Established in 1962, Shivaji University is situated in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India. The university was established with 5 postgraduate departments and around 34 affiliated colleges. Currently, the number has gone up to 34 postgraduate departments and around 293 affiliated colleges. Shivaji University provides various courses in four major sectors such as Commerce and Management, Humanities , Science and Technology and Interdisciplinary Studies.

Besides this, the university also provides admission in Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Master in Philosophy (M.Phil) programs. This article will provide all the information required for admission to these two courses.

Admission to Shivaji University is done on the basis of common entrance test, viva-voice/ common interview conducted by Shivaji University, Kolhapur. Seat allocation will be divided into two categories, home and other university categories. Candidates need to fulfil the eligibility criteria for M.Phil and PhD degrees decided by Shivaji University in order to get admission.

• Candidates must have passed master degree program or any a professional degree equivalent to a master degree program with a minimum of 55% aggregate or grade equivalent to ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale.
• Candidates belonging from any of reserved categories(SC/ ST) need to score at least 50% aggregate in the master degree program in relevant discipline.
• Candidates must have passed M. Phil course at Shivaji University with at least 55% aggregate or grade equivalent to ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale to be eligible for admission in PhD degree.
• If a candidate's M.Phil dissertation has been assessed and the viva is pending, the candidate having the M.Phil degree from Shivaji University or any other degree equivalent to the M.Phil degree of an Indian institution or from a foreign institute/university are eligible for PhD admissions.

How to Apply for Shivaji University M. Phil. and PhD Admissions 2019-20?

Candidates who wish to take admission in any of these two programs need to follow the detailed application process given below to fill the application form:

• Candidates will have to fill the application form available online on the official website latest by August 31, 2019.
• Candidates will then have to fill the mandatory fields available on the application form.
• Once done, candidates may then take a print out of the payment slip as proof.
• The entrance test fee decided by the university is Rs.850 for open category candidates while the fee for the reserved categories is Rs. 600. The fee needs to be submitted online.
• If any candidate needs to apply for both the programs, he/she will have to submit a separate application fee for both programs.

The registration fee for the entrance test conducted for both M.Phil and PhD programs is mentioned below:

Selection for both the programs will be done on the basis of entrance test conducted by the University. The entrance test will be conducted for 2 hours with 50 questions from Research Methodology and 50 questions from the concerned subject. The test will be conducted at three centres namely (i) Shivaji University, Kolhapur (ii) Yashwantrao Chavan Institute of Science, Satara (iii) Smt. Mathubai Garware Kanya Mahavidyalaya, Sangli.

(Qualification marks for the entrance test is 50% for candidates from open categories and 45% marks for candidates from reserved categories. There will be no negative marks for incorrect responses/answers). Apart from this, the university will further conduct a personal interview/ viva voice. Only candidates who qualified the first round will be called for the second round. The final selection will be done on the basis of the overall performance of the candidate in the entrance test, viva voice/ personal interview.

Seat Allocation

Seat allocation will be divided between two categories, Home university students and other categories. Candidates who have cleared the master degree from Shivaji University will fall in the home university category while the remaining candidates will fall in other categories. Seats will be divided in the 90:10 ratio. Reservation will be applicable for 90% quota and 10% quota.

Candidates need to submit the course fee once selected. The fee must be submitted before the deadline or the seat will be transferred to some other candidates. The table below has information about the fee.

Note : The fee structure can be changed by the university without any prior notice.

Admission to Shivaji University will be undertaken as per the University Grants Commission. Candidates can go through all the information provided above and then send an offline copy of the filled application to the university to be eligible for the selection round.

Shivaji University, Kolhapur, Maharashtra, has invited applications for the M. Phil. and Ph.D. Admissions, 2019-2020.

Seats are offered under Home category in General. However, for some subjects, there are seats for other University category also. Those who have obtained the qualifying degree of Shivaji University will be treated as Home University student. Seats are distributed under Home and Other University categories in the ratio 90: 10. Reservation rules shall be applicable to 90% quota and 10% quota, separately. Details of the subjects offered and seats available are given at the ‘Intake capacity’ at http://www.unishivaji.ac.in/admission/MPhil-PhD-Admission-2019-20

Eligibility: For admission to M.Phil and Ph.D, applicant should have a recognised Master's degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s Degree by Shivaji University or by statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution. A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, will be allowed for those belonging to reserved categories (SC/ST/VJNT/OBC/SEBC/EWS) and/or Differently-abled candidates as per policies of the Government prescribed from time to time, or for those who had obtained their Master's degree prior to 19th September, 1991. The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures.

Those who have cleared the M.Phil course work (Theory Examination) of Shivaji University with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) shall be eligible to proceed to do research work leading to the Ph. D. Degree in Shivaji University in an integrated programme, provided the candidate joins such programme without any break.

A person whose M.Phil dissertation has been evaluated and the viva voce is pending; those possessing a M.Phil. Degree of Shivaji University, Kolhapur or any other Statutory University or Degree considered equivalent to M.Phil Degree of an Indian institution or from a foreign educational institution are also eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme.

Selection: Admissions for M.Phil./Ph.D. programmes (except for foreign candidates/ candidates admitted through QIP Research Centre of AICTE, shall be through a Common Entrance Test and Interview/Viva-Voce conducted by Shivaji University, Kolhapur.

Entrance Test: Selection to the Programmes will be based on an Entrance Test of 2 hours duration carrying 100 marks, with 50 multiple choices questions of two marks each from Research Methodology (50% questions) and from the concerned subject (50%). There is no negative marking for wrong answers. Details of syllabus for the Entrance Test shall be made available on University Website.

Entrance Examination will be held on 18.9.2019, 19.9.2019 and 20.9.2019 at (i) Shivaji University, Kolhapur (ii) Yashwantrao Chavan Institute of Science, Satara (iii) Smt. Mathubai Garware Kanya Mahavidyalaya, Sangli. Detailed time table and Hall Ticket downloading will be made available through university website in due course of time.

An applicant has to score 50% marks to qualify in the Entrance test. A relaxation of 5% of marks (from 50% to 45%) will be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/VJ-NT (Non- Creamy layers)/OBC (Non- Creamy layers)/ SEBC (Non-creamy Layers)/EWS / Differently-abled category. Those who qualify in entrance test will be called for interview/ viva-voce.

Application: Applications can be submitted online at http://www.unishivaji.ac.in/admission/MPhil-PhD-Admission-2019-20 latest by 6 p.m on 31.8.2019. After submission, applicant may take a print out of the online application and retain the same for his / her personal information / records. Applicant is not required to submit hard copy of online application to University.

The Fee for Entrance Test of M.Phil/Ph.D will be Rs. 850/- for open category candidate and Rs. 600/- for reserved category candidates, to be paid through Online Payment Gateway facility. Those who wish to appear for entrance test in more than one subject, have to fill separate application form for each subject, provided he/she fulfills the eligibility criteria and also remit the fee separately for each subject.

• The application form for Shivaji University Ph.D Admission 2024 will be available in online mode only.
• The entrance examination fee for each subject is INR 200.
• The fee can be submitted in the form of a Demand Draft.
• Prepare the DD drawn in favor of Finance and Accounts Officer, Shivaji University, Kolhapur.
• Submit the filled-in application form along with the Demand Draft to the concerned department either by post/courier or by the person.
• Candidates can also avail the copy of course directory by paying a sum of INR 100 to the University in form of cash or Demand Draft.
