Rules for Writing Better Horror Stories : r/Ruleshorror
In classic horror settings (spooky forests, abandoned mansions, etc.) the location is used to make the atmosphere creepy and feel isolated. However, ruleshorror writers get very creative. There are stories written in the middle of busy days, stories written in cars, and everything in-between.
For writers who enjoy writing horror.
The Issue with Mould (5k). About a woman's struggle to keep the mould in her apartment under control. Both stories contain element of satire and dark comedy. It's rare that horror actually scares me, either as a reader or a viewer, so it's a bit hard for me to judge how these stories read.

Someone else already mentioned King's "On Writing", it was great and very helpful years ago. Horror Writers
We love horror that reminds us of Event Horizon (McDonald then adapted by Eisner, 1997), Knocking (Broström & Theorin, 2021), Master (Diallo, 2022), The Handyman Method (Cutter & Sullivan, 2023), Get Out (Peele, 2017), and of The Last House on Needless Street (Ward, 2021) or Dear Hannah (Stage, 2024).
