The resources are thorough, and reviewers state that Chegg answers homework questions quickly and accurately no matter when you submit them.  

Chegg also offers textbook rentals for students who need access to textbooks outside of their classroom. Finally, Chegg offers Internship and Career Advice for students who are preparing to graduate and may need a little extra help with the transition out of high school. 

Another great feature Chegg provides is a selection of free articles geared towards helping with general life skills, like coping with stress and saving money. Chegg’s learning modules are comprehensive, and they feature solutions to the problems in tons of different textbooks in a wide variety of subjects. 

Runner Up: Bartleby offers basically the same services as Chegg for $14.99 per month. The reason it didn’t rank as the best is based on customer reviews that say user questions aren’t answered quite as quickly on this site as on Chegg. Otherwise, this is also a solid choice!

Best Site for Math Homework Help: Photomath

• Price: Free (or $59.99 per year for premium services) 
• Best for: Explaining solutions to math problems

This site allows you to t ake a picture of a math problem, and instantly pulls up a step-by-step solution, as well as a detailed explanation of the concept. Photomath also includes animated videos that break down mathematical concepts to help you better understand and remember them. 

The basic service is free, but for an additional fee you can get extra study tools and learn additional strategies for solving common math problems.

Runner Up: KhanAcademy offers in-depth tutorials that cover complex math topics for free, but you won’t get the same tailored help (and answers!) that Photomath offers. 

Best Site for English Homework Help: Princeton Review Academic Tutoring

• Price: $40 to $153 per month, depending on how many hours of tutoring you want 
• Best for: Comprehensive and personalized reading and writing help 

While sites like Grammarly and Sparknotes help you by either proofreading what you write via an algorithm or providing book summaries, Princeton Review’s tutors provide in-depth help with vocabulary, literature, essay writing and development, proofreading, and reading comprehension. This is by far the most expensive homework site on this list, so you’ll need to really think about what you need out of a homework help website before you commit. One added benefit is that the subscription covers over 80 other subjects, including AP classes, which can make it a good value if you need lots of help!  

Best Site for STEM Homework Help: Studypool

• Best for: Science homework help
• Price: Varies; you’ll pay for each question you submit

When it comes to science homework help, there aren’t a ton of great resources out there. The best of the bunch is Studypool, and while it has great reviews, there are some downsides as well. 

Let’s start with the good stuff. Studypool offers an interesting twist on the homework help formula. After you create a free account, you can submit your homework help questions, and tutors will submit bids to answer your questions. You’ll be able to select the tutor–and price point–that works for you, then you’ll pay to have your homework question answered. You can also pay a small fee to access notes, lectures, and other documents that top tutors have uploaded. 

The downside to Studypool is that the pricing is not transparent . There’s no way to plan for how much your homework help will cost, especially if you have lots of questions! Additionally, it’s not clear how tutors are selected, so you’ll need to be cautious when you choose who you’d like to answer your homework questions.  

What Are the Pros and Cons of Using Homework Help Sites?

Homework help websites can be a great resource if you’re struggling in a subject, or even if you just want to make sure that you’re really learning and understanding topics and ideas that you’re interested in. But, there are some possible drawbacks if you don’t use these sites responsibly.

This is a big one! Getting outside help with your studies can improve your understanding of concepts that you’re learning, which translates into better grades when you take tests or write essays. 

Remember: homework is designed to help reinforce the concepts you learned in class. If you just get easy answers without learning the material behind the problems, you may not have the tools you need to be successful on your class exams…or even standardized tests you’ll need to take for college.

One of the main reasons that online homework help is appealing is because it’s flexible and convenient. You don’t have to go to a specific tutoring center while they’re open or stay after school to speak with your teacher. Now, let’s take a look at the drawbacks of online homework help. 

#1: Unreliable Info

This can be a real problem. In addition to all the really good homework help sites, there are a whole lot of disreputable or unreliable sites out there. The fact of the matter is that some homework help sites don’t necessarily hire people who are experts in the subjects they’re talking about. In those cases, you may not be getting the accurate, up-to-date, and thorough information you need.

Additionally, even the great sites may not be able to answer all of your homework questions. This is especially true if the site uses an algorithm or chatbot to help students…or if you’re enrolled in an advanced or college-level course. In these cases, working with your teacher or school-provided tutors are probably your best option. 

#2: No Clarification

This depends on the service you use, of course. But the majority of them provide free or low-cost help through pre-recorded videos. Watching videos or reading info online can definitely help you with your homework… but you can’t ask questions or get immediate feedback if you need it .

#3: Potential For Scamming 

Like we mentioned earlier, there are a lot of homework help websites out there, and lots of them are scams. The review comments we read covered everything from outdated or wrong information, to misleading claims about the help provided, to not allowing people to cancel their service after signing up. 

No matter which site you choose to use, make sure you research and read reviews before you sign up–especially if it’s a paid service! 

When Does “Help” Become “Cheating”?

Admittedly, whether using homework help websites constitutes cheating is a bit of a grey area. For instance, is it “help” when a friend reads your essay for history class and corrects your grammar, or is it “cheating”? The truth is, not everyone agrees on when “help” crosses the line into “cheating .” When in doubt, it can be a good idea to check with your teacher to see what they think about a particular type of help you want to get. 

That said, a general rule of thumb to keep in mind is to make sure that the assignment you turn in for credit is authentically yours . It needs to demonstrate your own thoughts and your own current abilities. Remember: the point of every homework assignment is to 1) help you learn something, and 2) show what you’ve learned. 

So if a service answers questions or writes essays for you, there’s a good chance using it constitutes cheating. 

Here’s an example that might help clarify the difference for you. Brainstorming essay ideas with others or looking online for inspiration is “help” as long as you write the essay yourself. Having someone read it and give you feedback about what you need to change is also help, provided you’re the one that makes the changes later. 

But copying all or part of an essay you find online or having someone write (or rewrite) the whole thing for you would be “cheating.” The same is true for other subjects. Ultimately, if you’re not generating your own work or your own answers, it’s probably cheating.

Before you decide which site or sites you’re going to use for homework help, y ou should figure out what kind of learning style works for you the most. Are you a visual learner? Then choose a site that uses lots of videos to help explain concepts. If you know you learn best by actually doing tasks, choose a site that provides lots of practice exercises.

Tip 2: Determine Which Subjects You Need Help With

Just because a homework help site is good overall doesn’t mean that it’s equally good for every subject. If you only need help in math, choose a site that specializes in that area. But if history is where you’re struggling, a site that specializes in math won’t be much help. So make sure to choose a site that you know provides high-quality help in the areas you need it most.

Homework can often feel stressful and boring. Unfortunately, if you're in school it's a part of life. If you consistently dread doing homework, you should look into ways you can enjoy the task. This way, school will be more pleasant for you overall. You can start with subjects that interest you, give yourself breaks and rewards, and work on changing your mentality regarding homework in general.

Planning Homework Time

• It may help to take a few days to measure your natural ebb and flow of energy. You may find that, during late afternoon, you feel a sudden slump in energy. However, as it gets closer to the evening hours, you may suddenly have a boost in energy. Therefore, instead of doing homework after school, try to do your homework after dinner each night.
• You'll feel happier and more productive if you're studying during a time when you're experiencing a peak in energy. Homework will seem to go by faster, and you will not struggle as much to concentrate.

• You can alternate between subjects you like and dislike. This can help give you motivation while moving through subjects that bore you. For example, if you love science but hate history, do half of your science assignment, then half of your history one, and then return to science.

• Even small changes can make homework time more enjoyable. You could, for example, move your desk near the window. Natural light may lead to a more calming environment, and you can occasionally look up and enjoy the view.
• You can also think about studying outside the house. If you love hanging out at a local coffee shop, try doing your homework there. You can get a latte or a coffee as a treat as you move through your homework.

• You may have to experiment with different songs. Some songs may be distracting. If a song makes you want to get up and dance, for example, it may not the best to include on a homework playlist, as you will lose focus in your homework. Some people find that classical music is very helpful when studying.
• Not everyone can concentrate with music in the background. If you find music is making it harder for you to study, you may want to nix the playlists and focus on other means to enjoy your homework.

Giving Yourself Motivation

• Good examples of what to do during your breaks are taking walks, meditating, stretching, or getting yourself a snack.
• Many people find it's most effective to work in short spurts. You may want to plan to work in half hour to 45-minute intervals, for example, and then take a 5 to 10-minute break.
• Be careful with breaks, however. Make sure you time your breaks wisely so they don't end up running over. If you allow yourself a 10 minute Facebook break every 40 minutes, set a timer on your phone to make sure you do not end up procrastinating on social media for hours.

• Be careful who you include in a study group. While you want to be able to enjoy yourself, you also want to get work done. Choose people who are serious enough students that you won't end up distracted all night.
• Together as a group, you can brainstorm ways to have fun. For example, you can agree you'll do homework in silence for 40 minutes and then take a 15 minute break to chat.

• Be careful, however, not to do sloppy work. If you're trying to break a record, you may speed through your homework. Strive to work efficiently rather than quickly.
• Talk to your parents to see how the topic your studying may affect them in the present day.
• Be careful not to get distracted in this extra research or you’ll lose focus on your homework. Set a timer for yourself so you don’t spend too much time doing it.

Changing Your Mindset About Learning

• It can help to make a to-do list. Your studies are items you can check off the list, allowing you to relax and unwind. You'll also feel a sense of achievement with each item you check off your list.
• Stop and think about what you've accomplished when you finish your homework. Try to feel proud of yourself for getting your work done. You'll learn to work towards this sense of accomplishment in the future.

• If you dislike your writing assignments, pause and consider how good writing skills can help you get a job. If you dislike your computer class, try to keep in mind that basic computer skills will be important in college and the working world.

Based on a recent spate of articles on homework, it’s clear that the homework wars -- how much? how often? -- are still topic of big interest to both parents and teachers. Some teachers hate to give homework; others see it as a vital necessity. But according to some research presented by Annie Murphy Paul, the question isn’t how much, but whether the homework teachers do give actually advances learning.

“A recent study, published in the Economics of Education Review,” Paul wrote in “How Can We Make Homework Worthwhile?” , “reports that homework in science, English and history has ‘little to no impact’ on student test scores. (The authors did note a positive effect for math homework.) Enriching children’s classroom learning requires making homework not shorter or longer, but smarter.” Paul goes on to describe specific practices, like spaced repetition (in which information is presented and repeated spaced out over time), retrieval practice (testing or quizzing not for assessment, but to reinforce material learned), and cognitive disfluency (“desirable difficulties” used to make learning stick) -- all memory/retrieval techniques that may help homework move beyond busy work and advance real learning.

But to get those elements to work, said Fires in the Mind author and speaker Kathleen Cushman, students must be motivated to do their homework in the first place. One example Cushman gave was creating a project so interesting and involved, students naturally wanted to keep working on it after the bell rang. She pointed to a chapter in the book where she describes a particular motivation for some high school students she interviewed, under the heading “Homework We Actually Want to Do”:

“Christina and Nicholas both remembered a global studies unit on the French Revolution in which students acted out a courtroom trial of the king and queen. The project brought even routine homework assignments to life, they said.

“I was the queen. So of course I wanted to do my homework all the time, so I could know the facts of what happened and what didn’t happen, know what I wanted to say when someone tried to say I did this or that thing. I could say, ‘Oh no, I didn’t!’ - because I’d read my homework,” said Christina.

Christina was using a form of retrieval practice -- but because it was so much fun to be the queen, she only knew she wanted to stay in character. The queen had to study the information to get it right.

Another way teachers can take a good, hard look at homework practices, said Cushman, is to ask themselves a few vital questions: “Does this homework ask each student to practice something that the student hasn’t yet mastered? Does the student clearly see its purpose? When students are asked to repeat or rehearse something, does it require them to focus? Or can they do it without really paying attention?” If the homework meets these criteria, she said, then it falls into the desirable realm of “deliberate practice .”

Dan Bisaccio, former high school science teacher and now Director of Science Education at Brown University, said that after years of experience giving homework to high school students, he now “preaches” to his future teachers: “Homework should be practice and extensions of what happens in class and should not be ‘new learning,’” he said. “That is, students [shouldn’t be] having to teach themselves new content or skills.”

He said he agreed with Cushman that motivation is key, and tried to design homework that kept students interested. “Teachers need to clue into what motivates their students, giving them something that they really want to complete, and complete well.” One assignment Bisaccio used, called an “Experience Map,” asked students to create a map of their experiences after a field study or other important project - a technique employing both retrieval practice and the somewhat trickier interleaving, a “desirable difficulty” in which problems of different types are presented in one assignment, making students think harder to come up with solutions and answers.

“We ‘map’ mentally and physically each day. It helps to keep us orientated through our frenzied sun-up to sun-down daily experiences,” reads the assignment. Directions are to draw a field experience map, including -- with regard to the class -- where students have been, what they have done, new challenges, and insights. Special suggestions for drawing include “a place of danger, a favorite place, a place of power, a place with a secret.” Students are also called upon to map the places where they learned the most, where they were challenged the most, and where the funniest experience happened.

In addition, Bisaccio asked students to write what had challenged them most as a learner, what had stretched their limits most -- meant to be reflections just for students themselves, and asked to be kept on the back of the map. “What they wrote on the back was not shared with others,” he said. Once the assignment was completed, maps were posted to form a class atlas of what they had learned.

That's correct. You do homework. There are certain types of homework you can make, for example you can make a model for your homework, but the correct phrase is " do your homework"  

But why A) is incorrect?  

We don't use "make" in this way in English, although many languages do. English often uses "do" where other languages use "make."

The point I was trying to make, while still avoiding the use of other languages (this being English Only), is that this is an understandable confusion. Many languages would use words that would literally translate to "I make my homework" where we say "I do my homework." As tomy8s and Dimcl have said, "make" implies creation of something in this context. The teacher makes an exercise paper for the students by creating the exercises. The students do the exercises.

In English, work of all kind is done , and not made . This includes the simple form "work", and any combined form built on it: The carpenters did their work skillfully. Students should do their schoolwork carefully. As Jane does her housework , she always listens to music on the radio. You must do your homework before you can go play.

No, you don't make exercises, in the same way that you don't make homework. I did the exercises... I finished/completed/solved the exercises.... but not 'made'.

Then if I'm a professional who create exercises to examinations, I might say for example 'I made some exercises for the English examination'.  

No, still not 'made'. The exam compiler might say, speaking to another examiner, 'I did these exercises'. A better choice is 'composed' or 'compiled'.

I think that Daffyduck has the right idea: the only person who makes the exercises is their creator (a teacher or an examiner). The really strange thing is not the distinction between make and do , which other languages than English seem to lack. It's the fact that we make physical objects, but not (usually) intellectual ones. Poets and dramatists don't usually talk about making a poem or a play, like they did in the 16th century. So we have three words: You create or compose an intellectual work (exercises for the English examination, novel, symphony, computer program...). You make a physical object (bookcase, garden, knitted pullover...). You make abstractions (love, noise, trouble, work for other people to do...). You do things created by others (work, crossword puzzles, tasks, translations...).

Hey guys, I am new here. I know this thread is old, but do people actually understand if I say I make the homework? I know its wrong but can i compare it to saying "I am creating my homework."? So it sounds wrong but everybody does know I do my homework, thats what I mean? Or wouldnt people understandit in any way? So its a bad bad mistake nobody gets or a minor mistake which can be understood?

ANd do you actually replace verbs with make? In germany we often do this, how is it in english. Can you say I make a cake, instead of bake, I make dinner, instead of cook, etc.? And if it is wrong, is it again understandable even though people recognize the msitake?

Many teachers would use "prepare" in this context to mean create, or compile, or compose. "I've prepared an exercise on ..."

This approach will work in most cases but pay attention that this should not be counterproductive as the child will be busy eating and not studying.

"For non-cash donations, keep a list of donated items and their estimated value," he said.

Moore said to keep a folder within your main tax folder for health care transactions.

If you're a student borrower who resumed payments on your college loans in 2023, you can deduct up to $2,500 in interest. Form 1098-E has the information you need to claim the deduction.

"Independent contractors and self-employed individuals should use a credit card for work," he said.

Have a Dedicated Bank Account for Work Expenses

Moore said it's also critical for business owners and contractors to keep a separate bank account for work.

"This way bookkeeping is streamlined, and there's no commingling of funds, which could make you more susceptible to an audit," he said.

Keep Everything for at Least 3 Years After You File

The moment you file, you might want to throw everything away and be done with it. Don't.

"The IRS can and will audit individuals for years passed," said Moore. "Keep your folders intact for at least 3 years after your original filing date to avoid any issues."

Start by Getting Out Last Year's Returns

An audit is fairly unlikely, but you'll need prior-year returns if you need to file an amended return or claim a missed refund -- and having them on hand can make it easier to complete this year's taxes, too.

"Check your prior year's tax filings for reference," said Johan Garcia, CPA, owner and sole author of After Tax Cash and principal of JG CPA & Advisory. "However, this might change, as you could have income from different sources and deductions, too."

Start Early

The easiest way to make tax season as painless as possible is to not procrastinate. You have until April 15, but the earlier you get started, the better.

"Begin gathering your tax documents well before the deadline," said Garcia.

The best way to know if you have all applicable forms is to anticipate their arrival and cross them off a pre-made list when they arrive.

"Download a checklist and collect all necessary forms that you might need to file," said Garcia.

Organize Receipts and Documentation Before You Begin

Don't start inputting information into your tax software platform or visit your CPA until you've gathered and organized all receipts and other proof of expenditures that could lower your tax bill.

"Keep records of all expenses that could qualify for deductions -- costs, dates, vendors, etc.," said Garcia.

Ditch the Paper

The old way of gathering physical paper receipts and organizing them in a folder is a recipe for unforced errors.

"Ideally, use digital apps like Excel to categorize receipts for home office expenses, education costs, medical expenses, charitable donations and others," said Garcia.

Learn About Lesser-Known Deductions

Garcia said to familiarize yourself with common deductions that some people miss, including those involving state and local taxes.

"For example, SALT up to $10,000, mortgage interest, medical expenses exceeding 7.5% of your adjusted gross income and charitable contributions up to 60% of your adjusted gross income," he said.

Investigate All Available Credits Before You Start

Just like deductions, credits can lower your taxable income. Get every dollar coming to you by researching them first, because they change every year.

"Look for credits such as energy-efficient credits, Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit and education credits," said Garcia.

Know the Difference Between Refundable and Nonrefundable Credits

All credits fall into one of two categories, and knowing the difference can help you avoid unpleasant surprises.

"Some credits are refundable, meaning they can increase your refund if they exceed your tax liability," said Garcia.

Others are nonrefundable, which means they can reduce your bill down to zero, but you don't keep any that might be left over.

"They just offset your tax liability," said Garcia.

Do Your Homework on Potentially Deductible Major Purchases

The government offers credits for many eco-friendly major appliances, vehicles, building materials, etc., but they apply only to certain models. Find out if yours qualifies before you file to avoid surprises.

"If you purchased electric or energy-efficient equipment, review your receipts and check with the EnergyStar website to see if there's a possible tax credit available," said Garcia.

Know and Report All Income Sources

One of the easiest ways to complicate your taxes is to underreport your income, which can come in many different forms beyond just your paycheck.

"Ensure you report all types of income, including ordinary income like wages and salaries, capital gains and any retirement distributions or other related income," said Garcia. "Check with your income providers if any tax forms are issued."

Don't Forget Earned Interest

According to Forbes, many people make the common mistake of forgetting to report earnings from interest-bearing cash accounts, like savings accounts . Don't omit this income source, which you're required to report to the IRS.

Report Unemployment Compensation

If you received unemployment benefits in 2023, it's important to know your reporting obligations. Review IRS Topic No. 418 , which explains the tax treatment of unemployment compensation according to your unique circumstance.

If You Own a Business, Take Every Deduction

Entrepreneurs should read the IRS's Guide to Business Expense Resources , which expands on the recently discontinued Publication 535.

Prepare To Reconcile Health Insurance Credits

If you received a premium tax credit for a Marketplace health insurance plan, make sure you have Form 8692 to reconcile the amount paid in advance with the credit you compute when you file.

Don't Wait for Form 1099-K for P2P Payments

It's easy to think of the IRS as the enemy during tax time, but the agency and its many taxpayer-friendly services and tools can actually be your best friend.

The agency states, "IRS.gov is available around-the-clock and it's the fastest way to get assistance. Millions of people use IRS.gov for filing and paying taxes, getting information about their accounts or answers to tax questions. The IRS Services Guide outlines the many ways taxpayers can get help from the IRS."

Create or Revisit Your IRS Account

If you haven't already, start by signing up for a free account at IRS.gov. Your account will be your home base for tax season and show you all your pertinent information -- from this year and years past -- in one place, with options for making payments and setting up payment plans. If you already have an account, check in with it and brush up before you file.

Download IRS2Go

Available in both English and Spanish, the IRS's free app lets you sign up for helpful tax tips,  check your refund status, find free tax prep assistance, make a payment and more.

File Electronically

The IRS says about 94% of taxpayers now file electronically, and if you're among the 6% still putting pencil to paper before sending your returns off via snail mail, moving into the digital age is the single best way to make your taxes easier. The IRS says e-filing is faster, simpler, more accurate, more secure and ensures a faster acceptance and refund.

Sign Up for Direct Deposit

The IRS says eight out of 10 taxpayers choose direct deposit instead of getting a check in the mail. The agency uses the same electronic transfer system that sends VA and Social Security benefits and wants all taxpayers to know that direct deposit is faster, safer and more accurate than receiving your refund through a check.

Use the Interactive Tax Assistant

The IRS's Interactive Tax Assistant tool can answer many important questions about filing according to your unique situation, including whether you have to file a return, who you can claim as a dependent, if you're eligible for a credit or if you can deduct an expense.

Use IRS Calculators

The IRS offers handy calculators to help you get your numbers right before you file. The Sales Tax Deduction Calculator, for example, can help those who itemize determine how much state and local general sales tax they can claim.

See If You're Eligible for IRS FreeFile

According to CNBC, seven in 10 taxpayers are eligible for the IRS's FreeFile service, but only 2% take advantage of the no-cost program.

FreeFile, which is open to taxpayers with AGIs of $79,000 or less, partners with trusted third-party online preparation companies to e-file your returns for free.

Look Into FreeFile Even If You Have Complicated Returns

FreeFile can now handle even complex returns for those who meet the income threshold. You can qualify even if you have self-employment income, gig income, hobby income or trade income.

In 2024, the IRS launched a pilot program for a new tool called Direct File. Enrollment is open but limited, but there are many potential benefits for those who qualify.

Research Alternative Filing Software

If you aren't eligible for FreeFile, the experts said to research alternative software platforms as one of the smaller steps you create upon breaking down the big task of filing.

More than a dozen providers are competing for your business, most of which offer several price tiers for categories like self-employed people, investors and business owners. If you wait until the last minute and pick randomly, your procrastination could cost you dozens or even hundreds of dollars.

Using software to self-file is relatively easy and simple, but according to CNN, it probably makes sense to hire a professional tax preparer if you experienced major life changes in the previous tax year. That includes things like getting married or divorced, launching a business or retiring.

If you can handle most of your returns alone but want a professional on hand to answer questions and assist with complex sections, Forbes recommends choosing a hybrid DIY/full-service software format, which platforms like TurboTax offer as a happy medium.

Or Just Find an Authorized e-File Provider

Authorized e-file providers are tax professionals who can prepare and file tax returns through the IRS electronic filing program. The IRS maintains a database that lets you find one near you by entering your state and zip code.

Plan To Pay by April 15th Even If You Delay Filing

The IRS grants six-month extensions that let you file as late as Oct. 15, but you still have to pay on time. Even if you're granted a filing extension, remember that you have to settle your bill by Tax Day in April, unless you work out a payment plan.

How fantasy players prepare for their rookie drafts can make or break their team for the next several years. The last thing you want to do is “wing it” or assume anything, so here are five helpful tips to help you crush your 2024 dynasty rookie drafts.

How to Prepare for Your Rookie Draft (2024)

Know your league’s draft rules.

First and foremost, you need to know how the rookie draft works. If you don’t know the rules, check the league’s settings or ask the commissioner. It seems obvious, but every year, one person in every league is unaware of some rule and looks like a fool. Don’t be that guy and give your league mates an advantage.

Make sure you’re aware of the timer. Is it a slow or fast draft? Most leagues are slow drafts with an eight-hour or longer clock for each pick. However, that’s not the case in all leagues. Also, make sure the picks are linear and not a snake. Rookie drafts should never be linear.

Do you know how many rounds are in your rookie draft? Most rookie drafts are four or five rounds. Depending on the league size and roster construction, your draft could be as little as three rounds or up to 12. If your league has IDP players, your rookie draft will likely be six or more rounds. More importantly, make sure you can trade during the draft. The best time to make trades is during the rookie draft, as it gives you a chance to improve your roster in multiple ways.

Evaluate Your Team & Draft Capital

What kind of team do you have? Is it a contender or a rebuilding squad? Hopefully, it’s not a team barely good enough to make the playoffs but not good enough to win the title. More importantly, what kind of draft capital do you have?

Contending teams with an early draft pick will want to consider trading away the selection for a win-now veteran. The rookie might take a year or so to make an impact. They could also be a complete bust and off your roster in three years. Instead, consider trading a top draft pick for a young veteran with some success in the NFL. As great as everyone expects Caleb Williams to be, contending teams should flip the 1.01 pick for a young quarterback like Jordan Love and additional draft capital.

Meanwhile, rebuilding teams should acquire as much draft capital as possible, even if you must trade away veterans with something left in the tank. Unless the veterans have several high-end production years left in their careers, it’s time to trade them away. Remember the Bill Belichick way — it’s better to trade away a player a year early than a year too late.

Do Your Homework

You don’t take the most important test of your life without studying. That also applies to your rookie drafts. Ideally, you would have the time to watch every game in every prospect’s college career. Yet, no one has that much time, especially when they aren’t getting paid to scout prospects. However, the more you can watch, the better.

Your own opinion on prospects is the most important. While it’s ideal to do your own research, don’t just watch short highlight reels on YouTube. You should see the good and bad moments with the rookie class. If you only see the highlight plays, you won’t have a solid opinion of the prospect.

Furthermore, don’t limit yourself to the top guys in the draft class. The players who will get drafted in the later rounds of your rookie draft could become league winners, ask anyone who picked Puka Nacua in the fourth or fifth round last year.

If you don’t have the time to watch the prospects yourself or only get to watch the top few players, find a group of experts you trust. However, don’t only pick fantasy football experts. You want a combination of fantasy football, NFL Draft and college football experts. That way, you can get opinions from three different types of sources. The more opinions you can get, the better, but remember, no one is perfect. Even the best of the best will be wrong roughly half the time.

Explore the Trade Market

Trading during the rookie draft is always fun. Yet, trading before the draft starts is one of the best times to make a deal. Many fantasy players overvalue draft picks and undervalue veterans the closer we get to the NFL Draft. Contending teams should take advantage of their mindset and make trades to add players to help them win this upcoming season.

However, even contending teams should have some draft picks every year. While you want to trade picks away to help you win now, having middle or later-round selections to take dart throw shots on players is critical. Had you spent a mid-round selection on Tank Dell or Puka Nacua last year, that could have been the difference between winning the championship or coming in third place.

It’s never too early to start trade negotiations. Have trade talks about moving up or down during the draft and potential blockbuster deals. The weeks leading up to the draft are the ideal time to make trades.

Prepare for the Rookie Draft

Practice makes perfect, right? The best way to prepare for your rookie draft is to do mock drafts. However, don’t just use a simulator . Instead, do it the old-fashioned way with pen and paper. Look at the teams picking ahead of you in the draft and determine their needs. Work your way through every potential scenario for the draft.

If the team picking at 1.01 selects Caleb Williams and the team picking at 1.02 takes Jayden Daniels , what will you do with the 1.03 pick? Should you take Marvin Harrison Jr. despite having a massive need at quarterback? Or do you keep the quarterback run going and select Drake Maye ?

Your league mates are unlikely to tell you which players they plan on drafting or what trade talks they have had with other teams. However, you ideally want to have conversations with every other team in your league. You can get an idea of what positions they are targeting or what type of trades they are trying to put together. Furthermore, having trade talks with your league mates is an excellent way to get the ball moving on draft-day deals and moves centered around future rookie draft picks.

It is human nature to get excited about the here and now. Therefore, the best time to acquire future rookie picks is during the draft. If you offer your 2.03 pick to a team for their 2025 first-round pick today, it will likely get rejected. However, that offer might get accepted during the rookie draft when your league mate is desperate to trade up for a particular prospect.

It’s also the time to trade for veterans for the same reason. The rookie draft is about adding youth to your roster. However, don’t be shortsighted. Consider all options before you pick, especially this year. Last year’s rookie class produced several later-round players who had impressive seasons. Unfortunately, that won’t happen every year. If someone is willing to trade you a young enough veteran you feel can rebound in 2024 (like Diontae Johnson ) for a mid-round pick or two, make the deal.

Bored of using ChatGPT for programming, chatting, and learning? It's time to start using it for gaming instead.

ChatGPT has a wealth of games in its custom GPT store, covering everything from, RPGs and Dungeons and Dragons-style adventures, classic retro games, card games, quizzes, mysteries, and so much more.

1. Murder Mystery Mayhem

Let's start with one of the top-rated games on ChatGPT's custom GPT store. Murder Mystery Mayhem is a procedurally generated game where you play the role of a detective in the year 1925.

As with all good investigations, Murder Mystery Mayhem begins by setting the scene, including an image of the scene and the six suspects, along with names, roles, and potential interview points. You then begin questioning each suspect, attempting to find holes in their story, check alibis, and uncover crucial evidence.

The story isn't completely linear, but you don't have much room to develop your detective's character. I wrote that "I was pacing the room, looking at each suspect in turn, trying to detect a tell, anger, or worry," but was informed that was outside the boundaries of the game by the Officer (the police officer present at the investigation with you).

Once you finger your suspect, you call in the Officer to make the arrest. Collar the wrong perp, and the game is over, and you begin with a new mystery.

Murder Mystery Mayhem is good fun, with the location and murderer changing round by round, and each suspect has new alibis and evidence to reveal. The changes keep it feeling fresh, and one game played through to the end can keep you engaged and seeking the truth for well over an hour. (Don't forget, you don't have to play it all at once!)

2. Oregon Trail

Dying of dysentery has become a longstanding meme from the original Oregon Trail game, but you can now relive that horrifying experience in ChatGPT. The Oregan Trail custom GPT brings one of the first edu-games (not the first, mind!) to ChatGPT... where you can suffer through the wilderness all over again.

You begin as the Oregon Trail does: choosing your character and buying supplies, then heading out into the wilderness. Most of your input to the game is choosing between the numbered options, such as where to head next, whether to buy more supplies, explore a new area, hunt for supplies, talk to the locals, look at the map, and so on.

It's a basic version of the classic game, but it's engaging enough. The custom GPT's scripting doesn't allow you to go off-piste and, say, rob the local convenience store for supplies (nor did the original), but it's certainly a lot easier without so many setbacks constantly upending and destroying your party. It's a much easier version, that's for sure.

From the potential death and horror of the Oregon Trail to something a little more relaxing: Poker. You play against the AI in this Poker custom GPT, starting with 10,000 credits, and play standard five-card Texas hold'em until someone's credits run out.

My only major gripe about this poker game is that ChatGPT seems to mimic your choices, such as check, raise, and so on, which can make the game predictable (or at least less random).

4. Console GPT

Now, this is a cool idea of how a custom GPT can span multiple types of input to create a custom game with a unique storyline.

When you first boot Console GPT, you meet the message "BOOT UP AND INSERT GAME." But you don't have a game cartridge to boot yet. Instead, you have to head to the Console GPT Glif page , which is a custom AI art tool that will create your "cartridge."

Input the type of game you want in the text box, select Glif It! , and watch as your creation comes to life. I went with "retro-futurism crime lord" and was presented with "Cyber Syndicate," a game where you "navigate a neon-soaked, cyberpunk metropolis teeming with high-tech heists and digital espionage," with a goal of becoming the ultimate syndicate leader.

Now, download the Cyber Syndicate cartridge (as an image; it's not really a cartridge file) by hovering over the image and selecting Download .

Head back to Console GPT and use the image upload button to insert the cartridge. For me, Cyber Syndicate instantly whirrs into life, declaring "COMPATIBLE CARTRIDGE DETECTED. LOADING 'CYBER SYNDICATE.'" The first scenario boots along with a 70 percent full health bar, three options, and, most interestingly, the option to visualize the scene.

The narrative flow is a bit shaky, and Console GPT could use some extra commands to remember other parts of the story, but it's good fun for a while. For example, one moment, I was a lone operative in a bar, and the next, I was planning a heist in a room with the rest of my assembled team.

5. Cookie Clicker

Not content with card games, custom cartridge adventures, or adventuring? Why not give a custom GPT idle game a try instead?

I have to say, this implementation of Cookie Clicker is jarring. Cookie Clicker is one of the most well-known idle games of all time, building up your cookie income over time.

The custom GPT Cookie Clicker is decidedly different. You're still building up a cookie empire in a similar style, but because ChatGPT doesn't run automated commands and cannot keep the numbers ticking over like the original game, it requires more input.

Still, if you're into idle games and want to try something different, it could be worth a try.

6. Cute Little Zombies

Adventure Inked has developed more than 200 ChatGPT text adventure games, so there are far too many to list here. Cute Little Zombies is a perfect example of why its text adventures are great, giving you a heap of different scenarios to play through, all with cute little AI-generated images to help build the story out.

You're first presented with a list to choose your preferred type of zombie apocalypse. Perhaps you prefer a "Classic Horde," or maybe you're more into a "Biotech Disaster" or "Apocalyptic Cult?" Either way, Cute Little Zombies' list of eight scenarios has you covered. Once you select, the game sets the scene, dropping you into a world filled with ravenous zombies, ready to make you one of their own.

What I like about Cute Little Zombies is that along with the numbered action options, it also makes it clear you can enter another action you want to take, which helps make the game a little more personal. Plus, the images created within the custom GPT game are ridiculously cute, and the storytelling is decent. I mean, it's not going to win any prizes for writing, but it's good enough to draw you in.

Gaming on ChatGPT is fun, but there is one major frustration that cannot be escaped: ChatGPT's input limit. As you can only send ChatGPT Plus a limited number of messages (around 40 every three hours), any in-depth gaming will be interrupted periodically to reset the counter. The counter doesn't roll over, either. You're not building up extra hours of ChatGPT messages by not messaging; ChatGPT tracks your usage from when you send your first message during a session.

ChatGPT's games are entertaining, and custom GPT games can add an extra dimension with some clever designs, but that limit means you'll always have more fun with a regular game instead.

How to Make a Homework Planner

Keeping track of homework and assignment due dates can be tricky without an organizational strategy. With several classes worth of work to remember, relying on your memory can be a challenge. Put your mind at ease by making a homework planner, and soon you will have all of your assignments at your fingertips.

Crafting Your Own Planner

• You could also use just a calendar with extended areas for writing notes and planning. Also, you can use post-it or sticky notes to add extra notes to your planner.

• Notebook paper offers a quick solution because you probably already have some in your backpack.
• Blank computer paper allows you an unstructured space to plan, which may work really well for people who are creative.
• Using templates makes it easier to get started and stay organized. Since you’ll be printing your own templates, you can choose what best suits your needs. Templates may take more work than notebook paper, but they will make it easier to get started with your planning since the calendar and planning spaces are already created for you.
• Try printed papers for a fun approach to creating your planner. Visit your local craft store for tons of design options. If you use printed paper, keep in mind how you will be using the planner when you pick your designs. For example, don’t choose all dark colors if you want to write directly onto the paper because you won’t be able to see what you wrote.

• Organizing into monthly, weekly, and daily sections will allow you to keep similar planning sheets together. This is a standard format for many planners and will allow you to keep weeks together when the month changes midweek. It also allows you to be flexible with how you use your to-do list sheets.
• If you want to organize by month, take one monthly calendar and pair it with five weekly planning sheets and enough to-do list sheets to accommodate your planning needs.

• You can mark your sections by placing a sheet of colored paper between them.
• You could also use dividers or stick-on divider tabs.
• Another option is to mark the sections with tape. Take a strip of tape and fold it over on itself so that just the edges of the tape touch the paper between two sections, leaving the fold of the tape sticking out of the stack.
• If you have post-it notes, you can use them as section dividers or to highlight important sections.

• If you like to work on the computer, design your cover using your favorite app and then print it out.
• If you want to skip decorating your cover or want something that looks store-bought, use a piece of scrapbook paper from the craft store as your cover. For example, you could buy a piece of zebra print paper and print your planner title on the front.
• If you’re an artist, draw or paint your cover.
• If you don’t like to draw or craft, you could try decorating your planner with stickers that represent something you love, such as your hobby or favorite bands.

• You can also decide if this planner will be for all of your classes or just one of them. This could affect how many sections you decide to make.

• For a cleaner look, cut a two-inch-wide slip of paper and fold it so that it will fit over your staples. Glue the paper in place to make your homemade planner look like a composition book.

For example, you could use blue for essays, orange for worksheets, red for tests, etc.
• Enter assignments for the whole grading period at once, which will prevent you from overlooking due dates.
• Divide your larger assignments over several days so that you have time to complete the assignment. For example, if you have a science project due at the end of the month, you need to start working on it in advance. Write your project workdays onto your calendar as well.

Using a Standard Notebook

• If you’re artistic, take this as an opportunity to express your talent by sketching or painting your planner cover. Another option is to create a collage using clippings of photos, words, and phrases from a magazine. Simply glue the clippings to the cover of your notebook in your desired arrangement. To protect your work, self-laminate it with clear packing tape.
• If you enjoy crafting, you could glue fabric, paper, or magazine photos to your notebook.
• If you don’t like to draw or craft, you could try decorating your planner with stickers or photos. For example, you could cover your notebook with stickers representing your favorite bands, or you could print out your favorite photos of your friends to glue on the cover.

• Count out the number of sheets for each section. Because it’s your planner, how many sheets of paper you will need per section will depend on you. However, for a standard year-long planner, you would need at least 14 sheets of paper for monthly planning and 54 sheets of paper for weekly planning. Including extra sheets in each section will allow for section labels, do-overs, and section buffers.
• Create your section dividers by either using tape or cutting the edges of the paper. To make your dividers using tape, fold a piece of tape over on itself so that just the ends touch the paper. Leave a flap of tape sticking out from the paper so that you can easily see the divide between sections. You can also divide your planner by cutting the corners of two of your sections. For example, you could cut the top outer corner of the monthly calendars and cut the bottom outer corner of the weekly planning sheets, leaving your third section un-cut. This would allow you to easily find each of those three sections.

• To draw your calendar, you will need a ruler or a straight surface to trace. Using your ruler, draw a large box.
• Lengthwise, trace six evenly-spaced lines to create seven columns for the seven days of the week.
• Then draw four evenly-spaced lines down the width of the box to create the rows of weeks. When you are finished, you will have 35 boxes.
• Write the days of the week above each column.
• Write the name of the month and the correct dates for the first month of your homework planner.

• Draw a line down the center of your paper and then draw three evenly-spaced lines across your paper to create eight boxes.
• Label seven of the boxes with the days of the week, and label the eighth box “Notes.”

Using a Binder

• To avoid adding bulk to your backpack, print out calendars and weekly planning templates and put them in your regular binder. That way you can easily track your assignments without worrying about juggling an extra notebook.

• Open the rings on your binder and first insert your to-do list paper. Place an index divider on top of the stack.
• Add your monthly planning sheets, followed by the index divider for that section.
• Finally, add your calendars, and, if you like, an index divider for that section.
• You may want to also add a special index page or key that explains your organizational strategy.

• If you already have an iPad or similar tablet device, there are a number of notetaking and calendar apps available that make digital planning an easy way to stay organized.
• You can take your notes or design your own custom planner directly through the apps, utilizing the numerous writing tools within them. However, you can also purchase planner templates from the internet to use as a base for your planner.
• New Semester, New Year, New Season. The first phase of maintaining a planner is to enter all known and repeating dates, these are usually established at the beginning of each new school year, semester, or season. • In Class. As soon as you receive a calendar or syllabus, enter: key dates, large assignments, projects, tests, and final exams in your planner.
