Report to:  Field supervisor who then reports to the Study Coordinator

Main role:  Working together with Researchers, Field Supervisors, Study Coordinator, and Investigators to collect data and ensure successful implementation of the study.

•   Perform field data collection and management activities including completing interviews.

•   Correctly enter all interview information in the software using the provided gadgets

•    Ensure safe custody of both manual and digital data collected and follow all quality checks provided

•   Conduct timely follow-up of study participants

•    Provide the study team with daily updates on data collection and participate in the development of daily field report

•   Prepare data collection forms, devices for data collection, supplies and equipment

•   Ensuring consistency of participant identification numbers (PIDs) for all data and labels

•    Perform any other duties relevant to this position as may be assigned from time to time through the field supervisor

•   Adhere to COVID19 infection prevention and control measures as articulated in the study’s

COVID19 risk mitigation plan and as guided by Ministry of Health.

Minimum qualifications and experience

•    Must possess a bachelor’s degree or diploma, from a recognized higher institution of learning.

•    Worked in at least one research health study/project as a research assistant within the past 3 years.

•    Applicants should have demonstrated experience with collecting health related data using tablets/phones with software such Open Data Kit.

•   Experience in collecting data using quantitative or/and qualitative research methods

•    Possession of a Certificate in Good Clinical Practice or/and Human Subjects Protection is an added advantage.

•   Good oral and written communication skills

•   Ability to work well in a team

•   Willingness to work in fast-paced and occasionally demanding environment

•   Ability to fluently speak Luganda, Lusoga or Lumasaba

Duration:  This appointment is valid for the period of data collection and shall be automatically terminated

Note:  Recruitment of Research Assistants will be based on the above-mentioned study regions. Candidates should indicate their region of interest and language as they apply for this position. UCL - Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health

The mission of the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health is to improve the health and well-being of children, and the adults they will become, through world-class research, education and public engagement. The UCL GOS ICH, together with its clinical partner Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, forms the largest concentration of children’s health research outside North America. GOS ICH’s activities include active engagement with children and families, to ensure that our work is relevant and appropriate to their needs. GOS ICH generates the funding for our research by setting out our proposals in high quality applications to public, charitable and industrial funding bodies and disseminates the results of our research by publication in the medical and scientific literature, to clinicians, policy makers and the wider public. The Institute offers world-class education and training across a wide range of teaching and life learning programmes which address the needs of students and professional groups who are interested in and undertaking work relevant to child health.

About the role

This pre-doctoral position is designed to build capacity in Global child health services research and to provide a talented and committed individual with research training and the opportunity to develop a competitive PhD application of their own on an area of interest within the broad program of work of the Neotree project. The post holder will be supported by NIHR Global Health Professor Dr Heys and the Neotree team. Key duties and responsibilities include the following: • Undertake any necessary training to support their development in qualitative and quantitative research. • Undertake a piece of secondary analysis on Neotree data (quantitative or qualitative) that could provide preliminary or informative data for a PhD application. • Develop skills for grant and research proposal writing and contribute to funding applications. • Work with the Neotree team based at UCL and overseas to support with research management and communication. • Suppor t the research team with teaching and training at UCL. This post is funded for 1 year in the first instance.

The post holder should have a bachelor’s and master’s degree or equivalent skills in a relevant domain, such as population health sciences, epidemiology, health informatics etc. A background in health or health services research and prior experience of working in a multi-disciplinary environment is desirable. This position will work within the Waisman Center University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD. The mission of the UCEDD is to support the full inclusion and self-determination of people with developmental disabilities and their families through: development of personnel qualified to provide services in the health, education and social service systems; provision of services, technical assistance and the dissemination of information; and the contribution of new knowledge about the causes and prevention of developmental disabilities, the impact of disabilities on individuals and families, and the efficacy of assessment, intervention and support methods. The Administrative Assistant II will provide complex administrative, technology and fiscal support to the UCEDD Director, UCEDD Associate Director, Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) Director, UCEDD core function coordinators, project leads and professional staff.

Responsibilities:

• 25% Schedules logistics and secures resources for meetings, conferences, travel, and work unit operations
• 5% Serves as a first point of contact for individuals and groups, provides basic organizational information via phone, in person and through other communication mediums, and routes more complex inquiries to the appropriate entities
• 15% Collects, analyzes, and prepares various communication materials from established sources utilizing technology mediums
• 15% Sends, receives, copies, and distributes communications to the appropriate entities according to established policies and procedures under general supervision
• 20% Maintains established methods and organizational systems directed at the maintenance of electronic/physical records related to work operations according to established policies and procedures
• 10% Provide fiscal support to the UCEDD by monitoring accounts, tracking spreadsheets, processing financial transactions, and related work
• 10% Provide technology setup and support for events that contribute to the core functions of UCEDD, including events for training, conducting research, sharing evidence and best practices, and demonstrating model services

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will have the following required skills and experiences, and describe each of these areas in their cover letter and application materials: - One year of professional experience working in an administrative and/or financial support role. - Competency in setting up and managing participation in small and large groups through web platforms such as Zoom, WebEx, and Teams. - Excellent computer skills, including experience with word processing, creating and maintaining spreadsheets and databases and proficiency with email [e.g., Outlook], internet applications and Microsoft Office Suite. - Demonstrated understanding of privacy rules, confidentiality and professional discretion. - Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, accuracy and judgement. - Ability to multitask and work independently with minimal supervision; demonstrated independent decision-making skills. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Demonstrated ability to work as a team member, establish and maintain relationships with management, staff, students, professional partners and outside vendors. - Knowledge of inventory, ordering and bookkeeping concepts and procedures. Well-qualified candidates will also have the following preferred skills and experience, and describe each of these in their cover letter and application materials: - Ability to function in a fast-paced, stimulating, and challenging office environment, including the ability to organize, prioritize, and complete a variety of tasks and projects in a complete, accurate, timely, and independent matter. - Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate with all persons with a wide range of abilities and backgrounds (e.g., general public, students, staff, collaborating partners, etc.) - Ability to support staff through technology setup and organizing/running events and meetings both virtual and in-person.

Work Schedule:

Office hours are 7:45am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday. Work schedule will be determined upon hire.

Full or Part Time: 50% - 100% It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Additional Information:

A Criminal Background Check will be performed. Must complete HIPAA and receive certification within the first 5 days of employment and annually thereafter. Reporting requirements must be completed in a timely manner, including but not limited to effort reporting and outside activities reporting.
