The Country I Would Like To Visit – Italy (Essay Sample)

Whenever you ask a person about what they want to do the most in life, the most obvious reply they will give you is they want to travel the world. Every one of us has a fantasy to travel and explore the whole world. When you think about top countries to visit, Italy can never be overlooked. Italy is a beautiful country located in the south-central Europe region. It is rich with ancient history, culture, Italian art, and countless cuisines. Italy is home to the most number of UNESCO world heritage sites (55) in Europe. It is certainly a tourist destination that doesn’t require any introduction that is why it tops my list of countries that I want to visit. In this essay, I will explain why I would like to visit Italy before going anywhere else.

Italy is a top tourist destination that requires no introduction. It is quite difficult to find a better country to visit that is more diverse, multifaceted, and rich in culture and food like Italy. The amazing thing about this country is that every traveler will surely find something of interest in a country like Italy. This country is unbelievably rich in culture, ancient history, beautiful natural scenery, ancient ruins, majestic mountains, and amazing Italian cuisines to name a few. These are some of the reasons why Italy tops my list of countries that I would like to travel to. In this essay, I would try my best to make you fall in love with this country so that it becomes a top destination for you too.

Secondly, I would want to visit Italy because of the mouth-watering foods and delicious Italian cuisine. Italian cuisine is said to be the finest and rare delicacies when it comes to food. As a food lover, I would love to taste the wood-fired pizzas, Tuscan pasta, good house wine, Italian spaghetti, famous Italian tomato sauce, and all other Italian foods. It is no secret that Italy also has the best red wine in the world. People travel from all over the world to go and taste the fine red wine the country offers. The Chianti, Lombardy, and Piedmont vineyards are indeed some of the world’s best with unmatched consistency.

I would like to visit Italy because of the ancient art and culture the country has. Italy is home to the 55 UNESCO world heritage sites, which is more than any other country in Europe. 50 of these ancient landmarks are cultural and 5 of them are natural. When it comes to landmarks Italy is full of beautiful churches and wonderful museums that are just too good to be overlooked.  In fact, you can’t even move around Italy without bumping into one of the world’s heritage sites. The Papal kingdom, the Renaissance of noble families, and smaller cities like Florence are also very rich in ancient history and culture. These cities will take you on an ancient roller coaster and you will also start to feel like an archeologist.

When it comes to beautiful natural scenery there is nothing that can beat Italy. The country is blessed with natural beauty all around with soaring mountains, great beaches, picturesque lakes, and off-course the longest coastline among all the European countries. The whole country is just magnificent with mesmerizing views. That is just one of the reasons why I would love to visit the country of Italy.

It is impossible to talk about Italian history without mentioning the poets and artists like Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Donatello. Italy has the best crop of painters in the world. The pieces of art that Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo painted are currently worth millions of dollars. The ancient Roman ruins are also sites that I want to see. History is a big part of their culture and it played a key role in shaping Italy. It is also one of the reasons why I want to visit Italy before any other country

The Italian cities are also, for lack of a better word, legendary. The Italian cities boast modern as well as ancient looks which makes them unique and amazing at the same time. The beautiful cities of central Italy, southern Italy, and northern Italy add to the rich culture and traditions. Most popular Italian cities that include Venice, Rome, Cagliari, Siena, Florence, Naples, Genoa, Milan, and Palermo are all unique in their own way. Not to forget the beautiful yet small and independent Vatican city that is home to amazing architectural wonders like none other. As ancient as it sounds the city of Rome is home to the Colosseum that is one of the 7 wonders of the world. Rome is a city that is thousands of years older and is full of ancient history as well as archeological treasures. The roman empire is still known for the great roman army that ruled there for more than 1000 years. 

In conclusion, these are the reasons why I want to plan a visit to Italy before any other place in the world. It is truly a remarkable country filled with adventure, beautiful scenery, amazing restaurants, tasty cuisines, and ancient history that you don’t want to miss out on.

Italy is so rich in history that you can’t even walk around without bumping into one of its archeological treasures.

Secondly, Italy is home to the best restaurants in the world making it nothing less than a food heaven for food lovers. The Italian cuisine, Italian red wine, Italian cheese, and the world-famous gelato along with other seafood are hard to say no to. The cities of Italy including Venice, Rome, and the Vatican City are also very rich in culture and traditions. It’s surprising how different these cities are from each other and visiting each one is a different experience.

In conclusion, Italy should be your first choice whenever you get a chance to travel around the world. The country is nothing less of a treat for all your senses and you will also agree with me once you visit Italy yourself.

Japanese cuisine, renowned for its emphasis on freshness and seasonality, is another aspect I look forward to experiencing. Sushi, sashimi, and ramen are just the tip of the iceberg. Each region boasts its local specialties, offering a culinary journey through the flavors of Japan.

Many countries have interested me with their histories or natural beauty. But, Japan is the land of my dreams mainly because of its scenic beauty with trees and leaves and houses shaped like pagodas, which all made me close to this country. I am expecting I can visit it someday.

I got to know about the country in my high school classes. Our art teacher used to tell us stories about Japanese paper art in the form of origami characters and we even got a chance to learn it. It made me interested in this country’s culture and people. Apart from that, Japanese technologies have given the world enormous opportunities to explore, see and experience it.

Moreover, what incited me to visit this country is the mindset of the people of Japan. I wanted to witness first-hand how even after witnessing the greatest tragedy in the world – the nuclear bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki- the country has regained its footing on its own. It speaks truly of the strong willpower of the people of Japan that has remade the Country back to an economic power within a few years after the incident. I need to see those memorials and understand their history for documenting and studying them. Therefore, I think it will be a great achievement of mine if I can see this royal country.

As a Hodophile, I literally have no idea what I’d be doing if I wasn’t travelling. Every time I travel, it encourages me to step outside of my comfort zone and provides me with a new perspective on life. It allows me to uncover and appreciate unexplored natural beauty while also giving me the freedom to live in the moment. In a nutshell, I consider travel to be a way of life. So, I’d like to discuss a country that I’d like to visit.

I have been longing to visit the world’s smallest continent and the largest island, Australia, for more than a year; however, due to the pandemic and the travel restrictions, it’s taking more than a long time to visit the country. Travelling to the land of dreams, Australia, is one of the wishes on my bucket list. With diverse landscapes, photogenic natural spaces, picturesque rain forests, scorching deserts, indigenous culture, Australia is undoubtedly one of the best tourist destinations in the world. The country experiences brilliant sunny and humid summers, frigid winters, and spring most of the time. Travellers across the world are captivated by the laid-back lifestyle of the citizens in this remote continent island. However, most of the country is so barren that life doesn’t exist except in the extreme due to the soaring temperatures.

I’m someone who enjoys wandering about a city’s attractions. Therefore, I’ve prepared my vacation itinerary beforehand. I’ve decided to visit some of the remarkable tourist attractions, such as the Sydney Opera House, the Great Barrier Reef, Kakadu National Park, the Sydney Tower, and the Art Gallery of New South Wales, as well as indulge in all of the adventurous things like skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing, and snowshoeing. One of the main reasons I want to travel to Australia is to visit the world’s most extensive barrier reef system, the Great Barrier Reef. As a professional diver, I’d love to dive in the crystal clear waters to witness the blissful marvel of nature and the colourful marine life, along with viewing the majestic reef.

• Perspective

Meaning: a particular attitude towards or way of regarding something; a point of view. Eg: Everyone in the court had a different perspective about the criminal.

Meaning: One who loves to travel Eg: My best friend is a hodophile and drags me with her whenever she goes.

Meaning: walk or move in a leisurely or aimless way Eg: John found it scary to wander through the jungle.

• Bucket list

Meaning: a number of experiences or achievements that a person hopes to have or accomplish during their lifetime. Eg: Jumping off the cliff is one of the wishes on my bucket list.

Meaning: to influence and dominate by some special charm, art Eg: The blue waters of Maldives captivated me.

To inspire you and help you write your next trip essay—whether it’s an essay about a trip with family or simply a way to remember your best trip ever (so far)—we enlisted the help of Professor Kathleen Boardman, whose decades of teaching have helped many college students learn the fine art of autobiography and life writing. Here’s advice on how to turn a simple “my best trip” essay into a story that will inspire others to explore the world.

Welcome home! Now that you’re back from your trip, you’d like to share it with others in a travel essay. You’re a good writer and a good editor of your work, but you’ve never tried travel writing before. As your potential reader, I have some advice and some requests for you as you write your travel experience essay.

Trip Essays: What to Avoid

Please don’t tell me everything about your trip. I don’t want to know your travel schedule or the names of all the castles or restaurants you visited. I don’t care about the plane trip that got you there (unless, of course, that trip is the story).

I have a friend who, when I return from a trip, never asks me, “How was your trip?” She knows that I would give her a long, rambling answer: “… and then … and then … and then.” So instead, she says, “Tell me about one thing that really stood out for you.” That’s what I’d like you to do in this travel essay you’re writing.

The Power of Compelling Scenes

One or two “snapshots” are enough—but make them great. Many good writers jump right into the middle of their account with a vivid written “snapshot” of an important scene. Then, having aroused their readers’ interest or curiosity, they fill in the story or background. I think this technique works great for travel writing; at least, I would rather enjoy a vivid snapshot than read through a day-to-day summary of somebody’s travel journal.

Write About a Trip Using Vivid Descriptions

Take your time. Tell a story. So what if you saw things that were “incredible,” did things that were “amazing,” observed actions that you thought “weird”? These words don’t mean anything to me unless you show me, in a story or a vivid description, the experience that made you want to use those adjectives.

I’d like to see the place, the people, or the journey through your eyes, not someone else’s. Please don’t rewrite someone else’s account of visiting the place. Please don’t try to imitate a travel guide or travelogue or someone’s blog or Facebook entry. You are not writing a real travel essay unless you are describing, as clearly and honestly as possible, yourself in the place you visited. What did you see, hear, taste, say? Don’t worry if your “take” on your experience doesn’t match what everyone else says about it. (I’ve already read what THEY have to say.)

The Importance of Self-Editing Your Trip Essay

Don’t give me your first draft to read. Instead, set it aside and then reread it. Reread it again. Where might I need more explanation? What parts of your account are likely to confuse me? (After all, I wasn’t there.) Where might you be wasting my time by repeating or rambling on about something you’ve already told me?

Make me feel, make me laugh, help me learn something. But don’t overdo it: Please don’t preach to me about broadening my horizons or understanding other cultures. Instead, let me in on your feelings, your change of heart and mind, even your fear and uncertainty, as you confronted something you’d never experienced before. If you can, surprise me with something I didn’t know or couldn’t have suspected.

I hope you will take yourself seriously as a traveler and as a writer. Through what—and how—you write about just a small portion of your travel experience, show me that you are an interesting, thoughtful, observant person. I will come back to you, begging for more of your travel essays.

How to write a travel essay

Travel essays and short notes allow you to dive deep into the memories and share your experience with readers. If written well, readers can explore new places without traveling or get inspired to explore new things. The location you have visited may contain many things to discuss: architecture, sightseeing, nature, culture, and much more. How can you tell about it in a short essay? Whether you are planning to write an essay, blog post, or another type of writing – all the tips below will help you craft an appealing paper.

Understand your goals

Before writing a travel essay: 1. Define the main idea you want to stick to in your writing. If you have a specific word limit, you may be unable to cover everything you wish to write about. 2. Check whether the professor asked you to cover specific experiences during your trip or stick to a more descriptive writing style. 3. If you are free of what to write about, make up a list of things you wish to focus on.

Understanding your goals will help you see the big picture and write the text within a limited time. If you were assigned to write an essay about your travel and can’t meet the deadline or have no ideas, you can get punctual help with essay writing from EssayShark .

Write catchy introduction How did your travel start? What were your plans? You can start with a quote about adventure or just begin your story by planning or arriving at the destination place. Focus on several ideas What if you have no solid experience in traveling? Or maybe you haven’t seen anything special to talk about. In fact, even a small town has its own spirit and local sightseeing that, you can tell in your essay. For example, you can discuss local cuisine the weather, and share specific descriptions of the places.

Tell the simple story The main aim of every travel essay is to help the reader wear your shoes and imagine what you have experienced during the trip. Describe your emotions and experience in detail to help the reader feel like they have already visited the place. Avoid listing attractions or telling the traveling process step by step. Share your thoughts, and use creative expressions to keep your natural flow.

Ensure your travel story has a standard format and contains an introduction, main body, and conclusion. Don’t interrupt your writing in the middle of an idea; wrap up everything you have said in a meaningful conclusion.

Wrapping Up In general, you can approach traveling essays from different points of view. Grab the reader’s attention with an exciting intro, add vivid details, and focus on several aspects of your journey to keep them reading. Share your experience in a storytelling manner, and your writing won’t be unnoticed.

Well, I have always wanted to visit Japan. The first images that come to my mind when I think of Japan are those beautiful temples hidden in the hills. They have always fascinated me and I would like to visit them someday. I developed an interest in Japan during my school days. At that time, any product carrying the Made in Japan tag was quite popular in my country. I guess, that is how I started associating quality and reliability with Japan. Of course, you wouldn’t visit a country just because they make amazing gadgets. I was just trying to say that that is how I became interested in Japan. When I was at university, I had some Japanese friends. They were quite friendly and great fun to hang out. And they made me all the more interested in Japan.

The best thing about Japan is probably the fact that it is a combination of the ancient and the new. The Japanese are still very traditional, but that hasn’t prevented them from embracing modernity. They are also known for their hospitality. I am a religious person. Although I am not a practicing Buddhist I am curious about Zen Buddhism. If I get an opportunity to visit Japan, I would like to meet some Zen Buddhists, learn their traditional meditation techniques and lodge at a traditional inn where I can experience Japanese hospitality at its best.

IELTS Cue Card Sample Question – Describe a Country that You Want to Visit

One of the areas where you should focus your time and attention while studying for the IELTS test is the ‘cue card’ component, often known as the IELTS Speaking Part 2 . It is a must that you maximize your time because this component of the test is only two minutes long.

What is the IELTS Cue Card Question?

How to answer this specific question: “describe a country that you want to visit”, sample response 1: , sample response 2:, vocabulary list to answer the question: “describe a country that you want to visit”.

You will be presented with a task card on a specific topic in the second portion of the IELTS Speaking Test . The subject of your speech is written on this card, which is also known as the ‘cue card.’

This section of the IELTS Speaking Test allows you to talk about a topic for a longer period of time. You have one minute to prepare to speak on the cue card’s topic. You will be provided a pencil and paper to take notes with.

After your speech, the examiner might ask you one or two follow-up questions about the same topic. The IELTS Cue Card component takes about 3-4 minutes to complete.

Describe a Country that You Want to Visit

Guidelines to answer this question

You should say:

• What country this is
• How you know about this country
• When you plan to visit this country

And explain why you want to go to this country.

• Think of a country that you have been intending to visit. It could be any country. However, you have to make sure that you have enough knowledge about this country so you would have a lot to discuss and share later on. 
• The moment you have a country in mind, stick to it and start writing down notes. Remember that you have only a minute to prepare. 
• Take notes on what country it is and in which continent it is located. Include how you come to know about the country and the things that make it appealing and interesting to you.
• Remember to mention too when you plan to go there. Bear in mind that you should not write sentences, just keywords and phrases. 
• Employ sophisticated vocabulary. Form complex grammar structures as well. These will help you get a high mark in this part of the test. 
• Write quickly but ensure your handwriting is understandable, by you. The examiner will not mark you based on what and you write on the paper but by how you discuss the topic. 
• From time to time, do take a look at the notes you have written to ensure that you cover everything. It is fine. You do not get deductions if you do so. 

Sample Responses: “Describe a Country that You Want to Visit”

“In my inquisitive mind, I want to see every place on the planet, but I won’t be able to do so because I don’t have an endless supply of money or all the time in the world. So, to put my goals into perspective, I want to visit at least 5 to 6 countries in the next few years, with Switzerland being at the top of my list.

Switzerland is unquestionably one of the most beautiful countries on the planet, and I’m awestruck by the sheer grandeur of the wide-green plains and snow-capped mountains I’ve seen on TV and in publications. One of my schoolmates used to live there with her family, and it was because of her that I became interested in this country. I’ve heard stories of her mountain skiing, fascinating excursions in the countryside, and fabulous cuisines. Despite the fact that they are merely stories and experiences, they piqued my interest in how gorgeous the country would be and how much I would like to explore it.

If all goes according to plan, I’ll be in Switzerland in the middle of next year. My parents have previously heard about my plans, and they are fine with me going with one of my close friends. As a result, I may travel to this country known for its celestial beauty, delectable chocolates, and beautiful watches with Elizabeth, who also wishes to travel to Switzerland with me.

Visiting Switzerland, I suppose, would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me. It will provide fascinating and thrilling adventures while also allowing me to realize my dreams. I’ve also learned and heard a lot about incomparable Swiss timepieces and Swiss people’s punctuality, which I’d like to see for myself. While in Switzerland, I’d like to take in the gorgeous scenery, culture, gastronomy, and other sights that the country has to offer.”

Follow-up Question 1:

Who do you prefer to go with when traveling, family or friends?

“It depends. I think that there are places where I want to be with my family whereas there are also places where I would prefer to be with my friends instead. Since my parents are devoted Christians and have strong religious beliefs, let’s say I would go to Israel or The Vatican, I would prefer to be with them.

On the other hand, if I want to go to Africa and explore the wildlife there, I would rather be with my friends.”

Follow-up Question 2:

Lots of countries now do not accept unvaccinated travelers, do you think that’s fair? 

“Yes, I think it’s only fair. I mean if you think allowing unvaccinated travelers into your country is a threat, because of the current situation, then it is up to that country’s prerogative who to allow and who not to allow entrance. “  

“Life drives us to areas we don’t want to go, whether we like it or not. Nevertheless, there are instances when we simply feel compelled to visit a specific location/country in order to improve our awareness, understanding, and respect for a country and its culture about which we already have a decent understanding. When you hear about a nation like Japan from your father so often as a child, you know it’s worth seeing at least once in your life. I intend to visit this wonderful country next year. 

Japan is an East Asian country. This lovely country is located in the Pacific Ocean, off the eastern coast of the Asian continent. So, why would I want to go to Japan? I could definitely come up with thousands of answers to answer the question, such as how Japan is probably one of the most exceptional countries in the world because of its modern comfort, rich history, and culture is a perfect blend, but that doesn’t exactly capture how one should perceive Japan as a country. I could mention hundreds of words describing the delectable Japanese cuisines, but it would still fall short of portraying Japan in its real light. We can claim that Japan has some of the most beautiful buildings because of Mount Fuji, but it doesn’t begin to describe what Japan has to give the rest of the world. We could also claim that Japan is undoubtedly the world’s most resilient country because it withstood the most awful and destructive repercussions of WWII, but that still doesn’t tell much about this amazing country. Japan arguably has the world’s most beautiful cherry blossoms.

I hope to be able to visit this country next year, as it is somewhere I’ve always wanted to go. I’ve never been to a snowy country before so this is a fantastic chance for me.”

What climate do you prefer, tropical or temperate? Why? 

Response: “ I think that having a tropical and temperate climate has its advantages and disadvantages. Living in a tropical country does not need a lot of adjustments when it comes to the change in climate in a year because the temperature is pretty much the same. Living in a temperate climate on the other hand is completely different. The variations in temperature are drastic and people need a lot of adjustments to adapt.”

Talk About Your Favorite Country: IELTS Speaking (Cue Card With Example Answer)

In part two of your IELTS Speaking test, you might be asked to talk about your favorite country. The cue card will probably read: “Describe your favorite country.” And it will give you some suggestions on what to say.

Let’s look at how to answer this question for a band-seven score. Below, you can also read a good example answer ( go straight to the answer here ).  

Which Country to Choose

For a question like this, it’s best to talk about a country you’ve already been to. This is because you can quickly remember your time there and talk about that.

However, you might want to talk about a country that you haven’t been to, but would like to visit. Or you could choose a country you love because of its movies, art, culture, weather, or food.  

Of course, you can also talk about your own country, which is probably the simplest option of all.  

In part two of IELTS Speaking, always choose the option that’s easiest to talk about.  

What You Can Say

When you’ve chosen a country, here are some things you can talk about:

• The culture
• The weather
• What this country is famous for  
• Why it’s a perfect place for vacation
• Sights to see there
• Things to do there
• Why it’s the perfect place to live
• Cost of living
• Quality of life
• Your experience when you visited that country
• Some interesting experiences you had there
• Why you want to visit that country
• How often you go there
• How long you’ve lived there
• Anything else that comes to mind

Tell a Story

In part two, you should always try to tell a short story. With a simple story, you can:

• Keep speaking easily for 30 seconds or more
• Show that you can use good past tenses (past simple, past continuous, past perfect…)

It’s easy to tell a story about a country because you can simply remember when you visited that country and say what you did there.   So before your IELTS test, prepare a few stories about countries you’ve visited.  

You can then use these stories for lots of different questions. For example, you can use your country story for questions about vacations, adventures, travel, interesting experiences, food, family, friends, and more.  

Focus on Vocabulary

In part two of your IELTS Speaking test, you can get a band-7 score by:

• Talking for two minutes without hesitation
• Using some interesting, less common vocabulary
• Not making too many mistakes

One great way to prepare interesting vocabulary is to memorize word groups .  

A word group is a collection of interesting words, phrases, and idioms that describe one aspect of a place, person, activity, or thing.

For example, you might prepare a ‘busy place’ word group that includes words like: ‘bustling, hectic, crowded, industrious, fast pace of life, as busy as a bee…’ and more.

You can then use this same ‘busy place’ word group to answer many different questions about places. For example:

• Describe your favorite city
• Describe your hometown
• Describe a place you like to visit
• Describe a vacation you went on  
• Describe a city you’d like to live in
• And many more part-two questions

So for this ‘favorite country’ question, it’s a good idea to prepare a word group now that could describe a country you like.  

In the example answer below, you’ll see a ‘natural place’ word group in use.

One of the fastest and surest ways to memorize English vocabulary is to use a good flashcard app like Anki App.

Now, let’s look at a good example answer…

Favorite Country Cue Card

Describe your favorite country.

You should say:

• What this country it is
• If you’ve visited this country before  
• What this country is known for

And say why this is your favorite country.

I’m going to talk about Switzerland, which is a stunningly beautiful country in the center of Europe. I love Switzerland because it has an abundance of natural beauty . Most of the country is covered by mountainous terrain and there’s so much magnificent scenery with endless  spectacular views to enjoy. The whole country is full of impressive mountains and glistening lakes .  

I’ve only visited Switzerland once in my life, but I will always remember that vacation. I went on a camping trip there with my family about seven years ago. I remember driving through the picturesque mountains, soaking up the incredible views . It was a real escape into the great outdoors .  

We stayed at many campsites beside the quiet waters of beautiful lakes. It was wonderful to wake up in the morning to the sound of birdsong . I recall we stayed in one idyllic natural spot for many days, right next to the water. I remember sitting outside our tent in the morning, enjoying a cup of tea and looking at a breathtaking view of a massive snowcapped mountain .  

We went for many hikes through forests and meadows , enjoying the fresh air, scents of the forest, and beautiful fields of wildflowers . There were many cows with little bells around their necks and we could always hear the bells ringing gently.  

I think Switzerland is a fantastic place to live because it’s very safe there. To be honest, Switzerland is a little expensive and the food isn’t the best food in Europe. But when you’re there, it’s really easy to drive to neighboring countries like Italy, France, or Germany because Switzerland is right in the middle of Europe and it’s a very small country. So that’s another reason why I like it.

Do you think it’s hard to give a great answer like this one?  

Don’t worry. When you’ve memorized a few good word groups, you’ll be amazed at how easily you can give a fantastic answer.

Try to answer this question now yourself.

First, choose a country you can talk about easily (preferably a country you’ve visited before).  

Next, choose a word group you can use to describe that country. You could think of your own word group or use a word group from this site (see many choices for ‘place’ word groups here ).

Finally, prepare a story about that country.

Now it’s time to answer the question…

Set up the recorder on your phone and ask yourself to talk about your favorite country.

Prepare your ideas for one minute, then start talking. Try to talk for two minutes without hesitation.

When you’ve finished, listen to your recording, and see if you can improve it with more interesting vocabulary.

Keep repeating this process. This is a wonderful way to get ready for part two of your IELTS Speaking test.

Personal Essay Example: Reasons Why I Want to Visit Japan

Where is one place in the world you would like to visit? Explain why you would want to visit this place, and what you would want to do or see once you arrive. Include specific details and examples in your response.

If I could visit any place in the world, it would be Japan. Many people, such as my friends, relatives, and reviews, told me how amazing Japan is. Japan is one of the most attractive places for tourists, millions of people each year travel there to try its exotic and traditional food. Another reason why is because of the beautiful sakura flowers that only bloom once a year. Japan also has one of the most unique hotels, one being a capsule hotel, like the name says you live in a capsule.

Japan is known for their natural beauty. There are many mountains, waterfalls, and forests, and most importantly, cherry blossoms. Like I said in my manifesto, I like adventuring to new places and especially in mother nature. As my parents say, I’m quite the photographer so, whenever I go to new places, I can add some photos to my collection and see many astonishing views. One of my wishes is that I get a Fujifilm X-T4, it is a camera that specializes in photography, and I want to capture almost everything that I do. If I go to Japan during April, I would definitely go to Chidorigafuchi. Chidorigafuchi is a seven hundred meters long river that leads to the Imperial Palace. The river is surrounded by cherry blossoms and you can take a boat/canoe ride down the river. Chidorigafuchi is one of the most popular places in Japan for viewing cherry blossoms, and during April, cherry blossoms bloom and shine at their brightest. Cherry Blossoms are one of my favourite types of plants because of how beautiful they are and how rare they are. Remember that this is a once-in-a-year time and the cherry blossoms die fast so if you get to see them, you are very lucky! The next place I would go to is Mount Fuji. Mount Fuji is a popular tourist attraction in Japan that a lot of people recognize. It is the thirty-fifth tallest mountain in the world and rises up to 12,388 feet, so I want to see it myself. When I’m at Mt. Fuji, I want to see around because there are five lakes and many temples that surround Mt. Fuji. There is also a lot of history, so I want to learn about it. An example is that Mt. Fuji was known as a sacred kami or spirit in the Shinto religion. The last place I would like to go is to a hot spring. Hot springs are very common because of all the volcanoes Japan has. Hot springs are very relaxing and are located in traditional Japanese inns.

Japan has one of the most unique and exotic foods in the world, that’s why I want to try their foods. Fun fact, 30% of the world's 7 Eleven’s are in Japan and it is pretty common to see a convenience store in every street. So whenever you need a cheap meal such as an egg sandwich, you can head over to 7 Eleven or Family Mart. Many shops in Japan have a traditional food called bento box. All families have a different recipe and they could be eaten for any meal, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and sometimes dessert. One exotic food that I want to try is omurice from Yukimura Motokichi. He works at Kichi Kichi and is most popular for his omurice. He entertains everyone with his cooking tricks, jokes, and makes a very memorable time for everyone. Omurice is a dish that contains fried rice and an omelette, topped off with some ketchup. Another dish I would like to eat is sushi, a traditional dish from Japan and is my favourite food of all time. I like sashimi over the rolls because I think that in sushi, the fish is the most important part of the combination. Sushi is a traditional food for the Japanese people and whenever you eat sushi in Japan, it may be pricey, but believe me, it tastes like heaven. Another food I would like to try is ramen. I love noodles and ramen is my favourite type of noodle dish. I would take tonkatsu ramen because ramen is about broth and tonkatsu ramen has pork bone broth. And for dessert, I would take mochi. Mochi has a wide range of flavours but I would take the green tea matcha because I drink green tea almost every day and it is my favourite type of tea. Unique food that is only grown in Japan is square or cube watermelons. They are essentially ornamental and are very expensive. They are around two hundred and fifty dollars and I want to see what’s so special about them. Another food I would like to try is street food. Every countries’ street food is unique but Japan’s stand out to me. There are more than two thousand items to try and street food doesn’t take very long.

There are a lot of tourist attractions in Japan and there is a lot I like to go to. I really want to go to Japan’s Disney World. I am a big fan of theme parks and I heard that Disney World is a very fun place to go to. So far, have been to Canada’s Wonderland and Universal and both turned out to be super fun. I really like Disney movies and now that they own Marvel or the Avengers, I really want to check out what they built for the Avengers. I also want to visit the Great Buddha of Kamakura. It is a colossal representation of Amida Buddha and is one of the most celebrated Buddhist figures. My family are Buddhists so it is nice to go here. Last but not least, I want to go to Hokkaido. Hokkaido is an island located north of Japan, taking up twenty percent of Japan’s mass and five percent of its population. Hokkaido is one of the most popular destinations for travelers in Japan. Boasting unspoiled natural sights, festivals, historical landmarks, coastline villages and the freshest seafood in the country, the island is sure to impress even the most seasoned traveler.

My third reason why I want to go to Japan is because of their unique hotels, one is a capsule hotel. Capsule hotels were also known as pod hotels are a type of hotel that has been invented in Japan. The room/capsule you get is roughly the length and width of a single bed and has the height for a person to crawl in and sit/sleep on the bed. The amenities you get would be the same as any other hotel, a/c, power sockets, slippers, etc. Amenities outside the capsule, you are given toilets, showers, Wi-Fi, dining rooms, and sometimes a cafeteria. It is around ¥2000 to ¥4000, which is 18 to 37 Canadian dollars, which is cheaper than most hotels. Once you get there, your clothing and footwear are swapped to Japanese clothing, yukata and slippers. Another unique hotel from Japan is bus and train hotels. Bus and train hotels both have the size of a business classroom in an airplane. They have comfortable reclining chairs that can turn into a bed. You are also given as many amenities as a hotel would.                  

In conclusion, I would like to visit Japan because I find that their natural beauty is really beautiful and their foods are very flavorsome. Japan, in general, is unique because I find that the culture, art, technology, etc is very different from other countries. I think that no other country can offer the same characteristics Japan has.

How to Write an Essay about a Country

In this tutorial, you will learn how to write an essay about any country.

This method will work for a paper you have to write for Sociology, Economics, a History class, or for any other discipline you can imagine.

The biggest challenge when writing an essay is coming up with material.

And the easiest way to keep your ideas flowing is to break your topic into subtopics.

Let’s see how this works.

Our subject is a country. Any country.

How would we go about breaking the idea of a country into aspects or parts?

What are some of the parts a country may have?

The easiest way to break up a topic is to use the Power of Three!

And which three aspects are relevant to any country? Which three things does any country have?

• Any country has a political aspect. Politics is all about the government. It answers the question, “What are the political forces and relationships among them?”
• Any country has a social aspect. This part of the paper will answer the question, “How do people live in this country?” The social aspect is about the people of the country.
• “What are the major economic forces in this country”
• “How do they shape the country?”
• “Is the country going through an economic hardship?”

These are three wonderful ways to discuss and to structure an essay about a country.

What else can we do?

We can talk about a country in terms of the past, the present, and the future. Let’s see what this looks like.

• The past. This section will answer the question, “How was this country in the past?”
• The present. This section will the answer the question, “How is the country doing today?”
• The future. This part will answer the question, “What can be predicted about this country?”

Again, this is a wonderful way to discuss any country.

You can combine these different aspects to form a longer essay.

In fact, you can write as long an essay as you want.

Let’s say we’re writing about a country in terms of the past, the present and the future. What could we write about in each section?

We are already using the Power of Three to create the main structure. Now we can use the Power of Three to break up each of the sections into three subsections.

• And we can talk about the political, social ,and economic aspects in section 1 about the past. In other words, how was this country in the past politically, socially, and economically?
• In the next section, we discuss how this country fares in the present politically, socially, and economically.
• And finally, what can be predicted about this country politically, socially, and economically?

Hope this makes sense.

You can actually do this differently. You can have three sections that are devoted to politics, society, and economics.

You can still use the Power of Three, and you can use it in reverse.

• In the first section , you would talk about the past, the present, and the future of this country in terms of politics.
• In the next section , you would talk about the society in the past, in the present, and in the future.
• And in the final section , you would talk about the past, the present and the future of this country’s economy.

Note that countries have a lot more different aspects to them. For example, you can discuss any country in terms of:

• Ethnic diversity

You can use any of these aspects. Just don’t forget to use the Power of Three to make your life easier 🙂

I’d like to [share] with you a country I would like to visit called the Maldives . I’ve never been there before, so it’d be a good chance to discover a new country and a totally new culture. It has [balmy weather] which is very strange for me because most countries I’ve visited before, like the UK, have terrible cold weather, while / whereas  in Egypt it’s always hot. Therefore, it would be a good chance to experience something new because of it’s got a  moderate climate [all throughout the year] . In addition to that, it would be a very romantic [group of islands] , so that’s why I would like to spend a lovely and [touristy] time with my wife there. What’s more, it really has a beautiful beaches and water. I saw a lot of pictures of the Maldives and the water is [crystal clear] , and as I’m a person who’s a big fan of swimming and having a dip in the sea, it would be the perfect place to go on holiday. Cue Card # 17: A place/country you would like to visit

You should say:

• where the place/country is
• when you plan to visit the place/country
• how you know about this place/country

and explain why you would like to visit this place/country.

[You will have to talk about the topic for one to two minutes. You have one minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.]

Model Answer:

Life takes us to places whether we like to go to those places or not. But, sometimes, we just feel like we want to visit a particular place/country because we want to deepen our appreciation, understanding and respect for a particular country and its culture about which we already have some good knowledge about. You know, a country like Japan is worth visiting at least once in a lifetime when you hear about it so many times from your father from your childhood. I plan to visit this great country next year so that I can enjoy the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Killing two birds with one stone, so to speak.

Japan is a country in East Asia. Located in the Pacific Ocean, this beautiful country lies off the eastern coast of the Asian continent.

So, why would I visit Japan? I could probably give dozens of reasons to answer the question and saying things like Japan is one of the most unique countries in the world because of its modern comfort, rich history and culture in a perfect mix, but that will not quite say how one should really view Japan as a country. I could also say thousands of words describing the amazing Japanese foods, but still, it wouldn’t portray Japan in its true image. Being home to the incredible Mount Fuji, we can say that Japan has some of the most marvellous-looking architecture, but it still wouldn’t quite say what Japan really has to offer to the world. We could also say that Japan probably is the most resilient country in the world because it survived the most horrific and devastating effects of 2nd world war, but still, it wouldn’t say what this great country is exactly all about – a country that arguably offers the most beautiful cherry blossoms in the world.

So, what exactly is Japan all about which arguably offers the most beautiful cherry blossoms in the world? Well… to answer, just when we think that we know all about this beautiful and super, super clean country, we are mesmerized with yet another bigger surprise. That’s Japan!

I wish I would be able to visit this country next year where I have always wanted to be. I have never been to an Olympic event before and it is a great opportunity for me that the next Olympics will be hosted by a country that is on the top of my must-visit country list.

The Country I would Like to Visit Essay

One of the places that amazes me in this universe is the Netherlands. The history and cultural context of the Dutch people fascinates me because this is a society that had to reclaim an entire country from its swampy status to its present flat territory known as Holland today.

The Netherlands is an exciting country because of the freedom that its residents get to enjoy. One can do whatever they like in this nation as long as it does not interfere with any other person’s freedoms and rights enshrined in the constitution. The city of Amsterdam is reputable as a global entertainment hotspot and I would be thrilled to experience the night life that comes with it. The Dutch people are also known to be among the friendliest people in the world, another attraction that would take me to Holland because I am a social being.

It would be thrilling to take a tour in a boat in the waters of the vast water bodies surrounding the various cities in this country. I would cherish every moment that I get to see the famed lighthouses that are scattered across the country’s various harbors. My visit to the Netherlands would not be complete without thronging one of the numerous cafes that have some of the most sumptuous cakes which people get to enjoy as they relax. I believe touring all over the Dutch country would give me the ultimate exposure that would open up my mind and my perception towards different issues and items around the world. I hope my dream of visiting Holland will one day come true because this remains to be the only country that I would give anything to be able to visit, even if it were for a few days.

You have the opportunity to visit a foreign country for two weeks. Which country would you like to visit? Use specific reasons and details to explain your choice.

A lot of people love to travel to new countries or regions. I like travelling, and if I can travel overseas for two weeks, I would like to visit China, located in the northern part of Asia. The following essay will explain in detail why I choose China as my primary destination.

To begin with, it is a fact that China is well known for its civilisation, and I must visit many historical places. Firstly, I would visit the Great Wall of China, which is included in the Seven Wonders of the World. It was the longest wall ever made by humans, and it was said that astronauts could see the wall with the naked eye from the shuttle spaceship. Secondly, I will visit Tian An Men Square, located in the capital city of China or Beijing. The square is a palace where most of the emperors of China lived until the communist party took over the country in 1960. These ancient buildings contain a lot of historical value; therefore, I must visit these places.

Besides the historical places, there are other things that visitors could do in China. There are a lot of beautiful landscapes in the country, such as mountains, hills and valleys, which are well known for their purity and originality. And then, China is well known for its unique and exotic animal, Panda. Panda is a part of the bear family, but the animal has a unique colour and can only be found in China. Furthermore, the country is also famous for its cuisine. There are various types of food in China, from spicy ones to extreme types such as cockroaches or spiders. Therefore, there are many activities that tourists can do while they visit the country.

In conclusion, if I could visit a new country for fourteen days, I would call it China. There are many things that visitors could do there, from visiting the historical places, seeing the unique animal and enjoying some of the beautiful scenery places.

I like to travel, and in my opinion, this enhances my experiences and broadens my horizon. Travelling is an excellent opportunity to meet new people, gain more knowledge and experience, and learn new customs and traditions. I did not travel a lot yet, but I am sure I will have a chance to do it. So, if I could visit a foreign country, I would visit Egypt. It is a great and fascinating country with a marvellous history. In the following paragraphs, I will give some reasons to support my choice.

First of all, I have always dreamed of visiting different Egyptian pyramids. My aunt visited Egypt a few years ago. She was very excited after that trip and said she would return there one more time at any cost. She said that Egypt greatly impressed her with its glorious pyramids and ancient buildings. Second, I think that in that country, one can touch history, feel the hard breath of workers building a pyramid under the parching sun, and see the chain of camels walking in the desert with huge trunks full of presents for Cleopatra on their humps. Finally, I want to see an actual dessert and ride the camel. All my friends who rode the camel say it was an unforgettable experience.

I believe I will have a chance to visit this beautiful country someday. Unfortunately, I have plenty of plans and things to do, so I am afraid I will not be able to travel for the next two years. I want to finish my education and then find a job, which is more important than travelling. My husband wants to visit this country too, and we made an agreement to make our trip to Egypt on our fifth anniversary, which is in two years.

In conclusion, I want to add that I will visit Australia after my trip to Egypt. This country is the second one on my list of the most wanted to see.

When It Comes to TikTok, the World’s Democracies Have Played the Sucker for Far Too Long

China’s violations of human rights and the basic norms of internet freedom are blatant and obvious. This month, with little fanfare, the country ordered Apple to block downloads of WhatsApp, Threads and Signal within its borders. It already prevents citizens from connecting to dozens of other providers of information, including this newspaper and Wikipedia, and for years, it has aggressively surveilled journalists and dissidents.

That abysmal track record gives the United States every right to demand that TikTok find a different owner — one not subject to the control of the Chinese state.

Last week, President Biden signed a law that did just that. TikTok’s current owner, ByteDance, has long emphasized that global institutional investors — such as the Carlyle Group, General Atlantic and Susquehanna International Group — have a 60 percent stake in the company, but it is still, at its core, a Chinese company, with headquarters in Beijing and subject in multiple ways to the direction of Chinese officials. This new law, which gives TikTok roughly 270 days to find a new owner, is designed to change that. But more fundamentally, it sends a message to the world: You cannot disregard basic internet norms and expect to be treated just like any other country.

Infrastructure is destiny, and on some level, the continuing struggle to control the internet is a struggle for the future of civilization. We are already very far from the vision of the internet, laid out in the 1970s and 1990s, of a network that would bring the nations and peoples of the world together in harmony. That may have been too idealistic, even then — but today we can still draw a line at mass surveillance and censorship and make it clear that nations that break norms are not entitled to full access to American markets.

Some have argued that TikTok should be left alone to preserve a free and open internet. They argue that to treat China differently would fragment the network. That gets things backward. China, Russia, Iran and other nations have long since broken from any one-internet vision with their blocking, shutdowns and censorship. This month, American policymakers demonstrated that doing so has consequences.

That China violates established norms is not in question. In 2022 more than 60 nations signed a Declaration for the Future of the Internet enumerating basic online principles that all nations should respect (China, Russia and other nations declined to sign): no shutdowns around elections, no surveillance of political opponents, no bans on lawful content. While no country is perfect, only nations like Russia, Iran and Cuba can rival China in their flagrant violations of these principles. Freedom House, which measures internet freedoms, rates Iceland at 94 out of 100, Russia at 21 and China at 9. That alone is grounds to disqualify it from controlling what is now one of the world’s most important social media networks.

If the United States refuses to enforce the principles of internet freedom and openness, it makes a mockery of them. I will be the first to admit that even the United States has at times failed to respect these principles, particularly when it comes to state surveillance. But the answer is not to throw up our hands and declare that there is nothing to be done.

ByteDance, for its part, maintains that it is not subject to control by the Chinese government. The weight of the evidence suggests otherwise: The Chinese state owns a golden share in the company, the firm is based in China, and studies suggest that the government shapes TikTok content in accordance with party preferences. ByteDance has said it has no plans to sell TikTok, but that may be merely a means of driving up the price. What the company now has is a prime opportunity to prove its independence once and for all: by selling TikTok and taking the money.

It is true that only a few American companies — such as Oracle, Microsoft and Meta — have the money to buy TikTok, and I’ll admit that should Meta or Google acquire it, that company would have a dangerous amount of control over one of its greatest competitors. But that need not be the future of TikTok. Its current investors could partner with individuals, such as the Canadian investor and businessman Kevin O’Leary, to turn it “into an American company,” as he has said he wants to do. TikTok could even be run as a nonprofit and perhaps begin a move toward a less toxic business model.

These are radical steps, to be sure. But they are not without precedent. The new TikTok law is similar to the longstanding law that originally barred foreign citizens and corporations from owning U.S. radio and television stations. That law, enacted in the 1930s, might seem quaint today, but during the propaganda wars of the 20th century, control over radio stations was nothing to joke about. No one doubts that control over radio broadcasting was essential during World War II; there is no reason to pretend that social media has any less political salience in our times.

TikTok is already banned in a handful of other countries, including India, and on government phones in Australia, Canada and most of Europe. But it is important that other democratic nations — particularly in Europe — take seriously the dangers of Chinese control over their vital communications platforms. While justifiably concerned about the privacy practices of American tech platforms, they can’t ignore the question of who owns TikTok. The democracies of the world have played the sucker for far too long.

Morgan Wallen closed out the 2024 Stagecoach Sunday night with a hits-filled set that included guest appearances by Post Malone, Eric Church, Hardy, Bailey Zimmerman, and Ernest.

It was the Post Malone duet that drew the most buzz, as the twosome debuted their new song “I Had Some Help.” Ahead of the festival, Malone — who performed a covers-and-guests-filled Stagecoach set under the moniker Posty Goes Country — teased his forthcoming collaboration with Wallen. The first snippet arrived in December, with another preview coming in hot on the eve of Stagecoach’s opening night.

“They say teamwork makes the dream work,” Malone wrote in the caption of a TikTok teasing the song. He tagged Wallen, hinting at a potential Stagecoach link-up. The quote refers to the lyrics featured in what sounds like an upbeat country chorus on the song, which fans have been referring to as “ I Had Some Help .”
