Dr B R Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) on Friday released application forms from eligible candidates for admission to PhD programmes in English, Hindi, Education, History, Political Science, Public Administration, Sociology, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Environmental Science for the 2022-23 academic year.

Hyderabad: Dr B R Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) on Friday released application forms from eligible candidates for admission to PhD programmes in English, Hindi, Education, History, Political Science, Public Administration, Sociology, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Environmental Science for the 2022-23 academic year.

According to BRAOU officials, the admission process is strictly as per UGC regulations 2022. The registration for PhD and the entrance test is through online.

The candidates are to visit the university portal www.braouonline.in to fill the prescribed application forms and register by paying a fee of Rs. 1,500 (Rs.1,000/- in case of SC/ST/BC/PwD).

The procedure for payment of the fee is available on the website. The entrance test will be held at Hyderabad only. For details the candidates can contact 040-23680411, 040-23680241 and also toll-free number -18005990101. The date and time of entrance test is May 20 from 2 to 5 pm. The last date for registration and payment of fee is May 8.

Eligibility: Candidates possessing Master’s Degree in the subject concerned from a recognized University, with a minimum of 55% marks (50% in the case of SC/ST candidates) are eligible for admission into the Ph.D. Programme. Fee:  • For Gen Candidates – Rs. 1500/- • For SC/ST/PH/BC Candidates – Rs. 1000/-

Admission Procedure: Admission into Ph.D., Programme shall be through an Entrance Test (Computer Based Test [CBT]) mode followed by an interview. The applicants who are qualified in UGC/CSIR/JRF/NET/SLET/SET/M.Phil., tests are exempted from appearing for the EntranceTest. However, they have to fill in the application form and register themselves for the admission by paying the required fee and face the interview.

BRAOU Hyderabad has recently organised a two day national seminar on the topic “Higher Education in India: Issues and Challenges for High Quality and Inclusiveness” on Gebruary 28 and 29, 2024 under the sponsorship of TSCHE and ICSSR-SRC.

BRAOU Hyderabad admissions 2024 are open for the January session. The last date to apply for UG (BA, B.Sc, B.Com), PG (MA, M.Sc, M.Com, M.Com, MBA, M.Lib,Sc, B.lIb.Sc), PG Diploma, and Certificate programmes at the university is January 31, 2024.

• BRAOU Hyderabad Overview

Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University Hyderabad was established in the year 1982 through an Act of the A.P. State Legislature (APOU Act 1982) by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. It was formerly known as Andhra Pradesh Open University. The university has been recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi. It has also been approved by the National Council of Technical Education (NCTE) as well as the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). Through a vast network of 213 study centres located in the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, including 23 regional coordination centres and 14 locations that do not accept female students, BRAOU Hyderabad offers services to students.

BRAOU Hyderabad courses areprovided to the interested candidates at certificate, diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate levels. A total of 200+ courses across 10 different streams are offered to the candidates at the university. These courses areavailable in the stream of education, arts, science, commerce, and management in various specialisations. All the courses at the university are offered  in open/ distance-learning mode. The BRAOU Hyderabad admission to all the courses isbased on the merit of the candidates in the last qualifying exam. For admission to some courses like BEd, MBA and others, the BRAOU Eligibility Test is considered by the university along with the minimum eligibility criteria. Additionally, TS/AP ICET is also accepted by the university for admission to MBA courses.

The BRAOU Hyderabad campus is spread over an area of 53.63 acres and offers various facilities like an Administrative and Support Services Block, Guest house, CSTD & GRADE building, Academic Branch, Science & Technology Multifunctional Labs (STML), EMR & RC and Library building, Study Material House, an extensive open plaza, a conference hall, Centre for Learner Services, Vice-Chancellor’s Lodge and an auditorium named after Late Sri Bhavanam Venkatram. BRAOU Hyderabad courses are available to interested candidates at undergraduate, postgraduate as well as doctoral levels. The courses are available in the stream of science, commerce, humanities, management, education and more. Generally, the undergraduate courses at BRAOU Hyderabad are 3 years, 2 years for the postgraduate courses and 3-5 years for the PhD courses. The  BRAOU Hyderabad courses are offered in over 200 specialisations and 10 different streams. These courses are taught to the candidates in distance-learning mode. The courses are approved by both the National Council of Technical Education (NCTE) and the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). The BRAOU Hyderabad fees for the offered courses range between Rs 2,000 and Rs 18,000 annually. 

BRAOU Hyderabad admission takes place twice a year in two different sessions, January and July. The admission process is determined by the marks obtained in the qualifying test for all UG, PG (except MBA and B.Ed), diploma, and certificate programmes. Admission to MBA & B.Ed programmes is determined by the results of the BRAOU Entrance Test (BRAOUET). Additionally, TS/AP ICET is accepted by the university for admission to MBA courses. In order to provide admission to the PhD and B.Ed programmes, the university also administers entrance exams. The entire process of BRAOU Hyderabad admission takes place online. Applicants can register online for admission on the university's official website. Candidates can choose the study centres of their choice and submit the application form at the study centre which is closest to them.

BRAOU Hyderabad Application Process 2024

• Go to the official website of BRAOU Hyderabad i.e. www.braou.ac.in.
• On the homepage, select the "Admissions" tab.
• Choose which programme you wish to apply for.
• Completely fill out the online BRAOU Hyderabad application form by providing the necessary personal and educational information.
• Upload the required documents to support your application (mark sheet, photo in passport size, signature, etc.).
• Make an online payment to pay the application fee set by the university.
• Fill out the application and send it in.
• Save a copy of the submitted application form for future reference.

BRAOU Hyderabad placement process generally starts in  September with leading national and international recruiters. As per the reports, 95% students of the recent batch were placed successfully in different sectors. The placement cell prepares students for positions in a variety of establishments and organisations, including think tanks, academic institutions, PSUs, corporate sectors, and political and social agencies. To bring recruiters and students together under one roof, the BRAOU placement cell is actively organising workshops, seminars, placement camps, guest lecture training, and trade fairs. BRAOU Hyderabad campus is spread over an area of 53.6 acres and has everything a student will need for his or her overall development. The campus is found at Jubilee Hills within the heart of the capital city, Hyderabad. The University believes in providing scholars with the simplest environment for learning and, therefore, the most advanced infrastructure for professional growth. The BRAOU Hyderabad campus houses quite 120 special centers, classrooms complexes, student, faculty, and residential staff quarters, a healthcare center thats operational 24 hours, and an administration block. In addition, the campus is well equipped with a sports ground for indoor and outdoor games, a gym, ATM, library, mess, and shopping facilities.

Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University, since the start, has embraced the multimedia teaching-learning approach. The self-learning course material is supplemented and complemented with audio-video lessons and live teleconferences. The University features a well-equipped audio-visual production & research centre, which facilitates the delivery of technology-mediated courseware for the advantage of learners.

• Hostel: BRAOU Hyderabad hostel is spacious and well-furnished, with the availability of a large dining hall. The hostel has its live-in wardens and a faculty member who administers the accommodation. It is to be noted that admission to BRAOU doesn't ensure guaranteed hostel accommodation due to the limited capacity of the hostels.
• Gym: The gymnasium is part of BRAOU Hyderabad campus facilities. Students can take care of their health and fitness by making use of this gymnasium facility provided by the University. The gym is well equipped with exercise and training equipment. The gym helps the students to stay fit and healthy.
• Sports: The BRAOU campus has outdoor and indoor games facilities for students' recreation, including basketball, badminton, tennis courts, cricket, and football grounds. The campus sports ground also has a running track.  
• Cafeteria: The air-conditioned cafeteria facilities provided by the University include Indian and south Indian cuisines. There is another split cafeteria available for coffee and snacks on the campus. 
• Auditorium: BRAOU Hyderabad auditorium is used for academic talks, conferences, seminars, slides, and film shows, demonstrations, lectures, workshops, etc.
• Medical/ Hospital: The Health Centre at BRAOU Hyderabad, right from its inception in 1991, has been striving to provide comprehensive health care, i.e., preventive, curative, and promotive services to students only. However, for University staff, there is also a CGHS dispensary on the campus.
• Wifi: The University has high-speed wifi connectivity in all laboratories, libraries, hostels, auditoriums and seminar halls, and even guest houses. The campus has been using the new standard for next-generation wireless technology for wifi networks so that the teachers, students, and support staff can easily access the data, voice, multimedia, and video conferencing services as well as research, e-learning, and business applications.
• IT Infrastructure: BRAOU Hyderabad has set up facilities for in-house use of E-mail, Computers, and internet services for all students, project staff, and faculty members. This unit of the University offers a variety of E-services to the students in the context of literature search, computation, and graphics.
• Laboratories: BRAOU Hyderabad laboratories are equipped with various modern instrumental facilities inside them related to all the fields. They are sophisticated but well-equipped, and more than 40 students can perform their experiments simultaneously. The instruments available in the laboratory include a UV spectrophotometer: Double beam OD measurement, Magnetic stirrer, Multi-parameter: 6 parameters, namely pH, TDS, ORP, Salinity, Temp, millivolt, Hot air oven, and Digital oven, Rotary flask shaker, UV transilluminator, Dual Orbitex shaker with compressor and many more.
• Convenience stores: The BRAOU campus has a few departmental stores to facilitate students' daily shopping.
• Alumni Associations: Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University is proud to have a collective of more than 1,00,000 alumni. They have been working as social scientists, scientists, literary critics, civil servants, media experts, journalists, foreign language experts, political leaders, technologists, social activists, entrepreneurs, and managers over the last 35 years and more. 
• Parking Facility: The University has a parking facility for students and staff.
• Guest Room: BRAOU campus has a guest house dedicated to accommodating official and unofficial guests of BRAOU Workshops, Seminars, Symposia, Conferences, Training Programmes, Organised by the University, its Centers or Departments, or others.

Has BRAOU Hyderabad received any recognition?

BRAOU Hyderabad was the first open university which was established in India. All the courses at the university have been recognised by the UGC, under the UGC Act 1956. The validity and equivalency of BRAOU degrees with those granted by traditional institutions is guaranteed by this recognition.The DEB, the government agency in charge of overseeing remote learning initiatives in India, has also provided recognition to the university.

What is the medium of instruction at BRAOU Hyderabad?

Most of the courses at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University are offered in English. The students can choose their medium of education while taking admission at the university. The study material and examinations are also provided in the chosen medium of instruction.

Is there any age limit for admission to BRAOU Hyderabad?

For admission to any UG as well as PG programmes at BRAOU Hyderabad, there is no minimum age requirement. You may apply for your chosen courses as long as you have passed the required qualifying exam. Additionally, the majority of UG & PG programmes have no upper age limit. Exceptionally, for admission to M.Phil courses, the maximum age to apply for the courses is 45 years for general category students and 50 years for SC/ST/OBC candidates.

Does BRAOU Hyderabad offer readmissions?

Yes, readmissions are available at BRAOU Hyderabad to students who have dropped out of school early or who wish to return for any other reason. According to the policies of the university in effect at the time, a student who was unable to finish their studies within the allotted period may apply for re-admission. The institution should continue to offer the course and semester for which readmission is requested. The student shouldn't be facing any disciplinary actions or unpaid bills. The study locations won't be altered, meanwhile, for students undergoing readmission. Either online or offline submission of the readmission application is possible.

What is the procedure for changing the study centre of students at BRAOU Hyderabad?

During the minimum duration of any programme, the study centre is only changed once at BRAOU Hyderabad. In the study centre where they are accepted, the student must turn in their application in the format required. Once the documentary proof provided for transfer has been carefully verified, the head of the study centre will move forward the application with a specific suggestion, duly convincing himself of the cause. Within the Hyderabad/Secunderabad twin cities, no study centre relocation is permitted.

Are there scholarships provided by BRAOU Hyderabad?

Several scholarship programmes are available from Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) to assist students who are pursuing remote learning as a means of education. Offering services to targeted groups such as Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), Backward Classes (BCs), Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), and Minority communities, the scholarships are provided by the Telangana State Government. Usually, they pay all or a portion of the fees. Along with this, the university-led scholarships are also offered to the needy and meritorious students.

Although Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) in Hyderabad primarily operates as an open university with distance learning programmes, it also has a physical campus with a range of amenities for staff, teachers, and students. Life @ University

Students start their day with classes in three campuses of University namely, Kashmere Gate, Karampura and Lodhi Road, but it gradually transforms into a day where students become part of a wide range of events happening across the university. At one moment one might see a street play in progress, at another moment one might walk into a discussion over serious issues. Students spend their day engaging in these activities, enjoying each moment with full zeal and then preparing for the events of the next day with equal enthusiasm. Film screenings, literary festivals, musical nights, street plays, performances, poetry recitations and other such events bring diverse kind of culture to the students; they not only enjoy but also learn as an integral part of their pedagogy at University. A student not only gathers knowledge in lectures here at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University Delhi, but the horizon of education goes beyond the four walls of classes.
