Teaching Tools for Summer Math Programs

Table of contents.

summer math assignments

Summer math programs can pose a challenge for both teachers and students. With a fast-paced schedule and the need to cover multiple topics each day, it's essential to have the right tools to ensure student success. ASSISTments is here to support teachers in overcoming these challenges and making the most of their summer math programs.

Quickly move through high volume content

One of the biggest challenges of teaching a summer math program is the high volume of content that needs to be covered in a short amount of time. ASSISTments can help by providing immediate and actionable data through the assignment report . This data allows teachers to quickly pinpoint areas where students need additional support without having to process a large volume of student work manually. Teachers can then leverage the content library to create custom problem sets tailored to the specific needs of their students, ensuring that each student gets the support they need to succeed.

summer math assignments

Identify learning gaps & drive instruction early in the semester

Another challenge of a math summer program is that students may enter the classroom at different levels of understanding. ASSISTments can help by allowing teachers to assign a custom assignment as a pre-assessment at the beginning of the summer. This assessment can help identify which standards need to be prioritized for each student, allowing teachers to drive instructional decisions that meet the needs of all students. Teachers can then create customized problem sets based on the ASSISTments data from the pre-assessment, ensuring that each student is challenged at the appropriate level.

Switch up your classroom routine to keep your students engaged all summer

Keeping students engaged during a shorter semester can be a challenge. ASSISTments can help by giving teachers the flexibility to switch up their classroom routine. Teachers can give students the opportunity to work independently or in groups on online assignments , allowing for a break from traditional classroom instruction. Additionally, teachers can leverage common wrong answers to spark class discussions that increase student understanding of key concepts and skills.

Swap scoring piles of paper assignments for immediate feedback

Scoring assignments in summer math programs can be time-consuming. ASSISTments can help by providing immediate feedback to students, allowing teachers to spend less time on scoring and more time on designing interventions that address student learning gaps. This immediate feedback not only saves time but also helps students stay engaged and aware of their learning progress throughout the summer.

Summer school presents unique challenges, but with the right tools and support, teachers can make the most of this time to help students succeed. ASSISTments is here to support teachers every step of the way, from quickly moving through high-volume content to identifying learning gaps and driving instruction. With ASSISTments, teachers can keep their students engaged, provide immediate feedback, and ensure that each student gets the support they need to succeed in summer school and beyond.

Summer Assignments

  2023-24 School Year

Dear CCTS Student,

Welcome to Camden County Technical Schools! We are excited to have you as part of our learning community!

We hear how much traction students lose over the summer if they do not continue with some light work. Studies support the idea of continued review and learning as the best method to keep students progressing for the long term. The Mathematics and Science Summer Assignments are designed to retain your accomplishments from the previous year, prepare you for academic success in the upcoming year, and keep it simple in a time designed for vacation!

Below, you will find information related to your Summer Mathematics and Science assignments. All assignments are located on our CCTS website: www.ccts.net . Look for the link under the section titled “News and Announcements.” Here you can download and print from home!

Summer assignments are available for pick up at either the Pennsauken or Gloucester Township campus regardless of which one you will be attending in the fall. In addition, we will have teachers of each subject area available for support if needed during the times and dates listed below:

Teachers will expect all assignments to be completed prior to the start of school. Assignments, related quizzes, and projects from the summer assignments will count toward your 1 st marking period class grade.

Voorhees High School Math Department

Summer Assignments

Dear Students:

North Hunterdon High School and Voorhees High School Math teachers have created a summer math packet to practice and enhance your understanding of mathematics.

Students are encouraged to complete the summer math packets that correspond to their high school math placement level (CP, Adv, Honors, AP) and designated course.  In order to alleviate the stress for your child this summer, this packet will not be counted as a test or quiz grade for the first marking period as in previous years.  This packet will be counted as a minimal impact grade for the 1st marking period of the school year.  Teachers recommend that students attempt the packet in order to establish an understanding of what concepts students may need further instruction on this fall.  The packets are due on the first day of school.

The Mathematics Department considers this summer packet an important part in academic achievement and encourages you to take it seriously.  The packets for all math classes can be found on the North Hunterdon Math webpage ( http://www.nhvweb.net/nhhs/math/ ) and the Voorhees Math webpage ( http://www.nhvweb.net/vhs/math/ ).

We wish you a safe and enjoyable summer, and we look forward to continuing our tradition of academic excellence.

Jessica Cantagallo-Rohm Voorhees High School Assistant Principal
