My name is Jack Oliver; I am applying for a Thailand tourist visa which will be enable me travel to Thailand. I intend making this trip from the 3 rd of April to the 3 rd of May 1999. I am self sponsoring this trip and I have already booked my accommodation at the popular Phulay Bay. During my visit I would love to visit places like Ao Nang beach,ralay ranch and Hong island. Other fun things I will like to do include island hopping, ride a tuk tuk, watch sunset at sky bar, go diving and visit the different temples around. I intend to visit popular eateries like siam city thai restaurant, Thai chi royal thai cousine and chi thai revolution restaurant to taste the different Thai delicacies.

I have been under the employ of Mercentile bank plc for about 4 years now. I am currently the marketing director in the bank. My direct employer has already approved of my vacation duration. The below documents are attached to this letter: the visa application form,  coverage of $50,000 travel insurance, my passport that shows travel experience, hotel reservations that I have already booked and the E-ticket reservation for my flight. Thailand visa can be obtained at one of the many Thai embassies and consulates found in most of the countries around the world. If the purpose of your visit is tourism, you can get a Single Entry Tourist Visa  (at any embassy or consulate) or Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (only at the embassy or consulate in your country). Thailand visa application form TM.87 is used for all types of Thailand visa, except Visa on Arrival .

The exact application form can vary depending on Thai embassy / consulate as they like to add the name of the institution on it or change a layout a bit. How to Fill Thailand Visa Application Form

Below you will find a detailed information about how to fill Thailand visa application form correctly.

When applying for Thailand visa, you need to submit your personal information and details about your visit. Normally the form should be filled up in English. In some cases it can be filled up in local language but you need to reconfirm with Thai embassy or consulate you are going to apply at.

On the top left side of application form you need to attach 2 photographs taken within the last 6 months (3.5 x 4.5 cm). On the top right side tick the type of visa you are applying for - in most cases it will be “Tourist Visa”. Number of Entries Requested should be 1 for a single-entry visa and 2 or more if you are applying for a multiple-entry visa.

Then you need to choose your status (Miss, Mr or Mrs) and tick the correct one. When it comes to your name, you need to write it in capital letters. Provide your first name, middle name and family name . Don’t forget to fill the former name if you have one (e.g. maiden name).

For the nationality , write the name of the country which passport you are using. If you have changed your nationality, provide information about your nationality at birth too. The birth place is the city where you’ve been born. Name your marital status , if you are married, divorced, widowed or single. Provide your date of birth . When it comes to writing dates, we would recommend using date format like in your passport – it will help you to avoid misunderstandings.

Type of travel document should be “passport” as it’s mandatory for entering Thailand. Passport No. should be written clear and exactly the same as on your travel document. Double check it! Date and place of issue can be found on your passport as well as your passport’s expiry date .

At the occupation section you need to specify your present position and the name of employer. If you are unemployed, double check with the embassy or consulate as they might ask you to provide extra documents proving that you have funds for traveling. 

Provide your current address , phone number and e-mail. Permanent address is your address in your home country and needs to be filled-in only if it’s different from your current address.

If you are traveling with minor children who are traveling on the same passport, you need to provide their names, last names and birthdays in the designated area.

Date of arrival in Thailand should be the same as on your flight ticket, especially if you need to submit a proof of traveling with visa application documents. Traveling by is the name of the airline or type of transportation that you will be using - airplane, train, bus, car, ferry or cruise. Flight No. must be filled with the details of your arrival flight and it can be easily found on your flight ticket. If you will be arriving by train or bus, can leave this part empty.

Duration of proposed stay in Thailand shouldn’t be longer than 60 days when applying for Thailand tourist visa. If it’s not your first visit to Thailand, provide the date of previous visit to Thailand . The purpose of visit should be “Tourism”, if you will be applying for Single Entry Tourist Visa or Multiple Entry Tourist Visa .

Countries for which travel document is valid – in most cases it should be “all” unless your passport is really exclusive.

When providing proposed address in Thailand , be sure to give not only the name of your hotel but its address as well. Fill it with details from your accommodation booking confirmation as the officers might check if the details of your booking comply with details provided on the visa application form.

Name and address of local guarantor are the details of a contact person in your home country. It should be your family member or the representative of tour company, if you are traveling with a tour.

Name and Address of Guarantor in Thailand normally can be left blank unless you will be stating that there will be a person who will provide accommodation for you or you will be applying for Non-Immigrant Visa.

Don’t forget to sign Thailand visa application form in two designated areas and write the current date nearby respectively. You would be surprised how many people miss it!

The last part of Thailand Visa application form should be left for official use only and shouldn’t be filled with any information.

Get a Thailand Visa

Proof of Health Insurance

The duration of each stay must be 15 days or less.

Proof of Travel Arrangements

You must provide proof of travel arrangements for the duration of your trip. Details of your intended arrangements must: Include a copy of an itinerary or e-ticket that displays your round trip travel and entry and exit dates for your destination Show the traveler's full name (as printed in his or her passport)

Proof of Sufficient Funds

• Include a copy of your most recent bank statement, showing a minimum balance of $700.00
• Display your full name
• A credit card statement cannot be accepted as proof of sufficient funds

Stays over 15 Days

If you are staying over 15 days, you must provide a letter of approval from the Ministry of Labor. To obtain this letter, the company in Thailand is required to submit Form WP3 at the Office of Foreign Workers Administration, Department of Employment, Ministry of Labor (Tel. +66 2 245 2745), or at the Provincial Employment Office in his or her respective province. Tourist Application Requirements for a Thailand Visa

Visa May Not Be Required

Visa exempt for a stay of up to 30 days. Please keep in mind that if you are staying less than 30 days, you must:

• Hold a passport valid for at least six months with at least one blank visa page
• Hold proof of onward and return flights
• Hold all documents required for the next destination
• Hold proof of sufficient funds relative to your intended length of stay
• Hold documents showing proof of travel purpose (e.g.,support letter, conference registrations, tour itinerary, etc.)
• Confirm with your airline prior to your travel date that boarding will be permitted without a visa

Copy of Passport

The first thing you have to ask yourself before even applying for a Thai tourist visa is do you even need one. Sure, we’ve established that you want to travel to Thailand but you might be a citizen of one of the countries below who do not need to apply for a visa to go to Thailand:

Countries That Can Get a Tourist Visa Upon Arrival in Thailand

• Papua New Guinea
• Saudi Arabia

If you’re a citizen of any of the countries listed above– then congratulations! You don’t really need to apply for a Thai tourist visa as you can simply obtain one upon your entry into the country.

You may also be a citizen of a country with bilateral arrangements with Thailand which means that you don’t need a visa to visit the country as long as you stay within the allowed timeframe (e.g. 30 days, 90 days). To check if your country has such arrangements, click here .

However, if your nationality isn’t on the list of the aforementioned countries, you’re going to have to apply for a tourist visa. When you apply for a visa as a tourist in Thailand you’ll encounter three (3) types of visa- single-entry, multiple-entry, or visa on arrival.

• Single-entry visas are valid for three (3) months and will allow you to travel to Thailand within a set period but you won’t be able to re-enter the country once you leave. 
• Multiple-entry ones are valid for six (6) months and will allow multiple entries while your visa is valid.
• “Visa on Arrival” only applies if you’re a citizen of any of the countries mentioned earlier.

After you determine whether you’re eligible for a Thailand tourist visa and if you already know what kind of visa you need, you should then prepare the documentary requirements for your visa application.

1. Valid Passport

The first document you need is, of course, your passport. It should be valid for up to six (6) months upon your arrival in Thailand.

2. Accomplished Thailand Visa Application Form

Next, you need to prepare and accomplish a Thailand Visa Application. Don’t forget to sign this to make it official.

3. Return Travel TIcket

You also have to have your return travel ticket ready. Thai Immigration authorities want to make sure that you intend to return to your home country within the effectiveness of the visa you are applying for.

4. Pictures for Your Visa

Then, you need to prepare two (2) 3.5cm (width) x 4.5cm (height) pictures. 

You’ll need to make sure that your face is fully visible, that the photo uses a white background, that you have a neutral facial expression, and that no headgear obstructs your face (except for religious purposes).

Lastly, these 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm photos should have been taken within the last six (6) months. 

5. Proof of Accommodation and Bank Statements

You will also need to have proof of accommodation during your stay in Thailand and proof of sufficient funds showing that you pay for your stay in the country. The latter will require you to prepare your bank statements taken within the last six (6) months.

6. Letter of Invitation and Proof of Relationship

If you’ve been invited by family or friends to visit them in Thailand, you also need to attach their letter of invitation plus proof of your relationship with them.

7. Proof of Travel Insurance

Lastly, you need to have proof of travel insurance. It shouldn’t be just any travel insurance either as it needs to have coverage for COVID-19.

Multiple-entry visas will require you to submit two (2) additional documents. First, is proof of employment (like a letter from your employer), and second, any other supporting documents indicating why you need to be issued a multiple-entry visa.

After you’ve prepared all of these documents, you have to prepare some funds for the visa processing fee. Fees will vary based on the local currency and the country from which the application is received.

We do have some estimated visa costs though–it’s 30 USD to 50 USD for single-entry visas while it’s 150 USD to 250 USD for multiple-entry ones. Also, take note that depending on the Thai embassy, you may have to pay via bank transfer or via cash.

Once you’ve prepared all the required documents, you can now coordinate with the Thai Embassy in your country nearest you. You need to contact them to check their business hours, how much their Thai visa fees are, and if you need to set an appointment for your visa application.

After getting all the embassy-related information mentioned above, you can not submit your Thai tourist visa application to the embassy. Based on our experience, you usually have two (2) options to submit your application–either in-person or via mail or post.

Submitting your visa application and documents in person is pretty self-explanatory. However, if you choose to go via post or mail (and if the embassy accepts mail applications), then you have to ensure that you include a self-addressed and pre-paid envelope.

The processing time for your Thailand tourist visa will vary depending on the consulate or the embassy where you submitted your application. We recommend that you wait around five (5) to ten (10) business days from the date they received your application and requirements.

We strongly suggest, though, that since there is some variance between processing times among different embassies, you should submit your application a few weeks before your intended date of travel. 

Also, keep in mind that if you submitted your visa application via mail, you also need to set your expectations based on how long your approved visa may be mailed or delivered to you which will certainly add a few days for mail delivery.

We wouldn’t be surprised if you wanted to stay here in Thailand beyond the approved dates of your visa. The good news is that you can apply for a visa application with the Thailand Immigration Bureau prior to the expiry of your visa.

Most extensions are generally granted for up to 30 days. Based on our observation though, it really depends on the decision of the officials of the Immigration Bureau.

If you’re on a “visa on arrival” (good only for up to 15 days), though, you won’t be able to apply for an extension for your visa, unfortunately. Instead, you need to apply for a Thailand tourist visa which you can do through any diplomatic mission office in Thailand.

You also need to prepare various documents in order to apply for a visa extension. You’ll need your passport, copies of the information page of your passport, your Thai visa together with the immigration stamps (entry and exit), the visa extension form, and a passport-size picture.

Currently, a Thai visa extension application will cost you around 62 USD or roughly 1,900 THB.

You might be wondering why we included extending visas in Thailand. Well, it’s because it’s illegal to overstay without the appropriate visa and because overstaying here carries with it steep fines and penalties which we know you’d best avoid altogether.
