేక్షకులకు బాగా కనెక్ట్ అయ్యే జోనర్ అయినప్పటికీ.. దర్శకుడు ఎంజి శ్రీనివాస్ మాత్రం అక్కడక్కడ ఆకట్టుకునే యాక్షన్ ను తప్ప.. మాస్ ఆడియన్స్ ను ఆకట్టుకునే ఎలిమెంట్స్ ను సినిమాలో ఎస్టాబ్లిష్ చేయలేకపోయారు. పైగా ఈ చిత్రంలో చాలా తేలికపాటి ఇన్విస్టిగేషన్ తోనే ముగించడం అంతగా రుచించదు.

సాంకేతిక విభాగం :

దర్శకుడు ఎంజి శ్రీనివాస్ మంచి స్టోరీ ఐడియా తీసుకున్నారు గానీ, ఆ ఐడియాకు తగ్గట్టు అంతే కొత్తగా ట్రీట్మెంట్ ను మాత్రం రాసుకోలేదు. సినిమాలో సస్పెన్స్ తో ఇంట్రెస్ట్ పెంచే స్కోప్ ఉన్నప్పటికీ ప్లే సింపుల్ గా హ్యాండల్ చేశారు. మ్యూజిక్ విష‌యానికి వ‌స్తే…అర్జున్ జన్యా అందించిన సంగీతం చాలా బాగుంది. మహేంద్ర సింహా సినిమాటోగ్రఫర్ పనితనం బాగుంది. సినిమా మూడ్ కి అనుగుణంగా మహేంద్ర సింహా దృశ్యాలని బాగా తెరకెక్కించారు. ఎడిటింగ్ బాగున్నప్పటికీ కథకు అవసరం లేని సీన్స్ ను ట్రీమ్ చేసి ఉంటే బాగుండేది. ఇక సినిమాలోని సందేశ్ నాగరాజ్ ప్రొడక్షన్ వాల్యూస్ చాలా బాగున్నాయి.

‘ఘోస్ట్’ అంటూ వచ్చిన ఈ సినిమాలో కొన్ని యాక్షన్ సీక్వెన్సెస్ మరియు శివరాజ్ కుమార్ వైల్డ్ పెర్ఫార్మెన్స్ బాగున్నాయి. అయితే, బోరింగ్ ప్లేతో పాటు లాజిక్ లెస్ సీన్స్, ఇంట్రెస్ట్ కలిగించలేని యాక్షన్ డ్రామా సినిమాకి మైనస్ అయ్యాయి. దీనికితోడు డబ్బింగ్ కూడా బాగాలేదు. ఓవరాల్ గా ఈ సినిమాలో కొన్ని యాక్షన్ ఎలిమెంట్స్ బాగున్నా.. సినిమా మాత్రం కనెక్ట్ కాదు.
