ZERO MOVIE REVIEW
Zero is a supernatural abstract tale of two lovers who struggle to be together. It rewrites Adam and Eve’s basic mythology and is a mix of reality and dreams. The intimate scenes between the lead couple deserve a mention while the groundwork gone into the story making tags along with it.
Gautham Menon’s voice-over for the mythological portions deserves a mention. The storyline transits between numerous worlds which becomes a little difficult to comprehend. Ashwin plays the role of a loving husband, who doesn’t want to let his wife down no matter what kind of hurdles the couple faces. He is smart, elegant and is custom made husband material. As a shy and dutiful housewife Sshivada is beautiful. Showcasing a wide range of emotions, she has delivered her best. JD Chakravarthy is a peripheral character and manages to make heads turn with his unique sense of humor, attitude and body language.
Nivas emerges triumphant with a beautiful background scores that try to not let down the narration. The lighting is subtle and soft. Cinematography by Babu Kumar has been done picturesquely while the everyday locations and casual costumes manage to capture attention. Nothing fancy and unfeasible which make the characters easy to relate with. The editor has done a decent job by mapping together real scenes that are heavily layered with CG work.
Talking about the universal symphony of love and hatred, this story also spotlights the connection between souls from physical intimacy. What’s confusing is the fact that it’s not entirely fictitious nor it is reality in general. The gear shifting may not go down well with the general audience. Each of its worlds is governed by independent rules and dynamics that stir confusion and restlessness. Leisurely paced screenplay is Zero’s other disadvantage.
Zero is a venture that is made with a lot of sensualism, religion and love. It deserves a watch for the efforts that the team has put into it. Though there are scenes where one might question the laws of science, the fictitious story overrides those questions.

Zero movie review: Shah Rukh Khan blasts off into a very strange space
Zero movie review: shah rukh khan is magic in aanand l rai’s film, katrina kaif and anushka sharma are charming. rating: 3.5/5..
Babita Kumari storms out of her bathtub. The movie star is late for a public appearance and has decided to go as is, alarming her handler who frantically interjects, asking about her clothes, hair and makeup. She sticks to her t-shirt and boxer shorts, wears her hair down, and then declares herself so fair she doesn’t need to care about makeup. The heroine is a hot mess, and played as she is by Katrina Kaif, there’s the heft of honesty to the line about her complexion. India would let a fair-skinned girl get away with murder — or at least lipsticklessness. Zero is a film about preconceived notions.
One of Babita’s biggest fans is Bauua Singh, a man from Meerut who showers the movie screen with banknotes and yells, “Bring on all three of your Khans, here I stand meri jaan.” Shah Rukh Khan — one of the three Khans Bauua challenges — plays this coarse and cocksure dwarf, defined by defiance. His outlook is devil-may-care because he believes god has already done his worst.
Watch video review here:
Directed by Aanand L Rai, Zero is for those who don’t fit in. It is a strange film, one that lets Shah Rukh Khan do what he does best — by way of swooning overture — but also a film that takes him where we wouldn’t expect. Zero becomes odder and odder as it goes along, and while the end is impossible to take seriously, the entire film is meant to be a fable. Even in the movies, it is the misfits who stand out.
Like too many of us, Bauua Singh is bred on the movies. When told he isn’t sophisticated, he claims to have watched enough English movies to feign class. In one scene, where Singh is bursting at the seams to break into a dance, he barks for a Shammi or Rishi number, neither of which the DJ has. A ballroom awaits. His entire body wriggles with anticipation, for this Hindi movie man cannot possibly make a grand romantic gesture without song. His final instruction to the DJ is plaintive: play any damn Kapoor song. It’ll work.
And it does.
Anushka Sharma plays a NASA scientist named Aafia Yusufzai Bhinder — in a nod to Malala— and she can’t help marvel at this impudent man. Singh, like Bart Simpson, calls his father by name, and is as rude. Khan, however, renders obnoxiousness loveable, and his character’s biggest win with the scientist may be the lack of pity for her cerebral palsy. To Bauua, she’s a girl who didn’t give him the time of day, which astonishes him, since everyone stares at the dwarf; his own father suggests he be used as a sideshow attraction. To her, he is a massive change from the deference she has earned, and the overcompensating politeness she routinely faces due to her condition. Soon, the lady is drunk on him. Even the name Bauua, from her struggling mouth, sounds like a burp.
There is more to this little man besides insolence. He’s magic. He looks up at the stars and swipes at them dismissively — as if toying with intergalactic Tinder — and as he counts down from 10 to nothing and waves a finger, stationary stars turn into shooting ones. Now this isn’t a trick he can do much with, but it does dazzle his outer space lady who fears what moons this man may shatter if he so casually breaks stars.
The first half of Zero is flat-out fantastic, an unabashed charm-offensive from Rai, Khan and the film’s writer Himanshu Sharma. The dialogues crackle with spontaneity and inventiveness. Bauua Singh is routinely whipped by his father (a superbly grumpy Tigmanshu Dhulia) and when this threat is made with the family lying under the stars, Singh asks ifhis father now wears a belt with his boxers or if he now intends to whip him with the naada, the elastic band holding up the shorts. Sticks and stones don’t hurt this hero, though names go some way in denting him.
It is as the film continues, and gets more fanciful, that the seams start to show. Rai is aiming high with this fable, but gets caught up in issues characteristic of his cinema. The film threatens to become yet another romanticisation of an obsessive hero who refuses to go away, and to take no for an answer. Rai aces the small-town milieu, but as the film outgrows Meerut, its wit dries up while the drama heightens. This is where the film should have embraced the lunacy and gone entirely bonkers. The melodramatic approach robs Zero of its essential lightness, and the metaphor becomes clumsier. Yet there is something fascinating at heart: a woman, tired of a man, literally imposes space on him.
Sharma infuses a sense of pride into her character, a scientist who has given her heart away, and only lets her vulnerability slip out in glances: in the way she looks at Khan when cradling his face, say, or the way she desperately laughs in order to prod happiness out of her distraught father. Her speech patterns are a bit inconsistent, but one can’t doubt Sharma’s commitment to the part. Kaif, meanwhile, plays an intensely self-aware part, that of the lovelorn, cheated-upon superstar, and the actress has infectious amounts of fun giving her vainglorious character a serrated edge.
Shah Rukh Khan measures up. The visual effects lack continuity and he looks more like a dwarf in some scenes than others, his deformity sometimes more pronounced while he looks like a spookily smooth tiny-Khan in other sequences. The actor glosses over this with a dominating performance and tremendous energy. Bauaa Singh is a severely flawed character made irresistible by his pluck, and it’s remarkable how much Khan brings to the part. And he remains the best lover in the business.
Ladies, enforce your knees. He might be wearing an outlandish Dhoom 3 costume, he might have hair like Razzaq Khan, and speak in English so fractured it doesn’t let him lie about his age. Still that Shah Rukh charm is dashed hard to deny, and, as he boasts to his lover in the film, those dimples aren’t store-bought. This is why romantics across the country are safe no matter how limited the DJ’s repertoire. Any Shah Rukh Khan song will do

Zero movie review: A thrilling ride into the unknown
Direction: Shiv Mohaa
Cast: Ashwin Kakumanu, Shivada, Chakravarthy, Ravi Raghavendhar
Zero, starring Ashwin Kakumanu and Sshivada Nair, is an engaging horror-fantasy that can leave you guessing all the way through. The premise is easy enough to understand: the wife of a recently married couple begins to have inexplicable changes in her behavior to the point of becoming crazy. The cause behind this seems hard to ascertain, and although initially one could trace it out to her loony mother, that still doesn’t explain the sudden moody outbursts. Perhaps, is there something more to this? Something a bit more ominous. By trying to answer this, Zero explores territories that are strange, twisted and outlandish to the human mind.
Bala’s (Ashwin) professional life is connected to working for a social cause. He marries Priya (Sshivvada), who is an orphan. Her deceased mom has had an history of mental instability, to the point of her husband abandoning her. Parentless and all by herself, Priya too is heading towards the same path - a path where science probably doesn’t have an explanation. Despite reservations from Bala’s dad, he nonetheless goes through with the marriage and the duo begin life anew.
Director Shiv Mohaa had other plans though. Instead of letting the film play out as a psychological horror-thriller, he weaves in a biblical narrative that have consequences which even the gods would not have foreseen. The storyline is rather vague in the first half and something is always amiss. This is further reinforced by events such as Solomon(Chakravarthy) professing to speak to his deceased wife Andrea when in reality, he’d have required a checkup at a mental asylum. Priya too hears noises. Sees things that aren’t there. Sleepwalks. Her desolation is clearly visible, and she has the air of carrying the sins of multiple lifetimes. What happens to the couple and why she behaves the way she does forms the reminder of the film.
The direction and the camerawork have played a large part is creating this ambience. The setup reveals the characters at their most uncertain, keeping us on the edge in turn. Additionally, Ashwin and Sshivada have backed this up with solid performances. They have starkly different roles, as one is sober and in touch with reality and the other often is consumed by a fiery disposition. And this works surprisingly well.
The age-old problem of predictability begins to set in as the second half commences though. Although the supernatural element allows for such sharp twists as the director had made, it also takes the edge of the horror and terror that was felt in the 1st half. The realities of making such a film is also hard to maintain: the script takes off exponentially in the supernatural realm, whereas the resources required to recreate that is just too high.
In the end, Zero is a thrilling ride into the unknown. A discrepancy between what’s on paper and the final output renders the make-believe aspect a little less convincing. Still, it is a new experience for the audience.

An attempt at infinity.

Zero is certainly that rare film where the audience is unsure where it will go next.
While that film was bold enough to end on a nihilistic note, Zero sticks to its romantic outlook. Somehow, the latter view doesn't feel satisfying. But most importantly, as the ambition of the plot keeps getting bigger and bigger, the film struggles to match up to it visually. By the time the film e... (more)

Zero Movie Review
Last friday, along with Thozha, Zero, a Sci-fi movie featuring Ashwin, Sshivada Nair , JD Chakravarthy, Ravi Ragavendra was released. The movie was written and directed by Shiv Mohaa. Nivas K. Prasann has scored music. Babu Kumar crafted excellent cinematography.
Madhav Media Entertainments produced the project and it was distributed by Blue Ocean Entertainment and Sri Thenndal Films. The movie is a suspense thriller and has received good feedbacks from many celebrities who have watched it. The lead actors’ performance, script and narration were flawless.
The movie was shaped with just six characters and the director seems to have strong belief on his script and technicians. The director right from the beginning till the end has made a superb screenplay and the movie is filled with more thrilling moments and fictions and they have captured the minds of the audience/
Ashwin and Sshivada both have proved their individuality and Ashwin has acted as a social worker and also as a caring husband who loves and takes care of his wife Sshivada Nair. The female lead has done a great job in scary scenes and has also acted excellently in romantic scenes too. JD Chakravarthy has performed well and his body language was good. Thulasi and Ravi Ragavendar have done justice in their part.
The newly wedded couples Ashwin and Sshivada Nair moves to an apartment where his wife was caught by some mental illness and Ashwin takes care of his wife. She has the problem since her childhood days. There is lot of twists and suspense in the movie. The director has given an awesome making, Nivas has rocked with his excellent music, and the cinematography work was also done fantastic manner.
Overall, Zero is a welcome note to Tamil cinema!

Zero is a romantic thriller with supernatural elements in it. Let’s see how the movie has turned out.
Star Performances
Ashwin plays the role of a doting husband with conviction. Sshivada has got a meaty role (one who is finding hard to draw a line of demarcation between realism and fantasy) to play, and she does full justice to her role. J. D. Chakravarthy impresses us with his comic touch and body language. Ravi Raghavendar and Thulasi have done a neat job.
Zero is a blend of realism and dreams, and the director Sihv Mohaa has managed to handle the horror elements well.
What’s there?
- The horror dimension is executed well in the movie.
- The movie seems to be well-researched.
- The voiceover of ace director Gautam Menon is commendable.
- BGM of Nivas K Prasanna is excellent. Also, his music, especially the songs Uyire Un Uyirena and Engae Ponaai, deserve special mention.
- Babu Kumar’s cinematography is appealing.
- Editing of Sudharshan is topnotch.
What’s not there?
- Some sequences may test your patience.
- Sometimes we are not able to understand what is happening.
- The screenplay is written such that the movie takes its own time in unraveling things.
Zero will be a different experience for the Tamil movie-goers. Can very well go for it.

Zero movie review: Preposterous drivel
Zero movie review: zero fails spectacularly at giving us anything we can believe in, and we go from start to finish, with disbelief growing with each passing frame..
Zero movie cast: Anushka Sharma, Katrina Kaif, Shah Rukh Khan, Abhay Deol, R Madhavan, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Sheeba Chaddha, Brijendra Kala, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub Zero movie director: Aanand L Rai Zero movie rating: 1 star
Rarely has a film aroused so much curiosity as Zero. Even those who stay away from the blitzkrieg of pre-release publicity, knew that in his latest, Shah Rukh Khan was playing a vertically challenged character. He does. Bauua Singh, four feet six inches, is a mini-me SRK, and that he does look so close to the ground, with even middling tall people towering over him, is impressive VFX for Bollywood.
The trouble with Zero is not just that the mini-me SRK is just SRK minus the inches. Every twitch is familiar: the tousled hair, commonplace air, the regular joe who wears ‘kachcha-banian’. We saw this SRK last in Fan. In that one, we bought him. In Zero, we don’t, because Bauua is always the Hero, accompanied by a best friend (Ayyub) whose only job is to prop up Bauua, who is enmeshed in a love triangle, who soars over his difficulties while singing and dancing and romancing. That vertically challenged bit should have been the differentiator. But it’s nothing but window dressing, a hook on which hangs nothing.
The bigger trouble is that the film doesn’t quite know what to do with its characters once it has them. The writing is all over the place, and everything is so choppy, that the characters all appear to float in their own bubbles, without any palpable connection with each other: they talk at each other, not to each other.
I suppose I would have got past these issues if the film had made me feel. The only thing I felt was dismay, because of the relentlessness of the drivel we are subjected to almost all the way through, as the long-drawn film meanders from Meerut to Mars via Mumbai .
In the beginning, you relate, because you see Bauua the ‘bauna’ having a tough time finding his groove, always tussling with mum (Chaddha) and dad (Dhulia). You relate too when Bauua show flashes of rage at his situation, and lashes out at people. But all too soon, the film abandons its minimal air of rootedness, and flees towards preposterousness.
Challenged people in challenging circumstances trying to find intimacy is a great premise, especially if there is awareness of how ‘out- of- the- norm’ people are forced to deal with so-called normal people. And Zero could have done it thrice over, because Aafia (Sharma), one of its female characters, is a wheelchair-bound NASA scientist with cerebral palsy. The other is a reigning film star called Babita (Kaif) who shows her hurt, vulnerable side, in a couple of unvarnished moments.

But Zero fails spectacularly at giving us anything we can believe in, and we go from start to finish, with disbelief growing with each passing frame. Every so often, Zero comes close to substance, as when Dhulia’s dark feelings for his son rise to the surface, as when the son reciprocates with visceral dislike, as when a Muslim character says something about the difficulties of ‘Musalmaan ka visa lagwaana’ in today’s India. But each time, the sharpness is abandoned for fear of alienating those who seek comfort in worn cliches.
We wait for more sharpness, because SRK is capable of channeling it. We wait for insights into just how difficult being out of the norm can be. In vain. Characters uses the word ‘normal’ (as opposed to the ‘abnormal’ shortness and vocal slurriness exhibited by its principal characters) without realising just how insensitive it sounds. The rest is soft-focus blather.
This could have been a film for the ages. How many times do we see A-list Bollywood superstars go out of their comfort zone? SRK could have taken a deep dive into Bauua and emerged on another level: there is no one else who aces the lover-and-the-joker with as much self-awareness as he does. But he gets busy trying to do another Swades, and fly the flag, and be a patriot. In trying to do everything, very little is achieved.

5/10. Zero (2016) santhosh-10290 19 October 2018. Good movie. Everyone acted very well in the movie. The team had done many hard works in the movie. The movie was so entertaining till the 1st half but after the 1st half the movie lagged a lot with some unwanted scenes. The climax can be more better in the movie.

Babu Kumar crafted excellent cinematography. Madhav Media Entertainments produced the project and it was distributed by Blue Ocean Entertainment and Sri Thenndal Films. The movie is a suspense thriller and has received good feedbacks from many celebrities who have watched it. The lead actors' performance, script and narration were flawless.
Zero strains for sweep and scale. The visual language suggests a glamorous fairy tale. The VFX is convincing and I loved the Ajay-Atul ballad Mere Naam Tu. But the rest of this film left me stumped and eventually, sad. Because when artists take such ambitious creative risks, you are really rooting for them to succeed.
