Shruti [child artiste Hansika Motwani] is the 10-year-old daughter of Shrikant [Sanjay Kapoor] and Shraddha [Raveena Tandon]. She travels to her school by the local train every morning. One day, she accidentally gets locked up in her school and by the time she catches a train to go home, it is already midnight. Three young drug addicts also board the train and seeing her alone, they rape her in front of three passengers who seem afraid and helpless to come to her aid. Shruti is brought in an unconscious state to the hospital by the police. She breathes her last in front of her aggrieved parents. The city is shocked by this untoward incident. The case is handed over to Kripa Shankar Thakur [Manoj Bajpai], an upright and honest cop from the Crime Branch. From here starts an unusual legal battle between the honest and the corrupt.

Hollywood has often depicted the disturbing issue of child molestation. However, the abysmal issue has been project twice on the Hindi screen in the recent past Mira Nair's MONSOON WEDDING and Mahesh Manjrekar's PITAAH.

Mehul Kumar, the director of hard-hitting films such as KRANTIVEER and TIRANGAA, is back yet again with a hard-hitting fare. His latest film, JAAGO, based on a true-life shocking incident the rape of a 9-year-old school girl in a local train of Mumbai is a hard-hitting statement that pricks your conscience and makes you think.

Shruti [child artiste Hansika Motwani] is the 10-year-old daughter of Shrikant [Sanjay Kapoor] and Shraddha [Raveena Tandon]. She travels to her school by the local train every morning.

One day, she accidentally gets locked up in her school and by the time she catches a train to go home, it is already midnight. Three young drug addicts also board the train and seeing her alone, they rape her in front of three passengers who seem afraid and helpless to come to her aid.

A songless film [more and more producers are attempting songless movies a trend that is gaining momentum!], JAAGO depicts the heinous act with utmost realism. Your heart skips a beat when three drug addicts [two of them belonging to affluent families] force themselves on this hapless young girl. Right in front of mute spectators!

Although child molestation continues to wreck havoc on young lives, the finale of the film will be met with a thunderous response. There couldn't have been a more appropriate end for the film!

However, the film does have its share of loose threads

The screenplay is not as well penned as one would've expected it to be. For instance, Manoj's brainwave of planting Raveena, the victim's mother, in the midnight train doesn't really gel. In fact, watching Raveena in skimpy outfits looks formulaic and robs the film of its intentions.

Another flaw is that the constant conflict between the victims' affluent fathers and Manoj Bajpai has nothing novel to it. Even the Puru Raaj Kumar track looks completely forced in the goings-on.

Mehul Kumar was instrumental in giving a fillip to Raaj Kumar's career with MARTE DAM TAK and Nana Patekar's career with author-backed roles in KRANTIVEER and TIRANGAA. In JAAGO, the director recreates the magic with Manoj Bajpai, who delivers an astounding performance. His lengthy outburst in the courtroom before the judge pronounces the verdict deserves an ovation. In fact, the actor seems apt for the role of a crusader.

Yet another factor that stands out is K.K. Singh's dialogues. To state that the dialogues are the soul of the film would be an understatement. The background score [Sameer Sen] is up to the mark.

Sanjay Kapoor is appropriate. Raveena Tandon conveys the pathos effectively. Akhilendra Mishra enacts the bad man role with flourish.

On the whole, JAAGO has a hard-hitting theme as its USP, but the very theme will meet with diverse reactions from cinegoers. While the masses might take to the theme, the orthodox families specifically may not really stomach the disturbing issue the film tries to project. At the box-office, the film has some chances in the Hindi belt. A solo release may also help to an extent. However, business in multiplexes won't be really rewarding!

Maestro is a film that many were waiting for eagerly. The film is the official remake of Andha Adhun and is now live on Disney Hotstar. Let’s see how it is.

Arun(Nithin) is a blind man who earns his living by playing the piano in Goa. Impressed by him, a yesteryear actor(Naresh) invites him to perform for his wife Simran(Tamannah) on their wedding anniversary. Arun lands at the star’s house only to get involved in a deadly murder. Who has been killed? What will Arun do now? What’s Simran’s role in all this? and where do Nabha Natesh and Jisshu Sen Gupta feature in this setup? That forms the rest of the story.

Plus Points:

Nithin makes a U-turn from his regular romantic dramas and chooses a role where he gets to perform. Nithin as the blind man suits the character perfectly and does not go overboard. There is no heroism in his role but still, Nithin made sure his body language expresses a lot.

Maestro will surely be a big game-changer for Tamannah as she is amazing in a negative role. Right from her looks to the expressions, Tamannah is top class. Her own voice also suits the negative role. All her scenes with Nithin have been executed so well.

The soul of the film is intact and has not been disturbed by the makers. The backdrop of Goa also suits the theme of the film. Nabha Natesh is neat in her small role and shares good chemistry with Nithin. Racha Ravi and Mangli get good roles and they do well in their given characters.

Minus Points:

Those who have seen the original will surely draw comparisons. Merlapaka Gandhi has directed the film and he has narrated the remake in a faithful manner. But the place where the film drops is the drama quotient. The film originally had gripping drama but the director failed to elevate it in the remake.

Nithin’s role needed more dramatization but he is showcased in a pale and dull manner in tense scenes. The tension he faces in crazy situations has not been elevated properly. If Nithin’s role and thrills would have been showcased in a more interesting manner in the second half, the effect would have been even better.

All the showcased thrills are good but the impact that the original created is missed in the remake. During the climax, the audience is waiting in tension to know the twist and a song breaks out and this drags the ending.

Technical Aspects:

The production values are great as the film has good visuals. The Goan setup and the crime backdrop are elevated well through good camerawork. Music by Mahati Sagar is just about okay but his BGM was classy. The editing is decent and so was the production design. Nithin was also styled well in the film.

Coming to the director Merlapaka Gandhi, he has done a decent job with the remake. He does not experiment much and showcased what was needed. If he would have added more intensity to the drama, things would have been great.

On the whole, Maestro is a faithful remake of Andha Dhun and has interesting thrills. Nithin and Tamannah shoulder the film with their standout performances. All those who have seen the original will surely miss the drama a bit. But those who have not will end up liking this thriller which was some passable suspense elements.

‘ప‌ఠాన్‌’తో మ‌ళ్లీ ఫామ్‌లోకి వ‌చ్చిన షారుక్‌ ఖాన్ ఈ సారి ‘జ‌వాన్‌’ (Jawan)గా ప్రేక్ష‌కుల ముందుకొచ్చాడు. ఈ సినిమా కోసం ప్రేక్ష‌కులు ఎంత ఆత్రుత‌గా ఎదురుచూశారో దాని అడ్వాన్స్ బుకింగ్స్ చాటి చెప్పాయి. బాలీవుడ్ బాద్‌షా షారుక్‌ ఖాన్... ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు అట్లీ క‌లసి చేసిన సినిమా కావ‌డంతో ఉత్త‌రాదిలోనే కాకుండా ద‌క్షిణాదిలోనూ ఆస‌క్తిని, అంచ‌నాల్ని పెంచింది. మ‌రి సినిమా ఎలా ఉంది?(Jawan movie review) షారుక్‌ తన విజ‌య ప‌రంప‌ర‌ని కొనసాగించాడా?

కథేంటంటే: గుండుతో క‌నిపించే ఓ అజ్ఞాత వ్య‌క్తి (షారుక్‌ ఖాన్‌) త‌న గ్యాంగ్‌లోని ఆరుగురు అమ్మాయిలతో క‌లిసి ముంబైలోని మెట్రో రైల్‌ని హైజాక్ చేస్తాడు. ప్ర‌భుత్వాన్ని రూ.40 వేల కోట్లు ఇవ్వాల్సిందేనని డిమాండ్ చేస్తాడు. ఆ క్ర‌మంలో ప్ర‌యాణికుల ప్రాణాల్ని తీయ‌డానికి కూడా వెన‌కాడ‌డు. హైజాక‌ర్ల‌ని ప‌ట్టుకోవ‌డం కోసం ఐపీఎస్ న‌ర్మ‌ద ( Nayanthara ) ని రంగంలోకి దింపుతుంది అధికార యంత్రాంగం. అయినా తాను అనుకున్న‌ది సాధించి చాక‌చ‌క్యంగా త‌ప్పించుకుంటాడు. త‌న‌కి ఇచ్చిన రూ.40 వేల కోట్ల‌ని పేద‌ల ఖాతాల్లో జ‌మ చేస్తాడు. న‌యా రాబిన్‌ హుడ్‌ లాంటి ఆ హైజాక‌ర్ వ్య‌వ‌హారం సంచ‌ల‌నంగా మారుతుంది. న‌ర్మ‌ద‌, త‌న బృందం సాగించిన ప‌రిశోధ‌న‌లో హైజాక‌ర్...  ఓ కారాగారంలో విధులు నిర్వ‌ర్తించే జైల‌ర్ ఆజాద్ (షారుక్‌ ఖాన్) పోలిక‌ల‌తో ఉన్న‌ట్టు తేలుతుంది. జైల‌ర్ ఆజాద్ హైజాక‌ర్‌గా మారాడా? ఆయ‌న వెంట ఉన్న ఆరుగురు యువ‌తులు ఎవ‌రు? ఒక‌ప్పుడు ఆర్మీలో ప‌నిచేసిన విక్ర‌మ్ రాథోడ్ (షారుక్‌ ఖాన్‌)కీ, ఆజాద్‌కీ సంబంధం ఏంటి? (Jawan movie review) ప‌్ర‌పంచంలోని ఐదో అతి పెద్ద ఆయుధాల వ్యాపారి కాళీ గైక్వాడ్ (విజ‌య్ సేతుప‌తి) క‌థేంటి? త‌దిత‌ర విష‌యాల్ని తెర‌పై చూడాల్సిందే.

ఎలా ఉందంటే: ద‌క్షిణాదిలో ముఖ్యంగా తెలుగు, త‌మిళ భాష‌ల్లోని అగ్ర తార‌ల సినిమాల‌న‌గానే తారాస్థాయి హీరోయిజం... వీరోచిత‌మైన పోరాటాలు, సామాజికాంశాలు, అభిమానుల్ని మెప్పించే ఇత‌ర‌త్రా మాస్ అంశాల మేళవింపుగా రూపొందుతుంటాయి. క‌థ కాస్త ఆస‌క్తిక‌రంగా సాగిందంటే చాలు... ఆ సినిమాల‌కి ఆకాశ‌మే హ‌ద్దు.  అలాంటి ఓ క‌థ‌లోనే బాలీవుడ్ బాద్‌షా షారుక్‌  ( Shah Rukh Khan ) ని చూపించారు అట్లీ. ఆయ‌న‌కి షారుక్‌ ఇమేజ్‌, మార్కెట్ మ‌రింత‌గా క‌లిసి రావ‌డంతో సినిమాకు అదనపు హంగులు జోడించి తెర‌కెక్కించారు. దాంతో ప్ర‌తి స‌న్నివేశం లార్జ‌ర్ దేన్ లైఫ్ త‌ర‌హాలో ఉంటుంది. ఒక్క మాట‌లో చెప్పాలంటే.. ఇది అట్లీ మార్క్ హిందీ సినిమా.

షారుక్‌ ఖాన్ ఎప్పుడూ క‌నిపించ‌నంత మాస్‌గా... వైవిధ్యమైన గెట‌ప్పుల్లో క‌నిపించ‌డం ఆయ‌న అభిమానుల‌కి మ‌రింత ఉత్సాహాన్నిస్తుంది. (Jawan movie review in telugu) ఎప్ప‌ట్లాగే అట్లీ ప‌లు పార్శ్వాల‌తో క‌థ‌ని రాసుకున్నాడు. దాదాపుగా కీల‌క‌మైన  ప్ర‌తి పాత్ర‌కీ ఫ్లాష్‌బ్యాక్ ఉంటుంది. వాటిని తెలుసుకోవాల‌నే ఉత్సుక‌త‌ని ప్రేక్ష‌కుల్లో క‌లిగిస్తూ క‌థ‌ని ముందుకు న‌డిపించాడు. ‘నేనెవ‌ర్ని’? అనిపిస్తూ షారుక్‌ని ప‌రిచ‌యం చేసిన అట్లీ, ఆ వెంట‌నే హైజాక్ ఎపిసోడ్‌తో క‌థని మొద‌లుపెట్టాడు. షారుక్‌ మార్క్ వినోదం ఏమాత్రం త‌గ్గ‌కుండా...  ప్ర‌భుత్వాల్ని ప్ర‌శ్నించేలా కొన్ని ఎపిసోడ్స్‌ని తీర్చిదిద్దుతూ బ్యాలెన్సింగ్‌గా క‌థ‌ని చెప్పాడు ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు.

వ్య‌వ‌సాయశాఖ మంత్రి, ఆరోగ్యశాఖ మంత్రి నేప‌థ్యంలో వ‌చ్చే ఎపిసోడ్స్ ప్ర‌థ‌మార్ధానికి హైలైట్‌. ఒక‌వైపు ఆజాద్‌ని ప‌ట్టుకోవ‌డం కోసం ప్ర‌య‌త్నాలు.. మ‌రోవైపు ప్రేమ స‌న్నివేశాల నేప‌థ్యం మంచి డ్రామాని పండించింది. విరామ స‌న్నివేశాలు సినిమాను మరో స్థాయికి తీసుకెళ్లాయి. విక్ర‌మ్ రాథోడ్‌గా షారుక్‌ ఖాన్ ప‌రిచ‌యం కావ‌డం, ఆ వెంట‌నే మొద‌ల‌య్యే ఫ్లాష్‌బ్యాక్ ఎపిసోడ్ సినిమాకి కీల‌కం. సెకండాఫ్‌లో ఈవీఎమ్ నేప‌థ్యంలో స‌న్నివేశాలు మరొక హైలైట్‌. షారుక్‌ క‌నిపించిన‌ప్పుడంతా అభిమానులు చ‌ప్ప‌ట్లు కొట్టేలా హీరోయిక్‌గా స‌న్నివేశాల్ని తీర్చిదిద్దాడు ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు. ప‌తాక స‌న్నివేశాలు, పోరాట ఘ‌ట్టాలు పైసా వ‌సూల్. ఈ క్ర‌మంలో ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు లాజిక్‌ల‌ని ప‌ట్టించుకోలేదు. కొన్ని స‌న్నివేశాలు మ‌రీ డ్ర‌మటిక్‌గా అనిపిస్తాయి. కానీ మాస్ మ‌సాలా సినిమాల్లో అలాంటి లెక్క‌ల్ని ప‌ట్టించుకోన‌వ‌స‌రం లేద‌న్న‌ట్టుగా అట్లీ త‌నదైన శైలిలో స‌న్నివేశాల్ని తీర్చిదిద్దుతూ వెళ్లాడు. షారుక్‌ అభిమానుల‌కి కావ‌ల్సినంత సంద‌డిని పంచే ఈ సినిమా... మాస్ మ‌సాలా సినిమాల ప్రియుల‌కీ మంచి కాల‌క్షేపాన్నిస్తుంది. హ్యాపీ ఓన‌మ్ అంటూ మాధ‌వ‌న్ నాయ‌ర్ పాత్ర‌లో సంజ‌య్ ద‌త్ చేసిన సంద‌డి సినిమాలో కొస‌మెరుపు.

ఎవ‌రెలా చేశారంటే: షారుక్‌ ఖాన్ ( Shah Rukh Khan ) మాస్ అవ‌తార్ అద‌ర‌హో అనిపిస్తుంది. ఆయ‌న రెండు కోణాల్లో సాగే పాత్ర‌లో చ‌క్క‌టి అభిన‌యం ప్ర‌ద‌ర్శించారు. ర‌క‌ర‌కాల గెట‌ప్పుల్లో ఒదిగిపోయిన తీరు మెప్పిస్తుంది. పాట‌లు, పోరాట ఘ‌ట్టాల్లో ఎప్ప‌ట్లాగే అద‌ర‌గొట్టిన షారుక్‌... సామాజికాంశాలు, కుటుంబం నేప‌థ్యంలో వ‌చ్చే స‌న్నివేశాల్లోనూ ఆకట్టుకున్నాడు. న‌య‌న‌తార ఆరంభం నుంచి చివ‌రి వ‌ర‌కూ క‌నిపిస్తుంది. కీల‌క‌మైన పాత్రే అయినా... షారుక్‌కీ, ఆమెకీ మ‌ధ్య  కెమిస్ట్రీ అంత‌గా ఎలివేట్‌ కాలేదు. ఆ నేప‌థ్యంలో ఎక్కువ స‌న్నివేశాలు లేక‌పోవ‌డ‌మే అందుకు కార‌ణమేమో. కాళీ గైక్వాడ్‌గా విజ‌య్ సేతుప‌తి ద్వితీయార్ధంపై ప్ర‌భావం చూపిస్తారు. ప్రియ‌మ‌ణి, సాన్య మ‌ల్హోత్రా, రిద్ధి, సంజీత త‌దిత‌రులకి కీల‌క‌మైన పాత్ర‌ల‌కి ద‌క్కాయి. సాంకేతికంగా సినిమా ఉన్న‌తంగా ఉంది. విష్ణు కెమెరా ప‌నిత‌నం టాప్‌ నాచ్‌ అని చెప్పవచ్చు. అనిరుధ్ పాట‌ల కంటే కూడా నేప‌థ్య సంగీతంతో షారుక్‌ హీరోయిజాన్ని మ‌రోస్థాయికి తీసుకెళ్లాడు. యాక్ష‌న్‌, ఎడిటింగ్‌, మేక‌ప్, ప్రొడ‌క్ష‌న్ డిజైన్ విభాగాలు కూడా స‌త్తా చాటాయి. అట్లీ క‌థ కంటే కూడా క‌థ‌నం గురించి ప్ర‌త్యేకంగా చెప్పుకోవాలి. ప‌లు పార్శ్వాలతో కూడిన ఈ క‌థ‌ని ఎంతో స్ప‌ష్టంగా చెప్పాడు. క‌థ‌ని మొద‌లుపెట్టిన విధానం, ముగింపు బాగుంది. నిర్మాణ విలువలు బాగున్నాయి.

Saaho is one of the most awaited films in recent times. Post Baahubali, this is the only film that has created such a buzz in the media and general audience. Produced by UV Creations and directed by Sujeeth, this film was released in over 9000 screens worldwide. Let’s now see whether the film lives up to all the hype or not.

The film is set in the backdrop of Waaji city which is ruled by Roy(Jackie Shroff). This does not go well with other members of the mafia and they try to eliminate Roy. During the same time, huge money is robbed from Devaraj(Chunkey Pandey) who runs the opposite gang. The cops employ an undercover cop Ashok(Prabhas) to crack this case. Who is this thief who is robbing Devaraj and his gang? What role does Ashok play in this setup?. To know this, you have to watch the film on the big screen.

Plus Points:

What surprises you with Saaho is the sheer scale of the film. The makers have gone all out and every penny spent is showcased wonderfully on-screen. The grandeur in fights, songs and action sequences, it is a first of its kind for Telugu cinema itself.

Prabhas does not disappoint his fans post-Baahubali. Be it his macho screen presence or the manner in which he carries the film on his shoulders, Prabhas is pretty good and is a feast for the fans.

Shraddha Kapoor makes an impressive Tollywood debut with Saaho. She is beautiful, shares superb chemistry with Prabhas and at the same time, does her action part quite convincingly.

Star Bollywood actors like Jackie Shroff, Neil Nithin Mukesh play their roles in a very stylish manner. They give the film a complete edge and make it suave. Chunkey Pandey as the main villain is pretty good and does well.

Murali Sharma is neat in his role of a cop and so was Vennela Kishore. The pre-climax action sequence which is shot in Dubai is an edge of the seat ride. The songs have been shot lavishly.

Minus Points:

Prabhas does his part well but his makeup, hairstyle, and costumes in many areas is not up to the mark as the star hero looks lazy and dull in a few scenes. The first half is so boring and all the expectations created on the film come down crashing.

The story is quite predictable and is a rip off from several recent Indian films. It has just been given a stylish touch. The film needs trimming of over 10 minutes to make things better.

One of the main drawbacks is the screenplay which is confusing and not up to the mark. The normal audience can get very confused as to what is happening in the film as so many things happen in quick succession.

The manner in which Prabhas and his cop set up are induced in the story lacks basic sense and logic. Sujeeth has surely not utilized the full potential of Prabhas in a proper manner.

Technical Aspects:

Production values of the film are superb. UV Creations have shed their blood and soul to make this film rich, and it does in every which way. Right from the setup to the lavish visuals, everything looks good. Madhie has shot the action part well. The fights, in particular, have been elevated superbly and give the audience a grand sight. Dialogues are pretty good.

Ghibran takes the film a notch higher with his BGM. The music composed by different musicians is also good. Special mention to the production design as the full credit should go to Sabu Cyril for giving the mafia set up a stylish and suave look. Lyrics in all the songs are just about okay.

Coming to the director Sujeeth, he has surely lost out on a big opportunity given by Prabhas. His script is good on paper but his execution is below par. He could not utilize the stardom of Prabhas well and shows him in a very dull manner in key scenes. There are many areas where he could have elevated important scenes but Sujeeth failed to do that and spoilt the first half. He makes it up in the last half an hour as the manner in which he has designed the action is good. But rest of his work is not up to the mark.

On the whole, Saaho surely does not live up to all the expectations and hype laid upon it. Prabhas leads from the front and the action part is very good. But all this only comes in the last half an hour. Rest of the film has an improper screenplay and confuses the audience. Sujeeth’s inexperience takes the film down in many areas. The real test for the film will start once the long weekend is over. Fans of Prabhas will like the film but all those who are watching this film need to lower your expectations completely as Saaho does not have the adrenaline pumping moments which the makers and promos boasted off.
