Today’s education landscape needs leaders like you — dynamic educators and innovators committed to making sustainable and scalable change for all students by building on your professional experience in PreK–12 classrooms and districts; on college and university campuses; or in philanthropies, nonprofits, policy organizations, and ed-tech initiatives.

That’s why the Harvard Graduate School of Education launched an online Master's in Education Leadership, a two-year, part-time Ed.M. program with Higher Education and PreK-12 pathways specifically designed for working education professionals who bring at least seven years of relevant or transferrable work experience. The program will strengthen the invaluable skills you’ve already developed and give you the tools to propel yourself to new leadership opportunities and to even greater impact.

“Skilled leadership is essential to creating opportunity and overcoming the longstanding inequities that create barriers to success. At HGSE, we are committed to helping you meet today’s complex challenges by becoming the type of leader education needs.” Bridget Long Dean and Saris Professor of Education and Economics Harvard Graduate School of Education

A New Option for Experienced Educators

The online Master's in Education Leadership from HGSE consists of a diverse cohort of professionals like you — leaders who are advancing in their careers, and who bring important perspectives grounded in real-world challenges. Our program is conducted almost exclusively online — except for one short on-campus experience, where you'll meet your cohort in person and build community prior to the start of the first fall semester.

The program offers a distinctive Harvard experience — including deep engagement and interaction with Harvard faculty and talented peers, as well as a lifelong professional network — within an intentionally designed curriculum and robust opportunities for mentorship and coaching. The program is career-embedded — so you can immediately apply what you are learning, in real time, to the work you are doing on the ground.

Two Pathways: Higher Education and PreK–12

In the online Master’s in Education Leadership, you will choose between two Professional Pathways — Higher Education or PreK–12 — that align with the area of practice or the student community in which your work will make an impact. Students interested in advancing into senior leadership roles in colleges and universities, or in organizations that impact higher education, should study in the Higher Education Pathway . Students who want to do change-making work within the education ecosystem on behalf of students from early childhood to secondary education levels should select the PreK–12 Pathway .

Our prescribed curriculum is intentionally designed to meet your professional needs. It is anchored in both foundational knowledge and core competencies in education leadership related to the U.S. education system. You will also complete pathway-specific courses to advance your leadership in higher education or preK–12 education, as well as the Foundations courses. You will also have the opportunity to select courses from a small subset of electives. A minimum of 42 credits are required to graduate with an Ed.M. degree from HGSE.

The main elements of the curriculum are:

Foundations Courses

Throughout the two-year program, you will participate in Foundations courses in four areas: How People Learn, Leading Change, Evidence, and Equity and Opportunity. Through the Foundations, you’ll build core skills central to the profession of education.

  • The online Ed.M. program commences with How People Learn, which runs online June–July and requires a time commitment of 12–15 hours per week.
  • Additional Foundations learning goals and experiences tied to Leading Change and Equity and Opportunity will be incorporated into other required courses during your two-year program.

Professional Pathways

All students will choose between the Higher Education and PreK–12 Pathways. Throughout the program, you will take both cross-pathway courses and pathway-specific courses. Cross-pathway courses will allow you to develop leadership skills that are important across sectors, as well as have discussions about how higher education and preK–12 can work more effectively together. Cross-pathway courses include:

  • Real Talk: The Art and Practice of Communications
  • Strategic Finance for Nonprofit Leaders

Pathway-specific courses are directed to the knowledge and skills important for leadership in the Pathway professional setting.

Elective Coursework

Students will have the opportunity to choose from a curated list of electives during the optional January terms, and during the fall and spring of their second year. Sample elective courses:

  • Law and Higher Education
  • Leading a School through Challenge and Crisis
  • Race, Equity, and Leadership
  • Teaching Exceptional Learners in Inclusive Classrooms
  • Why Can’t Higher Education Change?
  • Writing Workshop

Note: Though some courses may include comparative and international examples, applicants should expect a focus on leadership within U.S. domestic educational institutions and systems.

Leadership Core Competencies

To help you manage, lead, and implement change in complex organizations, our curriculum explores the core leadership competencies that you'll need to elevate your skills, knowledge, and expertise, wherever you are in your career. Throughout your coursework, you will strengthen your ability to:

  • Lead change and think strategically
  • Foster productive organizational conditions
  • Navigate politics and practice political inclusion
  • Communicate effectively
  • Cultivate self-development and team professional development skills

Higher Education Pathway

All students will choose between the Higher Education and PreK–12 Pathways. The Higher Education Pathway prepares you to be a dynamic leader in a diverse range of postsecondary education contexts. It is designed to increase your knowledge of the practices, policies, processes, challenges, and opportunities in American postsecondary education. You will enhance your repertoire of strategies and management skills for tackling critical issues and introducing change — while preparing you to advance in your current career or move into other important leadership roles in higher education.

Sample courses for the Higher Education Pathway:

  • Creating the Future of American Postsecondary Education
  • Higher Education Leadership & Governance
  • Student Affairs in Higher Education: Theory-Driven Practices to Help Students Thrive

You will also have the opportunity to engage with accomplished leaders through HGSE’s unique President-in-Residence program.

Students interested in the Higher Education Pathway currently hold administrative and mid-level leadership roles:

  • Colleges and universities, including in academic affairs, student affairs, admissions and enrollment management, advancement, and institutional research
  • Nonprofit education organizations
  • State and federal government agencies
  • Policy organizations focused on higher education

PreK–12 Pathway

All students will choose between the Higher Education and PreK–12 Pathways. The PreK–12 Pathway equips you to advance your leadership across the preK–12 landscape, including in such positions as teacher leader, principal, afterschool director, education agency representative, education nonprofit/philanthropic leader, or education entrepreneur.

Sample courses for the PreK–12 Pathway:

  • Strategic Leadership in the PreK–12 Ecosystem
  • Creating Conditions for Effective School, Family, and Community Partnerships
  • Leading Learning

Students interested in the PreK-12 Pathway currently hold administrative and mid-level leadership roles in:

  • PreK–12 schools, including as principals, assistant principals, and department heads
  • Nonprofit education organizations (I.e., foundations, advocacy organizations, technical assistant organizations).
  • Policy organizations focused on preK–12 education

Projected Time Commitment

Courses combine synchronous meetings and asynchronous work and assignments. Live or synchronous aspects of required courses will occur on weekdays (Monday–Friday) between 6 and 9 p.m. ET . Some elective courses, outside the required curriculum, may be offered at alternative times. On average, this degree requires 12 to 18 hours of work per week, though the weekly commitment will vary by term, courses taken, and students' own work styles. Students can expect to spend approximately five to seven hours per week in synchronous online class sessions with faculty members and classmates. The remaining hours will be spent working independently on asynchronous class preparation, in self-scheduled small-group work with other students or working on assignments.

Weekly Time Estimate

To complete the online Ed.M. in Education Leadership, students must complete 42 total credit hours of coursework over the two-year program. While the weekly time commitment varies, the graphic below provides a snapshot of the estimated weekly time commitment students may experience during the fall and spring semesters, when they will typically take 8 credits, the equivalent of two courses .

Master by Research atau Coursework: Ketahui Perbedaan Lengkapnya

September 2, 2022 • 5 minutes read

coursework master

Apa Perbedaan  Master by Research  dan  Coursework?

Biaya Master by Research dan Coursework

Based on the 2021-22  Reddin Survey of UK postgraduate fees

Yuk kita ambil contoh, University of Sidney.

A. Master by Research

B. Master by Coursework

Tentukan pilihanmu!

AUGUSTA, Ga. — On Sunday morning before the final round of the Masters, Scottie Scheffler felt overwhelmed again.

Two years ago, he was seeking his first major title and wasn’t sure if he was ready for that breakthrough. He felt anxious and broke into tears before his wife Meredith’s calming presence helped him find an inner peace that led him to victory. Two years later, Scheffler was in position to win another green jacket but this time Meredith was back home in Dallas awaiting the birth of their first child later this month. So, Scheffler sat around with some of his best childhood friends, who stepped in to deliver the words he needed so he could overcome his biggest foe: himself.

“I told them, I wish I didn’t want to win as badly as did I or as badly as I do. I think it would make the mornings easier,” Scheffler recounted. “But I love winning. I hate losing. I really do. And when you’re here in the biggest moments, when I’m sitting there with the lead on Sunday, I really, really want to win badly. And my buddies told me this morning, my victory was secure on the cross. And that’s a pretty special feeling to know that I’m secure for forever and it doesn’t matter if I win this tournament or lose this tournament. My identity is secure for forever.”

What a win. #themasters pic.twitter.com/kxtCFZgmMd — The Masters (@TheMasters) April 15, 2024

Scheffler’s reputation as the best player in golf keeps growing as he turned in another dominant performance, winning for the third time in his last four starts and claiming his ninth career PGA Tour title. He made seven birdies, including six in a nine-hole span, to shoot 4-under 68 at Augusta National Golf Club and win the 88th Masters by four shots over Sweden’s Ludvig Aberg.

Augusta National always brings out the brilliance in the game’s preeminent players – from Arnold Palmer to Jack Nicklaus to Tom Watson and Tiger Woods – and makes their greatness shine. The course also can expose any weakness and has a way of separating good from great golf. Rory McIlroy has yet to produce the goods at the Masters but he’s experienced stretches of brilliance during his career and game recognized game as he touted Scheffler’s remarkable run.

“Not a lot of clutter,” McIlroy said of Scheffler’s mental approach. “The game feels pretty easy when you’re in stretches like this.”

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon amid the towering Georgia pines and beneath a robin-blue sky, Scheffler’s various super powers were on display and he intimidated his competition into the type of mistakes that he’s learned to eliminate in his latest victory spurt.

“You have to stay patient and trust in all aspects of your game,” Scheffler said.

Scheffler raced out of the gate with a bogey-free 66 on Thursday, endured swirling winds and shot even-par 72 when scores ballooned on Friday and bounced back from his lone rough patch of the tournament – a double bogey at 10 and bogey at 11 – by making an eagle at 13 on Saturday and shoot 71  to claim a one-stroke lead heading into the final round.

“He is pretty amazing at letting things roll off his back and stepping up to very difficult golf shots and treating them like their own. He’s obviously a tremendous talent, but I think that is his superpower,” said Max Homa, who shot 73 and finished T-3.

In the final round, Scheffler had to fend off Homa, Aberg (69), who was trying to win a major in his first major championship, and Collin Morikawa (74), who was seeking the third leg of the career Grand Slam. The four players shared the lead as Scheffler neared the turn before each of Scheffler’s closest pursuers made a critical error. That’s what Scheffler does. He makes some of the best golfers in the world hit shots they aren’t comfortable hitting. He dragged them into the deep end of the pool to see if they can swim with him. First to sink was Morikawa, who made double bogeys at Nos. 9 and 11.

“Greed got the best of me,” Morikawa said.

Aberg erred at No. 11 too, drawing his second shot too much and it bounced off the bank and into the pond. His hopes of becoming the first Masters rookie since Fuzzy Zoeller in 1979 to win the title drowned with that costly double.

“I knew I couldn’t miss left and I missed it left,” he said.

Homa’s tee shot at the par-3 12 th sailed over the green into a bush and he made double too.

“You just know that Scottie’s just going to play well, and he’s going to be there, and you’re going to have to do something special at some point, chip in, make a long putt, and I just didn’t do that,” Homa said.

Scheffler was there thanks to a tidy short game early, a clutch 10-foot birdie putt at No. 9 and some deadly iron shots that built him a comfortable cushion as he signed for a 72-hole total of 11-under 277.

Scheffler’s lob wedge at the ninth spun back to within inches and his approach at No. 10 danced to 9 feet to set up his third birdie in a row. He made a bogey at No. 11 but got the stroke back after attacking the par-5 13 th in two and stuffing another short iron to tap-in range at 14. He finished off the birdie binge with another iron to 9 feet at the par-3 16th.

“He seems to be good at everything. He doesn’t really have a weakness,” Scheffler’s caddie Ted Scott said. “I think people created a weakness in his putting. He’s not a weak putter. He’s a good putter. He’s a very good putter.”

On his way to sign his scorecard, Scheffler paused to give his putting coach, Phil Kenyon, a bear hug and lifted him off the ground. Scheffler won the PGA Tour’s Player of the Year award last season, but a balky putter kept him from what otherwise might have been a historic season. After Scheffler failed to win the Tour Championship in August, he and his agent Blake Smith discussed his putting woes on the plane ride home.

“We kind of look at each other, and I think we both were thinking the same thing. And we both looked at each other, and I was like, ‘You know, I want to see a putting coach.’ Blake goes, ‘I think that’s a good idea. Let’s talk to Randy,’” Scheffler recalled.

Randy would be Randy Smith, Scheffler’s coach for the last 20 years and also Blake’s father. This was a significant decision.

“For me to have to bring in somebody else could have been a shot to his ego and he may not have wanted me to do it. But Randy sat there and he said, ‘You know what, I think it’s the right time.’ We called Phil, and about a week later he came in, had a visit. We worked for a couple days, and, yeah, now we’re here,” Scheffler said.

Scheffler began using a mallet putter in March at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and it has made a world of difference. Scheffler took 109 putts this week en route to victory.

“His whole putting-majig he was going through, I knew he was going to get out of,” Morikawa said. “But to see what he’s doing with his irons is crazy impressive because he’s hitting every shot, he’s moving both directions, and it’s something that I admired.”

That’s high praise from Morikawa, who has been considered the heir to the throne long-held by Tiger Woods as the best iron player in the game. Scheffler has become dominant with his ballstriking. Morikawa’s caddie J.J. Jakovac joked, “It’s probably a little easier to stop a 7-iron or 8-iron than the skinny 5-iron that I hit. But you play with what you got.”

Scheffler dominated the par 5s the way Woods once did, playing them in 9 under this week. He has yet to shoot a round over par this season. He earned consecutive wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Players Championship before a T-2 in his last start at the Texas Children’s Houston Open two weeks ago on the PGA Tour. He has seven top 10s in eight starts on Tour this season with a worst finish of T-17 at the American Express back in January.

“Scottie has a way of making the extraordinary look ordinary,” said Golf Channel’s Brandel Chamblee. “You don’t realize until you see his other competitors, these great players in the same spot as him, and they can’t quite match him shot for shot. They can’t quite match him with the nuance, and you begin to recognize his genius…small little differences, but they mean so much around here.”

Scheffler’s won two Masters titles in five starts — only Horton Smith who won two of the first three Masters played has done that faster. In the final round, Scheffler was the player who made the fewest mistakes. He credited Smith with instilling in him the importance of patience.

“I remember being 15, 16 years old and not winning as many times as I felt like I should and Randy would always say, ‘It’s not about who is the best when you’re 14 years old, it’s about who can be the best when you’re 25 years old.’ And he’s like, ‘It’s a long journey.’ ”

That journey has taken Scheffler to the summit of the game and his Masters triumph felt like a coronation for what has the potential to be a historic year.

“I feel like playing professional golf is an endlessly not satisfying career,” Scheffler said, but he will try to enjoy it before he tees it up again next week. “I will go home, soak in this victory tonight. Will definitely enjoy the birth of my first child. But with that being said, I still love competing. I don’t plan on taking my eye off the ball anytime soon, that’s for sure.”

What are the most difficult holes at the Masters? Ranking Augusta National's toughest holes

coursework master

Editor's note: Follow live coverage of the Masters, leaderboard, highlights and more.

Augusta National Golf Club is not the toughest golf course, but it is one of the most iconic. That's not to say that the course doesn't have its difficult parts though. After all, there is a stretch of parts of three holes on the course referred to as "Amen Corner", because you just have to pray to get through that unforgiving patch unscathed for any hope of winning the tournament.

These holes have dashed numerous hopes and dreams over the years. However, performing well on these holes often gives golfers opportunity to catch up in later rounds. These will undoubtedly prove to be the most pivotal fairways and greens to hit at Augusta this weekend, and everyone should be glued to their screens when their favorite golfers tee up for them.

Here are the five toughest holes at the 2024 Masters .

Golf News: Sergio Garcia, Fred Couples offer very different views on the current state of professional golf

Honorable Mention: 16th hole - Par 3, 170 yards

The 16th hole at Augusta can be either the toughest or easiest hole on the course depending on where the pin is placed. Given that the 16th hole has a two-tiered green, when the cup is placed on the higher level, a pinpoint tee shot is needed or else golfers will be left with a near impossible uphill putt for birdie. And any putt left short would almost certainly result in a bogey. On the other hand though, if the cup is on the lower tier, the 16th hole becomes a haven for birdies.

Sure, the hole has a pond to the left that has dashed some championship hopes, but this is also the same hole that has witnessed 24 of the 34 hole-in-ones all-time during the Masters. While it can be a pain, it very often is the opposite. Oh, by the way, the hole will be on the much easier lower-level setup on the final day of the 2024 Masters.

Score to Par in Masters history: +0.139

5) 5th hole: Par 4, 495 yards

An uphill dogleg left, the 5th hole at Augusta boasts two devastating fairway bunkers, needing a carry of 315 yards to clear them. Not only are the bunkers placed in horrible spots though, but they are also incredibly deep. Getting to the green in two strokes from that sand is near impossible.

If that wasn't enough, there is also a bunker on the back side of the green. That may not sound too bad, but when you realize that the green slopes back to front, you realize that shooting toward the back of the green is often the best play so the ball can roll back toward the hole. However, any shot long beyond the green is in danger of ending up on the beach.

Score to Par in Masters history: +0.266

4) 12th hole: Par 3, 155 yards

Another Par 3 and the most unforgiving hole of the "Amen Corner", Golden Bell offers very little wiggle room short or long of the green. Shoot it long and you could end up in either of the far side bunkers or in the woods. Shoot it short and you could end up rolling down the slope into the pond. It's a lose-lose situation.

Furthermore, the layout near the tee box puts the golfer in the middle of a valley of trees, making wind direction very difficult to determine prior to teeing off. This hole is so tough that even Tiger Woods shot a 10 here back in 2020. Any hole that can make the GOAT hit double-digits is quite the doozy.

Score to Par in Masters history: +0.270

3) 4th hole: Par 3, 240 yards

Although this hole started as a 190-yard, Par 3, it's extension has been the bane of many a golfer's existence. Not only does the wind play an enormous factor on this hole, but any miss left is sure to end up in either the deep rough or bunker, meaning a par is near-impossible. This hole has absolutely zero room for error, and has produced numerous bogeys and double bogeys over the years.

Score to Par in Masters history: +0.284

2) 10th hole: Par 4, 495 yards

This is the hole that famously destroyed Rory McIlroy in 2011. It has destroyed many others along the way as well. A perfect tee shot is needed for any hope at a birdie on this hole. Any shot too far left in an effort to get closer to the green could wind up in the fairway bunker. The hole doesn't get any easier after the tee shot though as another bunker to the right of the green is waiting to swallow whole any golfer with a large ego.

Score to Par in Masters history: +0.299

1) 11th hole: Par 4, 520 yards

Although this hole may be slightly easier than in years past ever since a few trees to the right of the fairway were removed prior to 2022, it is still devastating. In 2002, the club moved the hole back from 445 yards to an insane 490 and eventually 520, all while maintaining Par 4 status. Since this is such a long hole, numerous golfers tend to overextend on their second shots in an effort to reach the green in regulation. However, this can be very costly considering the pond on the left side of the green.

This hole is the start of "Amen Corner" for a reason. While the 12th and 13th holes don't offer much reprieve, it's always a pleasant start to the dreaded trio when pros can walk away with a par.

Score to Par in Masters history: +0.303

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — Tiger Woods finished the Masters on Sunday with a record he could do without, walking off the course with a 16-over 304, his highest 72-hole score in a career that spans three decades.

Woods’ previous high was 302 at the Memorial in 2015. He has only failed to break 300 one other time at the Masters two years ago when he shot 78-78 on the weekend and finished at 301.

Despite the score, Woods called it a “good week” and said he’s going to begin preparing for the other three majors including the PGA Championship in May, the U.S. Open in June and the British Open in July.

“This is a golf course I knew going into it, so I’m going to do my homework going forward at Pinehurst, Valhalla and Troon,” Woods said. “But that’s kind of the game plan.”

Overall, he wasn’t unhappy with how he played.

“Coming in here, not having played a full tournament in a very long time, it was a good fight on Thursday and Friday,” Woods said. “Unfortunately (Saturday) didn’t quite turn out the way I wanted it to.”

It hardly mattered to the crowd.

The 48-year-old Woods, who is still dealing with the effects of numerous surgeries that have impacted his body and limited his playing time on the PGA Tour, received a huge roar from the crowd as he pitched close to the hole on No. 18 and made par.

Wearing his traditional Sunday red, Woods tipped his hat the crowd.

Woods has played only 24 holes in one tournament going into the Masters

“I’m just going to keep lifting, keep the motor going, keep the body moving, keep getting stronger, keep progressing,” Woods said. “Hopefully the practice sessions will keep getting longer.”

Woods was in last place among the 60 players who made the cut when he finished. The previous time he finished in last place was in the 2020 Genesis Invitational at Riviera.

Still, the patrons flocked to see the man who took golf’s popularity to new heights, even if he isn’t been the dominant player he once was at Augusta National.

Woods hasn’t really been competitive here since 2020 when he finished tied for 38th one year after his stunning fifth victory at age 43.

He finished 13 over two years ago, then was forced to withdraw in 2023 in the third round due to injuries that weren’t helped by the cold, rainy weather that had taken an obvious physical toll on his body.

For a short time this week Woods showed glimpses of past greatness, relying mostly on his knowledge of the course.

He played the first two rounds in 1 over to make the cut for a record 24th time. But the final two rounds were a struggle for Woods, who posted his worst round of his career at a major with an 82 on Saturday.

“It’s always nice coming back here because I know the golf course, I know how to play it,” Woods said. “I can kind of simulate shots. Granted, it’s never quite the same as getting out here and doing it.”

He played the final 36 holes in 15 over, shooting 77 on Sunday in his 100th career round at the Masters.

Before the round Woods appeared to receive some swing tips from his 15-year-old son Charlie on the practice range.

Things started off well enough, but that didn’t last long.

After playing the first two holes in 1 under, Woods made a bogey on No. 3 before things started to unravel on the par-4 fifth hole when he took an unplayable lie and had to be driven back to the tee box in a golf cart to hit again. He wound up with a triple-bogey 7.

He added another bogey on the 6th.

He nearly chipped in from the sand on No. 16, giving fans a thrill and bringing back fond memories of his iconic chip in in 2005 en route to the fourth of his five championships at Augusta.

Woods said the toughest part of the week for him was battling the wind, which reached 45 mph at times with gusts.

“What it was doing out here to the golf shots and the balls and putting, how difficult the course was playing,” Woods said. “It doesn’t take much to get out of position here. Unfortunately, I got out of position a lot (Saturday) and a couple times today.”

The once-dominant Woods played with Neal Shipley, the only amateur to make the cut at the Masters.

It was a stark reminder of just how long Woods has been around.

Woods’ streak of cuts made at the Masters began in 1997, before the 23-year-old Shipley was born.

Even with Woods being out of contention he still attracting the usual huge throng of fans eager just to get a glimpse of the player that became the face of the sport. Fans applaud after every Woods’ shot — good or bad — and continue to shout encouragement his way.

Why two Masters champions say no more Augusta National course yardage changes are needed

coursework master

The Masters Tournament is only tinkering with Augusta National Golf Club this year.

A year after the tee was moved back 35 yards on the par-5 13 th  hole, the only change this year is to another par 5, No. 2, and it was minor.

Already the longest hole on the course, 10 yards have been added to No. 2, making it play to 585 yards. The next-longest hole is the par-5 eighth, at 570 yards. That brings the course’s yardage to 7,555 yards.

This begs the question: Which hole, or holes, are next?

“That's a great question,” 1992 Masters champion Fred Couples said Tuesday. “I don't think any of them have gone too far. I really don't.”

TEE TIMES: When does Tiger Woods play at the Masters? Tee times on Thursday, Friday for full field

SERVING IT UP: Defending champion Rahm has plenty on his golf plate, and the Champions Dinner too

“They have plenty of space, no question about that, if they want to (lengthen it),” said two-time Masters champion Jose Maria Olazabal, who is celebrating the 30 th  anniversary of his second green jacket victory.

Couples and Olazabal believe the course should stand pat and not make any more yardage changes.

“I don't know if there's any holes maybe they need to lengthen. I really don't,” Couples said.

Said Olazabal: “I don't think the golf course needs it anymore. I think even for today's game with all those young kids hitting it very, very far, I still think this golf course is long enough.

“I played with Bubba (Watson) today on the back nine and he reached the green in two on 13, reached the green in two on 15,” Olazabal said. “He was hitting like a 9-iron or a wedge on 14. On 17, he must have hit, yeah, a similar club, like 9-iron, something like that. He hit a 3-wood off the tee on 18 to avoid the bunkers. I think the golf course is long enough, but if they want to, I'm pretty sure that they can find the space to do so.”

Couples pointed out that he considers the narrow par-4 seventh hole “brutal” at 450 yards. But Justin Thomas, one of his Tuesday playing partners, hit an 8-iron into the green.

Couples is a huge fan of the 18 th  hole, a par-4 which plays at 465 yards after more than 55 yards were added in 2002. He hopes it stays that way.

“I think 18 is probably one of the greatest holes in golf now,” Couples said. “We didn't use the (back tee) last year because it was into the wind almost every day. But if it's dry and they move the tee back, it's one of the greatest finishing holes -  trying to make a par to win this thing would be amazing.”

Last Sunday, Couples was playing the course with a few amateurs and had some interesting instructions for them as they were leaving the 17th green.

“I told them just don't look (to the left, down the 18 th  fairway), just follow me and just walk all the way to the back of the 18th tee and now turn around. One guy just couldn't believe it. I mean, it's a tunnel.”

With all the yardage changes over the years, that leaves No. 12 as the only hole that has remained the same length through all 88 Masters. It is still 155 famous yards.

Earlier this week, 2000 Masters champion Vijay Singh suggested that at least 10 yards should be added to No. 12. He thinks it is playing easier because golfers are hitting less club into the green.

“Well, I'll tell you what, no,” said Olazabal, when asked his opinion. “Just leave it like it is. I think it's a fantastic hole, great hole. It's a short hole. But it's a devilish hole. It's very hard to hit the green. The green is at an angle. It's not very deep. It's only like 10 yards in the middle, about what, 14 on the left and 12 on the right. You know, I don't think we need to do anything with that hole. I think it’s a fantastic hole. When the wind blows, it’s a nightmare of a hole.”

At No. 2, the tee was moved back and also to the golfers’ left. The increased yardage is just enough to stop most golfers from attempting to carry the fairway bunker on the right.

“I know it's 10 yards back, but thought it was going to be more left,” said Will Zalatoris. “I think it's more the fact that carrying the bunker is completely out of play with the exception of about four or five guys in the field. Used to maybe say 10 percent of the guys could do it.”

One of them who can still do it is Rory McIlroy.

“Funny, I was here last week and I wasn’t playing with Rory,” said Shane Lowry. “He was out at a different time. I asked him, ‘Can you carry that bunker?’ And he says ‘Yeah.’ I certainly can’t. I remember there was a couple of times last year when I could carry that bunker but I definitely can’t this year.”
