Essay on My City in 100 words

The city in which I live is New Delhi. It is one of the most populated cities and is famous for its remarkable structures. Each day millions of tourists from around the world come and experience my city, its rich culture and brilliant architecture such as Qutub Minar, built by Qutb-Din-Aibak, Red Fort, etc. My city is of great historical importance too. It has been the centre of many previous empires and now it is the capital of India. I very much love my city and once I grow up and become a successful person, I would love to keep living in this city with my family and friends.

My city, New Delhi is the one where I was born and brought up. It is one of the busiest cities in the country. It is crowded and has a lot market places such as Lajpat Nagar, Sarojini Nagar, Connaught Place, etc. which have visitors in thousands daily.

Delhi is home to many recognised educational Institutions such as the University of Delhi which is known for its brilliant education and colleges such as Kirori Mal College, Miranda House, etc. Students from all over the country land their dream jobs and institutes in Delhi. Various MNCs such as Microsoft and Google have their offices in my city. Hence, a large population resides here and provides services.

However, one major drawback of living in my city would be the pollution. New Delhi is one of the most populated cities in the world because of all the developmental projects and construction projects being run at the same time. The morning and evening commute traffic adds to this on a major part as well.

Since there are plenty of opportunities for individuals, people from all around the country relocate to Delhi and with them, they bring their own culture which adds to the diversity of my city. Although I do wish that the government would be a little more conscious of the alarming pollution levels, I still love my city with all my heart.

My city, New Delhi, which I proudly call home, has been a centre of culture, trade, art, and architecture for centuries now. The population here is over 1 crore. New Delhi is situated on the banks of the Yamuna River. It has been more than 18 years that I have been living in this city. Now, since the population is very much, most of the people in Delhi live in apartments. Many highlights make my city one of the best in the country such as:-

A Heaven for Food Lovers

When you hear of Delhi, one of the most anticipated foods associated with it is the Parathas from the Paratha Gali of Chandni Chowk. Delhi is very much known for its food. Be it momos from the mom stands in Lajpat Nagar, or the Chicken from the chicken stalls of Jama Masjid, tourists and visitors from all around the country and the world come to taste the same. From roadside street food to lavish expensive restaurants, my city has it all.

Places to See

My city has many malls, cafes, parks and marketplaces to explore. All of these are flocked by visitors. It remains a big hustle and bustle city the whole day. It is an urban centre in its true sense.

An Urban Centre

New Delhi is home to a vast network of Metro which covers the entire NCR. it is one of the most effective public transportation systems and lakhs of people use the same on an everyday basis.

One other public transport system includes travelling in buses which is a part of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).

Things I Love About Delhi

Some of the things that I love about my city are mentioned below:-

I explored the different bazaars and many other places such as Connaught Place etc with my friends.
One of the best of my city to visit is the Delhi Zoo. it has an amazing variety of animals of all kinds. My favourite animal in the zoo is the majestic lion. Also, I love watching different parrots there as well. They are so vibrant.
I love travelling by Metro, It’s fast, it’s clean, it’s affordable.

Although the pollution levels are alarming in my city, I still love it. It has so much more to offer and it’s a beautiful place to live. I have formed many memories here and will continue to do so in the future as I can never part with New Delhi, my city.

I live in New Delhi. It is one of the most populated cities in India. My city is famous for its remarkable architecture. My city also has great historical importance. It has been the centre of many previous empires, and even now, it is the capital of India. I love my city, and in the future, after becoming a successful person, I would like to live in this city with my family and friends.

I was born and brought up in New Delhi. My city is one of the busiest cities in the country. Delhi is crowded and filled with marketplaces such as Sarojini Nagar and Connaught Place, which are flocked by thousands of shoppers daily.

Education And Work | Delhi also has many educational institutes and coaching centres. Students from all over the country come here to prepare for their dream jobs. Many huge multinational companies like Google and Microsoft have their offices here and therefore it has a large working population that lives here and provides their services.

New Delhi, the city I proudly call my home, has been a centre of art, architecture, culture, and trade for centuries. It has a population of over one crore and is situated on the banks of the Yamuna river. I have been living in this city for 18 years. Since the population is huge, most of us in Delhi live in apartments built in high-rise buildings.

An Urban Centre

The city is closely woven with a vast metro network connecting it to other metropolises in the National Capital Region. My city has an effective public transportation system, and lakhs of people travel by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses and the metro, on a daily basis. A major part of the population of my city consists of the younger generation studying in colleges or working in offices.

Places To See

There are many other marketplaces in my city. New Delhi also has many malls, cafés, and parks. The parks in my city are lovely, such as the Lodhi Garden, Central Park, and the Garden of Five Senses, and are always flocked by visitors.

New Delhi remains a big hustle and bustle the whole day, even at midnight. It is an urban centre in the true sense.

Architecture

Delhi has a rich history and numerous monuments, such as mosques, forts, and mausoleums. Places such as India Gate, Red Fort, Jantar Mantar, and Jama Masjid are architectural marvels and have great historical importance. Many great rulers and historically important figures have their tombs in my city. Delhi is also home to the Rashtrapati Bhavan and the Parliament of India. I am always left in awe whenever I visit these monuments.

Foodies’ Heaven

Delhi is famous for its food. Parathas from the Paratha Gali in Chandni Chowk, Momos in Lajpat Nagar, and chicken stalls in Jama Masjid are enjoyed by tourists and visitors worldwide. From roadside stalls to lavish and expensive restaurants, you can always find good food in my city, for your taste buds to relish. My favourite food is the momos, famous as “Delhi ke momos” in the country.

What I Love About Delhi

Although there is hardly anything about Delhi that I do not like, here are a few things I love the most about my city:-

I love travelling by metro. The metro in my city is very clean, fast, and affordable. I love to explore my city.

I have explored the bazaars and many of my favourite places numerous times with my friends. Likewise, I am particularly fond of the Sarojini Market in my city because it has cheap clothes and great food stalls.

The best place in my city is the Delhi zoo. I love watching different kinds of animals. My favourite animal in the zoo is the giraffe. I also like watching different types of birds.

Despite the problem of alarming pollution levels, I love my city for what it is. It still is a beautiful place to live and has so much to offer, being the capital of India. My city has played a huge role in making me the person I am today. It has been home of my parents and grandparents for years. I have fond memories of my city which I can never part away with. Everything about my city is cherishable and unique to me.

Chandigarh is where I live. This is my home and I was born and raised here. I live in the most beautiful city in the country. Haryana and Punjab are both union territories of India and it is both their capitals.

My Favorite City Chandigarh

In fact, Chandigarh is India’s first planned city. Its origins can be traced back to the period following independence. When India was partitioned, Punjab was likewise split. Lahore, the capital of Punjab, was incorporated into the newly formed Pakistan and the state was thus left without a capital. Chandigarh was planned as a capital for Punjab. Eastern Punjab was divided into two states in 1966. As a result, it came to be known as Haryana. Chandigarh is the capital of both Punjab and Haryana.

Chandigarh City – Planned and Organized

Chandigarh is known for its well-planned cityscape. All over the world, it is admired for its design and architecture. Pt. Devendranath, the then Indian Prime Minister, had visualized it as his dream city. A special care was taken to build the building that was built by Jawahar Lal Nehru.

It was designed by Albert Mayer, a prominent American architect. This city’s architecture is credited to popular French architect Le Corbusier. In the city, there are different sectors, and each sector has its own market and residential area. There are many beautiful trees in the city. Sector 1 of Chandigarh contains the artificial lake Sukhna Lake that is the city’s main attraction. A popular spot in the city since 1958, it was created in 1958. It has been built with a systematic approach by the people of Chandigarh.

It is not just that the city is well designed, but it is also kept very clean in every aspect. You won’t find any litter around as you would in other parts of the country. The police are extremely vigilant in the city when it comes to traffic. Here, breaking traffic rules is not allowed. All levels of discipline are maintained. Here, life is peaceful and harmonious.

Sukhna Lake – My Favourite Spot

Sukhna Lake is my favorite place in the city. Every day, the place becomes more happening. Mornings here are completely different from evenings. It’s peaceful and serene in the morning because the air is fresh. There is no better place to unwind and relax. Evenings are busy with boaters and snackers taking advantage of the lake’s amenities.

Children have also been provided with electronic swings. During the evening hours, the place is bustling with activity. It’s a great place to go out with friends and family. Both early morning and evening are convenient times for me to visit the location. Whether it is peaceful, quiet or crowded, I love it all.

My city is more than just my home. It is my lifeline. I would like to live here for the rest of my life. Any other city would not be as peaceful and happy for me.

Essay on My Favorite City For Children

I moved with my father to a new city when I was a young child. We have moved as many as four times since I was a child. Until I moved to Jaipur, I never thought there would be one place I could truly call home. We moved to this place less than two years ago, but it feels like home already.

Say what you want about Austin—and woe to the jaded mud-stick who would feign having already heard it all—but it is far and away the reigning champion of the Iconic Texas City sweepstakes. The Space Age cachet that Houston exuded in the 1960s and 1970s via Mission Control and the Astrodome (the 50th birthday of which was celebrated April 9), and the international gloss that TV’s Dallas wrangled for its namesake in the ’80s, gave way in the ’90s (was it Linklater’s Slacker , in 1991, that cemented the vibe?) to the supposedly laid-back cool that currently makes Austin, in the national imagination, the state’s preeminent possessor of cultural capital.

The timing of Austin’s ascent is curious, given that the ATX of the 1990s was already coasting, image-wise, largely on the fumes of a scene burned in the 1970s. But nostalgia for progressively earlier and purer iterations of Austin has been officially sanctioned civic sport since they changed the name from Waterloo. Texans here and far have been playing love/hate patty-cake with Austin for so long that even the backlashes have backlashes.

Austin has become one of not very many American cities that amount to the metropolitan world’s equivalent of the conservation world’s charismatic megafauna. In other words: No one cares if some blind, cave-dwelling cricket in Kentucky gets smushed; let’s save a polar bear. Likewise: Who gives a shit about Houston? Austin is such an amazing music town!

Recent books capitalizing on the collective fascination with all things Austin run the gamut from the execrable ( 100 Things to Do in Austin Before You Die ; self-published) to the memorial ( Austin City Limits: A History ; Oxford University Press). Never mind the glib parade of Best-City-For listicles forever spilling out of Forbes and Fast Company . If you’ve been here a month, you know the routine: breakfast tacos, paddle-boarders, Barton Springs, ACL Fest, lines for barbecue, oversaturated pics of Hamilton Pool, etc., ad nauseam.

It takes a more interesting writer than most to wring juice from the long-wrung rag that is Austin’s self-regard. It turns out that that writer, David Heymann, is professionally, primarily, an architect. Heymann took degrees from Cooper Union and Harvard before coming to Austin to teach at the University of Texas, and is probably most famous as the designer of George W. and Laura Bush’s environmentally sensitive ranch home near Crawford.

I don’t know if Heymann is a good architect; the Bushes still haven’t invited me to Prairie Chapel Ranch. But he’s got a way with words, and this, his first book, is a bracing tonic for the ongoing flood of sentimental, snarky and just plain stupid writing about Texas’ capital. Start with that title: My Beautiful City Austin . It’s an odd phrase titling an odd book. Odd because it lacks a verb, or—if maybe the phrase is supposed to connote some sort of answer—a question. It lacks any obvious use in a sentence, and in that regard it floats free, intriguingly unmoored.

That lack of firm definition befits a book that fits no easy category. Its author calls it fiction, but you could lose a lot of money making bets on what that even means anymore, and, in any case, My Beautiful City Austin is no novel in any traditional sense. Nor—despite some tempting apparent parallels—is it any usual sort of memoir. It’s not quite an essay, or essays, either. It might pass in a pinch for a collection of short stories. It has seven chapters and 161 pages. Call it what you will.

What’s interesting about it, at least to this reader, has less to do with narrative structure or even with character—though Heymann sketches some memorable ones—than with an element sorely lacking from much contemporary fiction, or writing of any sort, for that matter: criticism.

Heymann—an architect who describes himself as “interested in what people want from nature”—has here invented a young architect at near-constant odds with the worst instincts of his clients. He arrives in town to find those instincts most painfully visible in Austin’s western hills:

“Oh man! There were these kids in high school who would suddenly, from one day to the next, be assaulted by a kind of virulent, weeping, unrestrainable acne. Whereas before there had been a hot hairy emptiness, now as far west as you could see these steroidal houses, huge and tall and gross and unseemly and pretentious, were erupting out of the cedar forest like a horrid skin condition, an outburst of limestone whiteheads. The hills on the northern horizon were carpeted with a vast eczema of limestone slathered starter mansions, cheek by jowl, spreading southward unchecked.”

But Heymann’s fictional doppelgänger is no plain crank, and he doesn’t have the status to dictate. He is, in a sense, as pragmatic as the client who “vetoed every good-looking built-in refrigerator for one that would fit a large pizza box.”

“… [E]verything in architecture,” he admits, “all authority and identity, stems from having work. … I decided that my disappointment was the first sign of becoming old badly, like complaining about computers or cell phones.”

“So,” the next chapter begins, “I started making houses for the newly wealthy.”

In the process, of course, the young architect becomes a knowing accomplice in erasing the charm of a city whose most pressing threat is its own popularity, and a central character in the long-running story of Austin as a place that we ruin just by being here.

Like all good takedowns, My Beautiful City Austin is also a not-even-thinly veiled love letter and a coming-to-terms with its narrator’s own disenchantment. Upon his first view of Austin, “It’s as if the city as a discrete and powerful whole had welled up from the bottom of some still stream or lake and roiled the surface before vanishing, leaving in its wake only an image of desire.” Years later, our hero finds that he has created a house that is “nothing you could even photograph without shame.”

This is an intensely engaging book, the record of a writer intensely engaged with his subject. It flows from a position of taste and discrimination, and it requires the engagement of a reader’s discernment in return. In that sense, My Beautiful City Austin may not be for everyone.

If you don’t enjoy dry put-downs unaccompanied by faux self-deprecation, then you may not enjoy My Beautiful City Austin . If you are, say, a chiropractor, you may leave the book thinking that Heymann is kind of a dick. If you’re reflexively suspicious of chiropractors—or enjoy mocking people who wear aggressively architectural eyeglasses, or who call neighborhood meetings to collectively vet residential home designs in Hyde Park, or who poison old oaks to clear a view over Town Lake—you might decide that you enjoy the company quite a lot. My Beautiful City Austin is not anodyne, and bless it for that.

Say what you will about Austin, but no other city in Texas could have inspired quite this book. And that’s all the proof anyone should need that beneath all the talk, beyond any backlash, there remains a city fully and continuingly capable of inspiring love and hate and—most encouraging—art.

My father has a transferable job and hence we are always on a move. We have changed as many as four cities since my childhood. I never thought that there would be any one city that I would really be able to call home until I moved to Jaipur. It has been just two years that we have shifted to this place but it feels like home already.

I love everything about this place – from the house we have rented for accommodation to my school, from my neighbourhood to the local markets, from the beautiful monuments to the delectable food. Everything here is just amazing. But what I like the most about this city is the people here.

Lucknow is known for its markets, its scrumptious food, beautiful monuments and. My favourite spots in Lucknow are the Imam Bara, Marine Drive, Hazrat Ganj market and Bhootnath market. I have a lot of fond memories of these places.

I have visited Imam Bara quite a few times. The first time I visited this place with my parents when I was very young. A few years later I visited the place as a part of my school excursion. We also went to the place when my maternal aunt and cousins visited us. I can visit Imam Bara over and over again and still not get bored.

We often visited marine drive in the evening. A stroll by the river side was extremely rejuvenating. I also loved shopping trips to Bhootnath and Hazrat Ganj markets with my mother. We both love shopping and the variety of things we got there was just amazing.

I just can’t wait to be in the city of Nawabs yet again. I am craving to have the delicious kabab roles and korma of Lucknow. I also want to visit all my favourite places in the city and meet my old friends.

The discipline is maintained at every level. People live in peace and harmony here.

Sukhna Lake – My Favourite Spot

My favourite spot in the city is of course Sukhna Lake. The place is becoming happening by the day. The atmosphere here in the morning is completely different compared to that in the evening. In the morning, the place is calm and serene filled with fresh air. It is the best place to relax and unwind. In the evening, it is crowded with people enjoying boat rides and having snacks. Electronic swings have also been installed for children. The place is full of hustle and bustle during the evening hours. It is a good place to go out with friends as well as family. I can visit the place early morning as well as in the evening. I love it when it is calm and quite as well as when it is full of people.

Chandigarh is not just my city, it is my lifeline. I wish to spend all my life here. I don’t think I will be able to live as happily and peacefully in any other city.

It is said that Humayun’s Tomb is a replica of the marvellous Taj Mahal. It is made with red sandstone and white marble. The tomb is an example of the Persian style of Islamic architecture. The tomb is 47 metres high and 91 metres wide and is surrounded by beautiful Persian-style garden.

Lotus Temple

Akshar Dham Temple is a place of devotion and purity. It is the latest addition in the list of monuments in Delhi. It was opened for public in the year 2005. Besides the beautifully carved temple and other marvellous buildings, the Akshar Dham complex includes lush green gardens and water bodies.

I have been to all these places and can visit these over and over again. I have beautiful memories of these places.

Man charged with fatally shooting 13-year-old in Mattapan seeks new lawyer

T he man charged with fatally shooting 13-year-old Tyler Lawrence on a Mattapan street last year wants a judge to appoint a new lawyer to represent him, writing in court papers that his current attorney “doesn’t have my best interest at hand.”

Csean Alexander Skerritt , 35, who was acquitted in an unrelated murder case in 2017, said in a handwritten motion filed late last month in Suffolk Superior Court that he’s dissatisfied with the work of his current lawyer, David A. Leon.

“If it pleases the court, I, Csean Skerritt, would ask to be assigned a new court appointed lawyer to represent me,” Skerritt wrote in his motion, adding that Leon “doesn’t have my best interest at hand & isn’t active enough in producing discovery.”

A hearing on his request is scheduled for Tuesday. Leon didn’t immediately return voice and email messages seeking comment.

Skerritt has pleaded not guilty to murder and weapons charges in the slaying of Lawrence, who was gunned down on Babson Street on the morning of Jan. 29, 2023. Lawrence lived with his mother in Norwood and was visiting his grandparents in Mattapan when he was killed.

During Skerritt’s arraignment in Superior Court in March 2023 , Assistant District Attorney Julie S. Higgins said it took him one minute and 11 seconds to walk up to Lawrence, shoot him five times at close range, and flee.

Authorities haven’t disclosed a motive for the slaying, which shocked the city. Skerritt is being held without bail.

Higgins also described Skerritt’s movements on the morning Lawrence was killed, drawing on video surveillance, 911 calls, and a gunshot detection system.

Skerritt left his home in Chelsea just after 11 a.m. and headed into Boston driving a black Infiniti SUV, Higgins said. His vehicle was captured on surveillance video in Dorchester at about 11:23 a.m. and in Mattapan about four minutes later, she said.

Meanwhile, Lawrence had left his grandparents’ home just after 11:20 a.m, and was walking through the neighborhood, Higgins said. At 11:30 a.m., Skerritt parked on Fremont Street, got out of his car, and headed toward the intersection with Babson Street, she said.

Lawrence was on the other side of the road, walking in the opposite direction. At 11:31, shots were fired, according to the detection system. Skerritt allegedly fired five rounds in less than two seconds, Higgins said.

Nine seconds after the final shot, Skerritt took off running toward the spot on Fremont Street where he parked his SUV, Higgins said. He then met his girlfriend at a two-family home at the corner of Fremont Street and Faunce Road, a block away from where Lawrence was shot, Higgins wrote in court papers.

Skerritt has a long criminal history, with juvenile convictions for armed assault with intent to rob, assault with a dangerous weapon using a baseball bat, carjacking, and receiving stolen property, Higgins said at his arraignment.

In 2006, Skerritt, then 17, was committed to the Department of Youth Services until he turned 21 after he admitted to stabbing a worker in the chest at a Walgreens in Somerville. The attack nearly killed the worker, who needed 46 staples for his wounds, records show.

As an adult, Skerritt has been convicted twice of firearms offenses and prosecuted for attacks on correction officers in Plymouth and Boston, records show. In 2017, he was acquitted in the shooting death of Julien Printemps in Dorchester.

In February 2023, Lawrence was honored during a memorial service in Norwood, where he was remembered as a kindhearted child.

“This was a boy who was going to have a big impact on the world,” said Toffer Winslow, a former mentor to Tyler in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. “He was going to be a force for good.”

Skerritt’s trial is slated to begin in November.
