As we experience global and social change within personal and professional environments, the Tiffin University Global Leadership and Change program examines two essential questions:

  • How can we help individuals and organizations navigate the stages of global change and develop an understanding of cultural uniqueness?
  • How can we provide special attention to individuals who are struggling with change?

The program will explore, identify and examine innovation and change strategies to prepare students to become strong leaders in the global context. Key elements of the curriculum include globalization, individual and group behaviors, organizational cultural and change, systems thinking, innovation, cross-cultural communication and social responsibility.

Students graduate with well-developed skills in global leadership, critical thinking, academic writing, and qualitative and quantitative research method understanding and application.

Each professor within the program is a recognized content expert within the course that they teach. Within the curriculum, faculty will assist you in the examination and implementation of the skills necessary to write and publish professional papers for international conferences. As the culminating project, you (while being mentored by your professor) will write and prepare a non-empirical paper for submission to a peer reviewed conference, hopefully launching your academic publishing career.

Become a knowledgeable and innovative leader

This unique and exciting doctoral program prepares you to be a knowledgeable and innovative leader capable of effectively addressing the world’s most challenging and complex public health problems.

The three-year, cohort-based distance program is designed for diverse professionals working full time in field-based settings around the world. Classes are delivered in real time via internet video. You will meet face-to-face for a few days three times per year in years one and two of the program.

See the admissions criteria and apply »

Let us know your interests and how we can help you »

Most in-person sessions take place in Indianapolis, Indiana; other times, the program meets elsewhere in the U.S. or around the world. You will complete dissertations or field-based, culminating projects in year three.

Some international scholars admitted into the DrPH program may need visas to enter the United States for the three short residential visits in years one and two. For those who require it, the Office of International Affairs assists with issuance of a form I-20 required for an F-1 visa.

Annual lecture

The DrPH program hosts an annual lecture to launch the executive visit in August. Previously, the program welcomed Dr. Ken Coburn who presented "Advanced Preventive Care for chronically ill older adults; a 19-year innovation story told in reverse order."

Who will benefit from this program?

drph-course.JPG

A hallmark of the program is the diversity of backgrounds, experiences, and geographic locations of our scholars. Our goal is to admit cohorts of scholars who are as different from each other as possible, since diverse cohorts of learners inspire each other to think creatively.

Successful applicants will, at minimum, have strong academic records, a master’s degree (not necessarily in public health), and leadership experience in positions with substantial management responsibility in varied public health settings.

We admit scholars into two separate cohorts each year depending on level of experience. Mid- to senior-level practitioners with at least several years of experience post-master’s degree in positions with substantial management responsibility comprise an advanced cohort of 12-15 scholars.

A second cohort of up to 25 scholars who are more junior, with at least a few years of experience post-master’s degree in positions with substantial management responsibility, comprise a cohort of emerging leaders.

For both cohorts, we seek individuals who aspire to practice-oriented careers and leadership roles in organizations in which they can have maximum influence on the public’s health.

A focus on leadership development

The program builds on a successful University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill model that Dr. Suzanne Babich helped to design and which she led and refined for 10 years. Leadership skills are cultivated in the program through diverse experiences and exposure to a wide range of perspectives.

Learning is achieved experientially, through highly interactive debates and discussions. Rich exchanges happen in real time, regardless of where in the world scholars are located.

With the Fairbanks School of Public Health program, we have adapted this model, expanding and updating it to offer unique advantages, including:

  • Global curriculum. All courses are internationalized. Competencies gained are applicable whether individuals live and work in Indiana, the U.S., or anywhere in the world.
  • Global faculty. In addition to U.S.-based faculty, program faculty include international experts based in other parts of the world.
  • Global network. The program leverages relationships with other schools and programs, with opportunities to collaborate with faculty and scholars around the world.

Curriculum and competencies

All DrPH candidates must satisfactorily complete a 45 credit, online curriculum. The doctoral program in global health leadership (DrPH) competencies are aligned with the CEPH foundational competencies. P rogram graduates are expected to apply a global perspective to their mastery of all program competencies .

Indiana Tech’s Ph.D. in Global Leadership program prepares scholars for complex leadership roles in the public and private sectors of higher education and in various corporations. The purpose of the Ph.D. in Global Leadership is to prepare scholars for leadership roles in complex organizations in for-profit and not-for-profit sectors and higher education. These scholar leaders will understand their responsibilities and their roles as leaders in conserving, expanding and transforming these organizations and in advancing the discipline of leadership and practice in the global society.

Global leadership is a young multidisciplinary field of study that is exciting for both practitioners and scholars. It focuses on the globally minded, culturally intelligent, socially responsible individuals who lead transnational organizations in every sector of the global economy. It addresses followers as they define the global leader and share the global leader’s vision. Furthermore, global leadership examines organizational systems within complex external and internal environments where interaction between global leaders and followers takes place.

For the Ph.D. program, global leadership encompasses an understanding of the global environment with its complexity; situational and environmental challenges and opportunities; the interaction between environment, culture, social, political and economic trends; the organizational environment in its totality; and leading with a global mindset in the 21st century.

Professional Development Needs in the Public and Private Sectors

Students entering into this course of study do so to meet several different professional needs:

  • Receive advanced training and skills in research, organizational leadership or academic leadership culminating in the terminal degree. The skills provide the foundation for discovering new knowledge in leadership fields and for applying that knowledge to the emerging business environment.
  • Obtain a doctoral degree with the intention to teach in related disciplines, support advancement or change in career.
  • Obtain a terminal degree to further develop an executive leadership role in for-profit, not-for-profit, public, private, educational, corporate or professional organizations.

Program Outcomes

  • Critically analyze theories in the multidisciplinary area of the global leadership studies.
  • Contribute to creation of empirical knowledge and theory development in the area of global leadership by applying advance research skills necessary to conduct original qualitative and quantitative research.
  • Demonstrate a holistic understanding of global leadership by considering both global leaders and global followers and their interaction with and within complex global systems.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of unique approaches and skills in conducting international research in areas of global leadership studies.

Naghibi, Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, First Foundation Bank

“ Excellent and well-rounded program, with lecturers with deep subject matter knowledge. Highly recommend it to global leaders who want to make a difference. ” Dung Tran, VP, Managing Director and Board Member, Spartronics

“Terrific professors, amazing group of talented classmates, inspiring coaching sessions, superb content, and useful tools to incorporate into my management toolbox – just the tip of the iceberg of highlights. I'm exceedingly grateful to the fantastic Yale SOM team for their professional approach and support! Special compliments to Professor Sonnenfeld for his unending enthusiasm, incredible charisma, great knowledge, and the exciting American & global contexts he shared with us. YGELP has had a tremendous impact on myself and will definitely bring benefits to my organization. Learning is the mother of all leadership competencies. I’d highly recommend Yale SOM as the best place to get important knowledge, skills, and attitudes, required for leaders in the fast-changing globalized world.” Daniil Klyuchnikov, Sales Director, Central & Eastern Europe, the Emerging Markets, Transporeon

“YGELP opened my aperture. The confidence I gained, combined with the incredible Yale community and cohort I can contact for guidance, has enhanced my abilities to meet the diverse challenges of my current position and made me a better leader for our team. I also gained a tremendous amount of respect for my cohorts - to an individual, they are innovative, intelligent, courageous, empathetic, and completely dedicated to their people. It was an honor to learn from and with them.” Gloria Berlanga, Chief of Staff, Rhode Island National Guard

“Yale’s Global Executive Leadership Program is ideal for transitioning senior military leaders looking to continue achievement in the private sector. The course content and structure (along with your class cohort) will evolve your thinking as a leader.” Lonnie Garris, Founder & CEO, Cool Amps Corp.

“I came to Yale in transition after a company reorganization. As a high-drive, high-functioning, high-level executive leader for 20 years, I felt like my purpose was in question. And I didn't have a tribe. Fast forward seven months, post-program: I'm a successful consultant; a social venture founder; and most importantly, a member of a worldwide 'tribe' of executives, faculty, and administration who helped challenge me to say, "So what? It happened. Now what? Get out there. Raise the bar and change the world." You'll see that across the experience, and it is invaluable. There are plenty of executive education programs out there - choose Yale if you want a lifetime of connections, business opportunities, and being a Yalie for life!” Demi Knight Clark, Founder + Chief Spark Igniter, Spark Building Group

“I came to the Yale Global Executive Leadership Program with high expectations based on what I knew about the program and my interactions with program staff prior to our arrival on campus. They exceeded all my expectations. Venue, instructors, topics, and classmates are all world-class. The quality of instruction is matched by the amazing opportunity to make life-long friendships with peers around the world. Truly a great program.” Rodrigo Jimenez, CEO, Sceptre Hospitality Resources

The average size for each cohort is 40; in the past, cohorts have ranged from 29 to 45. The program is intentionally small to create meaningful connections between participants both during and after the program and to provide individualized attention in class and during monthly Zoom meetings.

Each cohort is diverse in terms of citizenship/location, industry, and function. The common thread is that each participant is expected to be at/on the track to a C-level, leadership position and an integral part of the organization’s decision-making team.

The dates are fixed. Each cohort meets for two weeks in April/May to kick off the program. The cohort also meets for two weeks in September and concludes with one week in December. In addition, cohort members gather monthly with the faculty director via Zoom.

During each module on campus, classes start at 8:30 a.m. and usually end at 5 p.m. A detailed agenda, including access to pre-work and readings, will be available via our online learning platform a few weeks before each module.

The cost for the program is $60,000. Included in the cost for YGELP are the program fee, study materials, lodging, and some meals (including welcome and closing dinners). The fee does not include travel to and from New Haven.

YGELP takes place on campus at the home of the Yale School of Management, Edward P. Evans   Hall.  Monthly check-in meetings between modules are held via Zoom.

Participants are provided accommodation at a local hotel in downtown New Haven, within walking distance of the Yale School of Management.

The Yale School of Management is proud to support special funding opportunities for military professionals through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for select programs, including YGELP.

Students come from a variety of educational backgrounds. As a result, there are no standards that typify a successful doctoral student. While many applicants may possess an undergraduate or graduate degree in Global Leadership, it is not a necessity. What the applicant needs to show is an unmistakable research focus on Global Leadership that mirrors the research agenda of a doctoral directive faculty member.

A Ph.D. program is by nature a research-oriented degree; students will be expected to be actively engaged in research teams with faculty members and other doctoral students. As mentioned previously, the applicant must exhibit a research focus in Global Leadership. It is strongly recommended, although not required, that the applicant’s written sample show this focused area.

Transfer Credit From Regionally Accredited Universities*

No credit may be transferred to a Troy University graduate program until a student is unconditionally admitted and has successfully completed a minimum of 12 semester hours with the University.  The maximum number of graduate credit hours transferred into a graduate program will not exceed 18 semester hours.  Please consult specific degree programs to determine allowable transfer credit hours.

  • A grade of ''B'' or higher must have been earned in each course. Transfer credit will not be used to determine the Troy University grade point average. A copy of the course syllabus may be required.
  • To be acceptable as transfer credit, all hours must have been earned within eight years of the date of degree completion of the graduate program at Troy University. Credit accepted as transfer credit, which becomes over eight years old before the graduate degree requirements are completed, will become invalid and will not be counted toward graduate degree requirements.
  • Where Troy University is replacing another university under Department of Defense contracts, students will be permitted to transfer up to 18 semester hours of Troy University equivalent coursework. This rule applies for one calendar year from the start of the Troy University program and is only for students who have been in attendance at that site.

No. All of the doctoral core, research, and statistic classes will be offered at the doctoral (8800) level. Duplication of classes the student took in their Master’s at Troy University will not be permitted.

According to a leading figure in Global Leadership, Troy University’s proposed Ph.D. in Global Leadership has the potential to fill a large, documented void in Global Leadership education by providing a heretofore unavailable reputable online and/or blended Ph.D. program that meets the needs of working professionals. In addition, executives and leaders who wish to advance their knowledge and understanding of Global Leadership would have their needs met through this Troy University Ph.D. program.

Service members may want to pursue a doctorate in Global Leadership. However, due to military obligations, current members, as well as veterans, are often challenged in finding a program that can satisfy their desire for an advanced education. The proposed doctoral program in Global Leadership offers a format that will allow current members of the armed forces to fulfill their military obligations while providing them with an advanced educational opportunity to prepare them for life after the military. Specifically, a doctorate in Global Leadership from Troy University will allow military personnel to combine their previous experiences in leadership, management, organization, and operations with a curriculum that is designed to further enhance understanding and knowledge, including advanced leadership theories, organizational behavior, marketing, management and ethical and legal issues in Global Leadership.

All of the classes, including all doctoral core, elective, research, and statistic classes will be offered online. The students must work with their advisor in scheduling all classes.

All of the online classes will be offered through TROY Online. Classes will be offered in terms of nine (9) weeks. Presently, Troy University offers five, 9-week terms. The student may take more than the maximum with administrative approval.

No. At the present time, no teaching assistantships are available.

Students, in collaboration with their advisor, will be expected to assist in submitting proposals for presentations at national and international conferences. Moreover, it will be expected that students will work with their advisor to assist in writing and submitting for publications prior to embarking on the dissertation process. Exposure to writing and submitting research projects prepares doctoral students to understand and perform basic and applied research in their specialty area. The student may assist their advisor in writing grant proposals to fund potential research and also write their own grant proposal to fund their own research.

Consistent with other terminal degree programs at TROY, the Global Leadership doctoral student will have a maximum time of eight (8) years for degree completion, inclusive of completing dissertation requirements. However, it is important to note that a full-time student (i.e., taking six credits per term) may be able to complete coursework in two (2) years. Additionally, dissertation may require one to two (1-2) years to fully complete. As a result, students can finish the program in as little as three (3) years. To do so, the students must communicate with their advisor on a regular basis.

The Ph.D. Global Leadership program at Troy University not only provides the flexibility of taking classes online but also allows the student flexibility to determine their specific area of specialization: Organizational Leadership or Higher Education.

To do so, the students will be required to work closely and receive approval from their major advisor for the classes. Generally, the cognate specialization area will reflect the classes taken outside of the doctoral core and the topic of the dissertation.

The student must maintain a cumulative minimum of a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

An advisor will be assigned to you upon admittance to the program, and any questions in regard to registration or coursework should be answered by your faculty advisor. He or she will guide you in your coursework only. It is your responsibility to select a Dissertation Chair within 18 credit hours of starting the program. In other words, your current advisor will not necessarily be your Dissertation Chair, who will chair your comprehensive exam and dissertation. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that you work closely with the doctoral faculty members during the first year of the program and choose a Dissertation Chair with his/her agreement.

Dissertation credit hours may exceed, but may not be less than, the minimum of 12 credit hours. The number of hours the student takes per term should be in agreement with the major faculty advisor. Students must be continuously enrolled for a minimum of one (1) credit hour in Dissertation per term—after being admitted to candidacy, during and including the term in which they successfully defend their dissertation.

The Master in Public Administration in International Development (MPA/ID) Program offers unparalleled training for a professional career in development. The mix of theoretical rigor with practical approaches has proven to be a powerful combination. Our graduates hold influential policy, advocacy, and management positions at international organizations, national governments, non-governmental organizations, and private sector companies.

The right fit

The MPA/ID Program may be the right fit for you if you:

  • Demonstrate commitment to solving the economic, social, or political problems facing low-income communities, regions, or nations
  • Work in the development field, whether in government, nonprofits, central or regional banks, international development institutions, research organizations, or the private sector
  • Want to deepen and broaden your understanding of development problems and acquire the analytical tools and global perspectives to design and implement effective solutions
“The MPA/ID Program expanded my perspectives and equipped me with a set of analytical tools to make the impact I seek to have in the world.” — Jiawen Tang MPA/ID 2021

About the MPA/ID Program

Training for development practitioners.

The MPA/ID Program is a rigorous, economics-centered program designed to train the next generation of practitioners and leaders in the field of global development.

Within a multidisciplinary core curriculum,  you will take advanced economics and quantitative methods sequences  with an emphasis on key policy applications to development. You will also complete core courses in economic development, politics, political philosophy, and management—integrated with the theory and practice of development.

In your second year, you’ll choose from elective options at HKS, at the other graduate schools at Harvard—such as  Business ,  Design ,  Education ,  Law , and  Public Health  as well as the  Faculty of Arts and Sciences —and at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Core Curriculum

  • Advanced Microeconomics ( API-109 ,  API-110 )
  • Advanced Macroeconomics  ( API-119 ,  API-120 )
  • Advanced Statistics and Econometrics ( API-209 ,  API-210 )
  • Economic Development: Theory and Evidence ( DEV-101 ,  DEV-102 )
  • Applications and Cases in International Development ( DEV-401 )
  • The Politics of Development ( DPI-410 )
  • Political Philosophy for Development ( DPI-411 )
  • Getting Things Done: Management in a Development Context ( MLD-102 )
  • Second Year Policy Analysis Seminar ( DEV-250 )

You will gain professional expertise through the case workshop and speaker series, a required summer internship , and an integrative capstone paper .

Second Year Policy Analysis : Using Your Toolkit

The Second Year Policy Analysis (SYPA) serves as the capstone experience for the MPA/ID Program. You will choose a current development issue of interest to you; select your faculty advisor; and draw on the tools of economics, management, and political analysis to define the problem, analyze the evidence, develop alternatives, and provide specific policy recommendations for a concrete development problem.

Summer Internships : Out of the classroom, into the field

During the summer between your first and second year, you will engage in a development project, typically in a low- to middle-income country other than your own. This field experience allows you to apply the skills you’ve acquired during your first year and explore a new organization, substantive area of interest, or part of the world.

STEM Eligibility

The MPA/ID Program is a designated STEM-eligible program (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Students with F-1 visas may apply to work in the United States for two additional years  beyond the standard 12-month Optional Practical Training (OPT)  following graduation.

Degree Requirements

The MPA/ID Program consists of four semesters of full-time coursework in residence at HKS. The coursework includes the core curriculum, a minimum of six electives (24 credits), a development-related internship, and the Second-Year Policy Analysis.

To graduate, you must:

  • Matriculate as a full-time, in-residence student and take 12-24 credits per semester
  • Earn at least 76 credits, which must include the required courses, SYPA, and electives
  • Finish with a GPA of B or better
  • Earn a B- or higher in all required MPA/ID courses

Combined Degrees

You might consider  pursuing a second degree jointly or concurrently  if you’re interested in how the world’s challenges can be addressed at the intersection of international development and business, law, medicine, design, or other fields.

Pursuing a joint or concurrent degree reduces coursework and residency requirements and makes it possible to earn two degrees in a shorter amount of time.

Joint Degrees

As an MPA/ID student, you can pursue a  joint degree —either an MBA at  Harvard Business School  or a JD at  Harvard Law School —that involves carefully crafted and integrated coursework.

Concurrent Degrees

You can pursue a concurrent degree in business, law, medicine, design, or another field—as long as it is:

  • A professional degree (for example, an MBA, MD, or JD; not a PhD or an academic master’s degree)
  • At least a two-year program
  • Completed at a partner school

The concurrent degree program allows you to pursue degrees at HKS and at a partner school; however, the coursework is not as closely integrated as the joint degree program. As a concurrent degree student, you are responsible for weaving together the two halves of your learning experience.

Faculty & Research

Where ideas meet practice.

Our faculty members are changing the ways in which poverty and underdevelopment are analyzed and approached.

MPA/ID faculty members are scholars  and  practitioners working with governments, international organizations, and NGOs. They are  diagnosing economic woes and helping develop cures , bringing  real-world development and political experience  to bear on complex challenges, and helping people  escape poverty  by understanding what hinders development progress.

Uog doctoral program set to launch in fall 2024.

Left, President Anita Borja Enriquez, Right, Dean Alicia Aguon

The University of Guam announces that it has received approval from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC)   to begin offering its first ever online doctoral program — a Doctor of Education (EdD) in Instructional and Academic Leadership.

The new EdD program emphasizes development of the “scholar-practitioner” who will integrate their professional experiences with research and theory to improve educational practices within their cultural contexts and to influence change in their educational and organizational settings.

“UOG was founded as a teaching college in 1952 and has since developed tremendous capacity for teachers, counselors, and school administrators for our island and region,” said Anita Borja Enriquez, UOG President. "This new doctoral program is our commitment to advancing education, elevating the focus on research agendas relevant to our region, and addressing improvement to instructional areas and overall educational leadership."

School of Education Dean Alicia Aguon noted that the new doctorate responds to the needs of educators and school systems across the region.

“Our survey had nearly a thousand respondents including alumni, education professionals, and stakeholders throughout Micronesia, and overwhelmingly, there was a stated need for a program geared toward instructional and academic leadership,” said Aguon. “This doctoral program is groundbreaking as it has been developed with a cultural competency unique to our region.”

The School of Education will begin accepting applications to the doctoral program this summer with its first courses starting this October. UOG will release more details in the coming weeks about information sessions and the application timeline.

“This isn’t just a milestone for UOG, it’s a milestone for education across the region,” said Enriquez “I am thrilled to see the meaningful, diverse conversational and collaborative synergies unfold from our inaugural cohort.”

Overview of the Doctor of Education (EdD) in Instructional and Academic Leadership

  • The EdD program is an online program with 20 required courses and a total of 60 credit hours.
  • The dissertation is built in as coursework in the program of study.
  • The program is expected to take four years to complete without pausing.
  • The UOG Board of Regents approved the program in June 2023 and the WASC Senior College and University Commission approved the program in March 2024.
  • Up to 25 students are projected for the program’s inaugural cohort.
  • The program will launch in Fanuchånan (Fall) 2024.
